Which RTX 4090 card are you planning or consider to get?

No, tariffs and VAT are very different things.

VAT is essentially sales tax.

The way I interpreted what HumanBias was saying (though he can clarify if I read it wrong) is that for "IT products" you pay the normal sales tax, and then you pay a second sales tax on top of that, specifically for tech. Sounds a little nuts to me. Don't get me wrong, I understand the need for governments to raise revenue to support the things they do, but why specifically target tech products, rather than spread it out over the entirety of the market?

That sounds like a recipe for holding your jurisdiction back technologically, which is something no one wants.

What we had under Trump were tariffs against products imported from China as part of trade disputes.

They can have the same effect, essentially government takes a cut, and that results in higher prices for the consumer (unless there are alternatives that are not subject to the tariff, and thus are cheaper) but the intent behind them is very different.

Tariffs happen when something is imported. They are applied specifically as "punishment" against a foreign nation or manufacturer for practices that are not approved of in the country into which things are being imported. They are a way of trying to get the source of the product to change their ways, and show that you are willing to harm them financially if they don't.

In a freely competitive market where there are plenty of alternatives, this shifts consumer demand away from the nation or manufacturer which has had tarriffs placed on them, and to other manufacturers, harming the offending nations business. However, in a market where there are few or no alternatives it can look very much like a sales tax as it drives up prices.

Now, I don't want to make this a political discussion (because that is not allowed in this subforum, we have the soap box section in the subscription only General Mayhem area for that, but I am happy to give you my options either there or offline/ in PM's if you want to discuss). That said, the U.S. has for decades had many legitimate gripes againt China in the realms of forced technology transfers, discriminatory licensing restrictions, state-directed acquisition of U.S. sensitive technology, hacking of U.S. commercial networks, etc. etc. This is one of the very few areas of agreement between the Trump and Biden administrations, as the Biden administration kept them when it entered office.

(I hope pointing out the non-political party aligned nature of this helps keep it out of the "political" category)

And that's all I have to say about this here, as I already have a few "off topic" strikes against me in these forums :p

(I tend to get carried away replying to things I am passionate about)
You pay a single fixed Tax/VAT for mobile/laptops/PC(and equipment)

looks like Newegg bought all the stock in North America lmao. BB is literally no existent for a few weeks.

How much oc people reach on game rock?

It is @1800$

I just got the TUF in and it's obscene in size. It wouldn't even fit in my case with a res installed :p

Thank goodness I'm putting it under water. The pcb is like half the size of the Heatsink.
Not only the size...it is 2,2 KG.
I havn't OC'ed yet (on vacation in Vietnam with the wife) but I get like 63C on cyberPunk 2077 with Ultra settings/Psycho raytracing at stock (No Asus/3rd party GPU software installed).
That is 3C from fan spin stop :D

I have seen the pictures, but I wasn't prepared for how big these things were when I got it. It is comically huge.

Ideally a FE, but realistically I am looking at either a Gigabyte Windforce or an MSI Suprim X which have much better (but not good) availability.

Got the Waterblock installed. Have not gamed on it yet, but ran heaven benchmark for about 30min. Stayed around 43c which is pretty great :)

Did notice the card had some audible coil whine which is a bit annoying. A quick Google search and it seems coil whine is unfortunately a common issue, especially with Asus cards.

BB has decided to take the back seat on 4090s lmao. Its newegg or bust right now. They be dropping almost every week day now.
If you just want any 4090... this is the way. Still waiting on a good drop on my Suprim X.... the H2O version keeps dropping, but I want the Air Version.

I honestly don't really need 4090. BB I got cash back plus bonus 10% back until the 29th of this month. That doubles my cash back lmao and with extra 10% off coupon. I can score one for like 1400 out the door that way. I wanted the red devil 7900xtx for 1049 off amazon with 5% cash back. could never score one after so many tries just was able to get the order in lmao. So basically paid 1050 for it including amazon cash back. Hell of a price for that card. but won't come in until early February it says. lets see if something happens between then at BB. But I have reference 7900xtx no issues, Really wanted the red devil or sapphire in vertical mount but nitro+ are never dropped on Newegg.

Seen so many xfx and red devil drops on amazon and best buy. Nitro+ seems to be only on newegg, but 0 drops by newegg themselves, third party scalpers are there. But not sure if I like paying 1200 for after market 7900xtx.

