Anything standing out to anyone that they'd swap out? I'm not invested in any of these particular parts really, so feel free to suggest alternatives.
All these parts are assuming a white theme but that is just kind of what I'm leaning towards and not a must have.
Use is general PC use...some photo/video editing and gaming. I tend to keep my builds for many years, so going higher is ok within reason. Gaming is mostly WoW, Elden RIng, CP2077.
Current monitor is 1920x1200@60 which will be upgraded at some point probably this year...144p or 4k is still up in the air and not included in this current upgrade. Regardless, lets assume 4k for longevity's sake...hence the 4080.

I'd put the money towards a better monitor now, then revisit a rebuild when you're ready to spend another chuck of money. 60hz just looks so rough in my opinion once you've seen games at a high refresh rate.

I would get DDR5-6000 or 6400 speed memory since you are getting a whole new platform anyway and it seems like the small bump in price isn't a concern based on the high-end nature of the other components you picked. (Why hamper a 13900K with slow memory?)
Also, double-check Z790 MBs to see if they offer any better connectivity options than the Z690 series that you might want, like better/more USB options, built-in ethernet speeds, etc. If not, then Z690 is fine.
Lastly, think about 1 or 2 TB boot drive (980 Pro) and a 2TB games/storage secondary drive (could be another 980 Pro or something less pricey but good, like 970 EVO Plus or equivalent).
Basically, spend the couple hundred extra now rather than wish you did 9 months from now.

While I don't disagree..my current machine would not be able to handle 4k so that is why I'm doing the PC first.

AMD 7950X is a better choice but both are overkill for your needs. 13600K is currently ideal. There are cheaper NVMe alternatives, 4080 is terrible value and you can wait with a 1200p60 monitor for 4090 to come in stock at MSRP or 4080 to drop significantly.

Thanks, I'll look at the other MB options. As far as the RAM goes, I don't have a problem spending a little more money if it makes sense. I'm just not convinced that going from 5600 to 6000 would provide any real world tangible boost in performance at 4k. I will have to do some more looking around.

True, it might not make much of a difference. But in other non-gaming tasks, it might help performance depending on the task. And you may not care if it speeds up those tasks, too, since it probably wouldn't be a huge difference in time. If all the machine does is game at 4K, then I guess you can skip the memory speed increase at least until the 6090Ti comes out and 4K runs at 240 fps.

The one thing I might look at changing is going with 64GB of memory. You said that you want this build to last many years and my experience is that RAM is one of the first things that becomes a limiting factor for general multitasking use in older systems. Right now, most pre-built gaming PC's at Bestbuy are still using 16GB of memory but [H] folks here are using 32GB as the most common RAM quantity in new systems and I suspect that could flip to 64GB as early as this year. I think given that you are trying to future-proof your system, RAM is a very good thing to overbuild on.

That being said, RAM is also one of the easiest things to upgrade (provided that your motherboard has 4 DIMMs) and so if you are trying to save some $$ now you can always buy yourself another matching kit down the road. 32GB should be enough for a few more years, I would just expect that you will be wanting to upgrade your memory qty in the next 2-3 years. I built my system last summer and I thought that 32GB was going to be overkill. That said, when I ran some really demanding apps with other windows and Thunderbird open in the background I have seen my utilization up around 14GB. I am planning to upgrade to 64GB before in the next year or so.

I know that you meant to say 1440P but 144P brings back some fond memories of my old Gameboy Color days. 140p will always be one of my favorite resolutions and holds great sentimental value for me! :D

But yeah, I agree with other posters that with the system you are building here you can do way more than 1920x1200. Maybe putting off the RAM upgrade to take full advantage of your GPU with a better monitor is the best short-term decision to get the best gaming experience out of your new build.

Oh for sure, I agree that 64GB of ram is going to be the future go to. My current machine that I have now has 32GB and I built it back in 2015 so getting 32GB on this new build will probably be doubled at some point.

Yeah, this thing is way overkill for 1920x1200 no doubt. The monitor will be next on my radar after getting this machine built and working. Just wanted to get the PC done first before focusing on the monitor...since I could not even run 4K games at all with this current machine. 😆

I went ahead and ordered the rest of the parts and should all be here next week. Here was the final parts list: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/F84V8r

At 4k you will be GPU limited, and not CPU limited so you don't need a top CPU for 4k.

yeah, the 7950x wasn't really chosen for gaming alone. i will game on it, but it won't be the primary focus. the new monitor will come later, that's next to research. lol

I just did a brand new build like you are looking to do.
My suggestion would be to get a Z790 board instead of the Z690 for the updated features and support and hardware.

I would also get DDR5 6000 or higher. I personally went for 64gb because like you, my build needs to last me for years and years.

I also splurged and got myself the 13900KS just because it was released when I was ready to buy because I want to go up to 6ghz for gaming but that is definitely not needed I just did it for fun and the boost in clock speed for gaming since I have a triple radiator build so I can cool it. Just thought I'd mention that lol.

I also splurged and bought 2 drives the 980 Pro 2tb for boot and programs and also the WD SN850X 4tb version for games because like we said for longevity.

Other than that I would say you're on the right track have fun I'm sure you will lol.

Oh and one more thing get a nice mini led 144hz display asap 60 is honestly unacceptable, for real trust that thing needs to be a side monitor or given away or chucked out the window lmao

lol for sure...dude, i've had this damn monitor since like 2009 and it's served me well for so long...it's just time to move on. That's really what started me even looking at a PC upgrade. I was thinking I would upgrade my monitor this year, but my current machine would not be able to handle any higher resolution or refresh rate. So I figured I would do the PC first, then get the monitor afterwards. I ordered everything earlier today, should be in next week. Here's what I ended up getting: https://pcpartpicker.com/list/F84V8r

Your build sounds really good, enjoy...buy once, cry once. 😆

Wow dude you are building one hell of a badass rig! 4090 Suprim and top of the line AMD chip nice and that's the same RAM I have also sweet build bro have fun 😊

thanks bro..that KF you got is sick as well. enjoy!
Thanks dude :) You mean the 13900KS right? cause the 12700KF is the chip it's replacing lol It comes in on Monday I'm nerding out so hard haha prolly same time your 7950X comes in yoooo merry Christmas to us lol you're in ultra megatron nerd 😎 mode though you have a 4090 coming in also watch out!!! LOL😎
