Never mind the embarrassing back story. Way stupid. My 8 or 9 year old PSU had a spark or flash inside, and then a burning smell. :banghead:

I just tested the PSU with a Thermaltake Dr Power II PSU tester. The tester doesn't even light up, and I plugged the PSU into 2 different outlets.

Can a PSU be repaired for less than the cost of replacement? (Not by me, certainly.) Or am I looking at a new modular PSU ~ 800-900 W? What brands are best these days? Is Seasonic still recommended?

So for say 850w modular PSU, what brands do you guys like? Is Seasonic still one of the best?
1. Depends on your budget.
2. Seasonic is still one of the best PSU maker & PSU brand out there.

Did you check if its under warranty? Prob 10 y.
Just found the purchase info. 2010.
Can't go wrong with Seasonic, Corsair, super flower or EVGA
I couldn't decide between the Corsair AX 850 (to exactly replace what I have now) or the Seasonic Focus Plus 850 Platinum, at $25 more for the Corsair. But then I noticed that the Corsair model was only available USED on both Newegg and Amazon. Years ago, I bought stuff used on eBay, but I learned my lesson, so I just ordered the Seasonic model. :)
