Forspoken

Ah, for some reason I was remembering Gen 3 speeds topping out at 1.5 GB/s instead of 3.5GB/s.

If they got rid of the animated transition when loading a game it would go further than updating to 1.1, probably. In robbiekhan's video that transition looked like a fixed animation rather than hiding loading. Maybe it was put there for the PS5's sake.
Regardless of how fast you can put data into RAM---your CPU and GPU still have to take some amount of time to use that data to build the game world and rendering pipeline. So, even with the very best PCI-e 4.0 SSD, top end CPU and GPU and RAM----there would have to be some sort of transitional screen.

*watching robbiekhan load into the game in that video, was pretty incredible. I wasn't ready for how quickly it became playable!

To be fair the character looks like a teenager and that is how teenagers tend to talk.
That is painting a broad brush. Maybe I'm just getting old, but I never talked like that when I was a teenager. Neither did the people I hung out with. Or maybe it's because we were more intelligent than the average teen...

Your parents didn’t talk like teen you when they were teens either. How kids and teens talk changes every generation, sometimes even every few years. It’s a completely different dialect than any of us used as teens. No idea if this game is how modern teens talk though.

If this is representative of that, and it very well could be will be the main reason I likely won't play it. I see this sort of talking way too much in media and it's really weird that for some reason this sort of talking is the norm now.

Watch any movie from the last 5 years or so where a "teen" is talking to their parent and that's how Forspoken's main character is talking which wouldn't have been that terrible had the writing been good and the actual story not be so damn cliche.

I'm not sure who would want a dumb teen as a hero anyway. I loathed child protagonists even when I was a kid.

Wow I can't believe Square Enix made a game with a cliche story and bad voice acting, who could've seen that coming? Seems like the performance is ass for a mediocre looking game.

I doubt I’ll even pick this up from the bargain bin.

Good thing we have much to look forward to in the coming couple months!

Uhh what? I can't read that.
time to upgrade your account.

What a horrid youtube narration/host.. lol

Besides that, who cares? Keep it soapbox free plz sir
thats nice.
apparently they do. thats why i linked to soapbox, guy...

edit: actually, i might try the demo. if its got a NG vibe like mentioned below...

I don't think it's that bad. At least based on the demo. I found combat to be fun and I like having a variety of abilities and attacks. It has a little bit of a Ninja Gaiden vibe with the slightly sped up combat.
If the price drops a bit, I can see myself buying it as something to play during the summer. I came in with low expectations and it outperformed them easily.

VA isn’t that bad, at least based on the demo. Demo performance is fine too, it’s not the best looking game in the world but there seems to be a lot going on in battles.

Nah I'm good, people on here have a little too much brain damage. I have enough of my own to contend with.

The game was free back in July/August 2022 if you bought an RX 6600, came with Saints Row and Forspoken, Forspoken was delayed a lot and I just got my game key today! never thought it would be a $70 game and $49 for Saints Row, being PS5 games the pricing does not fall to rock bottom, Sony knows how to milk console players for long time.

games with chatty protagonists always turn me off...one of the main reasons I never picked up Biomutant...Forspoken's main protagonist doesn't seem terrible but it's her companion who is really annoying...I'm really looking forward to Atomic Heart but it's another game which might be too chatty...I don't need to have a play-by-play broadcast of the game I'm currently playing

I mentioned how annoying the protagonist was when I checked out the PS5 demo. Now that I've played the actual game it's 10x worst. The first 2 hours is a massive cringe-fest.

If you didn’t like the demo why did you buy it?

Or maybe you're looking back with rose tinted glasses. But yeah, plenty of kids talk like that. The main character looks like a 16 year old, which is what I am assuming.

is Frey meant to be a teenager?...the actress who provided the motion capture for her is 26 years old (Ella Balinska)

Looks like shit for how it runs in the demo. 13700k and 3080ti and cant even hold 60 fps at 1440p. And the demo keeps closing so that sure as hell does not give me any confidence for the full game.

Even in live action movies adults in their 20s often play as teenagers. I'm not interested enough in this game to check the character's age. But she looks 16-17 and sounds the part.

So far it looks "meh". Suppose I may try it some day but I am not even interested enough to try the demo as of now. I'm just checking to see how big of a shitshow this turned out to be, and it looks like it did turn out to be an ugly and unoptimized mess.

I think the problem with a teenage character using annoying teenager speak is the fact that the majority of people playing are not annoying teenagers. There's a reason most games with teenage characters don't use annoying teenager speak; it's annoying and turns off a large amount of the player base. This is especially true if the game isn't some sort of comedy or parody. Most people have a difficult time identifying with an ignorant, uninformed and juvenile protagonist even if said protagonist is an ignorant, uninformed and juvenile teenager.

I watched some streams of this last night.. It doesn't look good. It looks average at best. The only decent looking part is what the combat could be late game - But the progression is so slow that the combat just looks so boring.

And yes, the annoying teenager is fairly annoying, along with the Jarvis sounding AI/Bracelet thing constantly talking as well.

I didn't even really notice the dialogue from the main character. Mainly just the companion stuff, which seemed normal. I feel like I can certainly look past that. The graphics definitely don't look like they need the horsepower they do. The game looks okay, but you shouldn't need a 4090 to crank up the details on it. Visually, it looks a bit like AC Odyssey with shorter view distances. It does generally move faster, though. I found the combat to be very satisfying. Everything else was pretty average but certainly not horrible.

Going to play this today just see if it could run yesterday. Had to get my Blood pressure in check before I gave the game more time.

I like the Story but the gameplay isn't very captivating unless it's full overblown awesome towards the end of the game have 89 minutes in getting pretty close to refund time I'll keep the game though the gameplay seems tacked on unless it's super towards the end which is what good games do. I could refund the game and just pick up Hogwarts Legacy or Wild Hearts instead in a few weeks.

Preorder cloak 2 hours cut scenes don't worry Death Stranding's Cut scenes are much longer.
Screenshot is a plant attacking enemies with Rocks I guess. These are the first enemies out of one of the main Cities.
Cloak looks like it's from Destiny or something doesn't really fit not sure if I can finish the game with it.

Breathtaking but I mean they could of done away with the sound effect for the running it gets annoying like Mad Kazoomas shoes.

I don't disagree. But it does fit the character. I think I would be hard pressed to have a teenage character end up being one of my favorite characters even if the game was otherwise good. But I also don't mind games making their characters act like they should. Variety is also nice.

I haven't played it, but all video and screen shots look substantially worse.

Just because the speech might fit the character doesn't mean it's a good idea to do so. For mass audience appeal, making a protagonist an annoying teenage character is a bad idea. The proof is right here in this thread with people finding the protagonist as annoying to deal with. If the game was intended for teenage audiences alone it can work but mass audience appeal disappears and so does revenue and profits. People want and need to resonate with the protagonist in a story driven game or else the experience isn't enjoyable.

Wow did I choose the wrong mode for this game I choose Story Mode and it's like a 4 hour Story so far.
Plus the Story sucks for the most part the Devs don't even care about the Story.

The beginning is PAINFUL to get through.... Once you get to the open world area it gets better.