Red Devil still has hell of a price at 1049. Kinda surprised.

It's crazy that ROG fanatics suffer the price gouging of ASUS.
Yeah, $400 over MSRP and over $300 on most good AIB models for absolutely no real gains? It's nuts. I do love ASUS very high end HDR monitors though, which are arguably high priced, but I absolutely want the HDR Quality eye candy so have little choice there.

The H2O version is... the Air Version is $1719 and I haven't seen it in stock for awhile.
it was there last week. It seems to sell out Keep checking today. they are dropping lot of MSI models. The Gaming X trio just dropped. The regular Superme X is the one I liked the most for my lian li built lmao. but never really looked too hard at getting it.

Yeah, of all Air Cooled models, it seems to perform as one of the best. Luckly, not in a rush, so I can wait it out to hopefully snag what I want before the 5000 series... lol.

I planned on getting a 4090, but prices are flat out insane. No chance in Hell am I paying $2000+ for a GPU unless it also offers unlimited hand jobs by a perfect 10 supermodel.

I bought a 4080 FE from BB a couple weeks ago when I was there to pick up another NVMe for my new build. I saw an open box 4080 and asked if it was reserved for someone. The sales kid said no so I snatched it for $1099.

So I have my watercooled 4090 TUF around 245+ core and 1725+ memory. My port royal score maxed out around 28199 and any further increases in core or memory actually lowers the score.

GPU temps are around 52c, hotspot 64c, and memory is 76c under load.

Have I pretty much maxed out the cards potential OC?

Also, are my memory temps about where they should be under water and with an active backplate?

Voltage and power limit also maxed out in afterburner.

That's an insane memory OC! Lower performance likely indicates error correction, and you found your "stable" max.

I'm pretty happy with my Suprim Liquid X. What a powerhouse. And it's basically silent. I've had some screen flickering but I assume that's a G-SYNC issue.

Ya I think this is as far as I can go. Port Royal seems to run best after a fresh restart of windows, so I was able to score a little higher at 28403

https://www.3dmark.com/3dm/87489901?

Going to lower it to 220 core, 1700 mem for regular gaming and see how that goes. Shame it has some coil whine though, it puts my old 3090 to shame in Total War Warhammer 3.

If I recall, I believe your overall power limit is between the die and the memory. So, depending on what you're trying to do, sometimes lowering one to raise the other while not hitting the power limit could be advantageous. But for gaming, doubt you would notice that much on such a powerful card.

I caved/got lucky and got a TUF OC after not being able to wait for another 4090 FE. Was an excuse to get the Optimus block and play with that when it comes in. I'm excited to see what it can do. Are you running the STRIX BIOS?

I was considering it, but might hold off for the time being. I do feel like the card could be drawing more power though.

If you do flash your TUF, please let us know if it improves overclocking

Got the MSI 4090 Gaming X Trio air cooled version since there isn't much difference between the blocked and air versions now a days with the cards being as think as two 360mm rads lol

Now the issue is which power supply to get with a good 600w 16 pin cable native?

I highly recommend anyone with a Seasonic P/S get one of their cables. They just got them in Thursday

BTOS will have them early January, and I was able to pay for one through customer support. Really nice individual cable. Audible click for the 12VHPWR cable and no worrisome bends at all.

4090 is really crazy fast and completely silent. I got the Gigabyte Windforce. Pretty happy. My 5600x drives it fine.

Is this place legit? Is it the only place to get the cable? I cant find them on the Seasonic site or anywhere else.

If you email Seasonic support they will tell you to buy from BTOS as your first option, CableMod being their second recommendation. BTOS makes the cable you see on the Seasonic site.

I'm very happy with my BTOS cable and prefer it over the 4-1 CableMod I was using before.

Ok thanks for the info. I have the VERTEX GX-1200 on backorder but I think I will just cancel that and get the cable for my Focus GX-1000. It is only 2 years old and I do not really want to spend over 300 bucks for a new PSU that is not really needed.

I hear ya, I wasn't ready to replace my Focus 850 Platinum yet.

Does the BTOS only work on Seasonic PS? Which cable is it? Link? Wondering how many inputs it uses for the 16 pin?
The cable mod one is a 3x8 to 1x16 right? Don't we need a 4x8 to 1x16?

It is only for Seasonic (unless there are PSU that use the same exact pin-out). It uses 2x8. The CableMod is 3x8 or 4x8.
