I have reached out to biodoc over in the TAAT servers to confirm that we will still have this event. Last I read it was slated for 1/24-1/31. I will post more as I hear back the details.

EDIT: The event will be from 1/26-2/2.

I will be ready for it. I have a 3070ti out for rma and should be back before then and hope to have another card or two to help out with.

I put up a voting post in their forums. biodoc told me he wasn't planning on running it since he got the gist that a lot of their team was still upset from last year. I guess we will see what they vote for and possibly slap something together last minute. Perhaps discuss an alternative in here or in slack in the event they aren't willing.

I think we will and should run this either way with or without them. If they are not gonna join up we can just make it a [H] race.

There are other ways we can have a challenge even if it's just us. Team EVGA have done time zone challenges and who remembers the Chimp challenge from long ago. We as a folding community need to work together to make stuff happen.

I did not partake in the chimp challenges but I remember some of the controversy over it. It rubbed a lot of people wrong because there was this arrogance that everyone had to switch over and contribute under a different name of some sort. When others didn't want to switch. So there was a lot of controversy involved. That sort of thing should never be expected of others.

As far as offering up to other teams, I brought that up as a alternative in our slack channel If team TAAT decides not to continue. However, which teams we would invite is still up in the air because we have lost teams in the past that we used to be somewhat friendly with due to drop of interest in distributed computing in general. We also haven't really had much interaction with EVGA over the last couple years due to our lack of interest in folding. If we end up adding more teams, they certainly would be a top candidate and an old foe I am sure many would love to rekindle...lol.

I saw OcUK had a blip of renewed interest last summer but no idea if they would actually ralley/recruit and partake. That may require a much longer heads up.

Team EVGA is a very strong team. That's where I was folding at before moving here. Maybe if someone knows some folders on oither teams we can reach out to them. Tom's harware would be a good team to compete against.

Do we need to push the dates so it does not interfere with the PrimeGrid challenge running 1/22 - 1/25?

I'd really hate to see the competition end because it is easily one of the best and most fun and I look forward to it. However, if the interest and fun isn't present by the original teams then it's not worth doing. The aforementioned Chimp Challenge is the perfect example of taking something which should be fun and having it go to complete shit. I'm more than happy that that competition is long gone with all the problems it generated.

I rarely participate in anything other than this challenge and the BOINC pentathlon. They're far enough apart and rare enough that the competition is interesting and fun instead of some other challenges which seem like they never end.

Dates aren't final just yet I don't believe. I think the suggestion was to move it back an go the Jan 25th - Feb 1st. However, we don't have the results in from TAAT's team yet. I was giving them 7 days to vote and debate.

Per the voting thread at TAAT, the votes are in favor of their team partaking. We need to decide on dates now. If there is any reason for anything specific, please make it known.

Luckily the most I would need to do is replace the PSU in my server and maybe drop my old RX570 into it and see if I can get it to play nice with the 1050Ti already in it. Not too worried about getting them to play nice together as I've had them run together before (although it wasn't the best if I was also trying to game which isn't an issue on the server) but getting the Polaris card to fold under Linux. The OpenCL software for Polaris on Linux isn't the best and what I was previously using on my main system (which had the RX570 as the only card) isn't available anymore. That was mainly for running the open source AMD drivers which I needed for gaming. The closed source AMDGPUpro drivers might work just fine for folding only. We'll see how it turns out if I manage to become unlazy enough.

So as you can see, we are going to need a rather large boost in participation from the sleeping [H] members and the new recruits here at [H].

I believe it is likely that the recent large uptick in TAAT stats is them in the midst of a separate event they are already running? If so this may give us a good clue as to the PPD we may expect to see from them for this upcoming event.

I also noticed that they are only one position behind us now in overall team rankings and closing fast.

I've suspected that's why some of them are really not into the challenge this year. If the [H] can put out numbers like last year it will push back the overtake date a bit. :D

I was planning to do stats potentially for both teams here.
The stats site seems to end at 10:00 PM PST / 1:00AM EST so that would be a good time to start this on the 26th (1:00AM EST). Obviously users can start before that to some extent but the first points that would show up would be the next update 3 hours after that.

I will try to grab the total output of both teams and make some bar graphs twice daily. I did a bit of practising with that after copying the user points for the day into excel so I think its not too hard.

Basically that will mean the first stats update of the contest will be just after the update at 1:00 PM EST which will be the mid point of the first day.

I am just going to sort on the "points today" column and grab all the stats each day for anyone from either team that generated points on that day which should be the same thing as total points for the day.

Let me know if you have any concerns or objections about this.

Make sure to also grab the team points total at the same time. We've seen oddities between the individual and team stats before. Maybe not so much for daily totals but it has definitely been an issue for individual update numbers.

That's assuming the stats you're grabbing (and where you're grabbing them from) have those numbers. It's not something I've ever looked into.

Glad we are getting more interested. We certainly will need the production.

I'm going to add some more ppd, unfortunately it won't be in time for the challenge.

I setup my sister's 2080. I'm planning on replacing that with a 4070ti. I'm also planning on adding a 4070ti to my system when I get the 4090 under water.

I got un-lazy enough to install a new PSU in my server and put the old RX570 in there with the 1050Ti so there will be a small increase in PPD. That should be it for me as that's all my hardware outside of the retired Q6600s which aren't even in built systems. And no, I'm not putting them to work no matter what. :p I know I've said before that any little bit counts but the Q6600s are too little to be even a little bit anymore.

Adding 2 x 2060's caused my utility bill to skyrocket in Nov-Dec and freaked my landlord out so I hadta cut back. Kept the 2060 Super running for part of Jan but have been totally down except for a few threads of WCG on the Server. I'll fire everything back up for a week on Jan 26th.

1 x 4090 @ 60% power limit is good for ~17M PPD.

:LOL::ROFLMAO:

Reminder this officially kicks off 1:00 AM EST Jan 26 / 10:00 PM PST Jan 25
(Tonight!)

It would seem that several of the members opponent team are hoovering up and not turning in WUs right now. I suspect they will drop them all at kickoff time for a boost out of the gate...

Can you bunker? I guess there is no way to restrict scoring by when a WU is issued versus returned, eh?

I suppose anything is possible but it seems it would be pretty hard to bunker..
The client doesnt let you download extra work as far as i know and while you could pause and enable after start with an almost completed work unit (1 per slot) i dont know of an easy way to do this on larger scale. Maybe vms or similar but sounds like a royal pita

Maybe the drop in production is due to the TAAT members not participating switching over or off.
