Hi Folks

Got a new Sapphire pulse 6800xt and it running very fast and hot at stock settings , out of the box. I've seen it hit 2490 and 95 c at times. using latest Adrenalin drivers etc. Should it run this fast at stock. advertised frequency are 2300 boost. have tried under clocking it to get temps down but adrenalin keeps forgetting adjustments but that another story. FYI side of case is off and room is cool at 18 c. Have read post on temps for this card and and folks seem to think 80 c is a better temp for the long term . Any help greatly appreciated as I don't want to cook card . pic of temps is running BF2042 at 2k on Ultra .

Thanks pendragon1, still have a question as to why its freq is so high at stock ? wrong bios ? just wondering has any one else had this problem.
clocks seem normal from what ive seen, 2400-2600 avg. they boost based on the "current" temp, yours is decent. id expect it to start dropping speed around 75c. the hot spot doesnt seem to play into the speed but thats what i thought you were talking/worried about, because i skimmed/read too quick...

Something wrong with drivers maybe cooking cards

im skeptical of the drivers causing this. its from a single source speculating. your temps look fine.

Did you buy it second hand? This was derived from some guy overseas that happened to have all dead GPUs. Obviously its common to have latest drivers so that by default is the common denominator even if its not the driver. Wouldn't be surprised lot of second hand mined cards with custom bios floating around that driver can't control fully may be?

By the way your junction seems fine to me. Seen plenty of RDNA 2 cards run in that zone. 95c is nothing to worry about throttling is at 110c.

I have Powercolor rx 6500 xt itx, and it run 66~68c at stock with gpu hot spot / junction max ~95c.
Undervolted it a bit to 1.150mV, and oc it to core/mem 2850/2350 with lowered fan profile (max 62% at junction 100c), the card run faster and a bit cooler at max 66c and junction max 90c.

So for your card running faster from stock, yet having the gpu at 66c, junction ~90c is normal.

My Card came from Germany, my Son an engineer who works there bought it for me. It looked brand new in the box with protective plastic on card. etc so I don't think it was a x crypto card with mod bios, but hell who knows these days :) My days of pushing stuff to the edge are behind me. I don't even run 3700x over 4.2. It make little difference to my gaming and the cpu never goes above 60% utilization with the GPU maxed.
