Anybody plan on grabbing one of the new RX7xxx Navi cards on launch?

I guess that makes my decision much easier. I'd rather not deal with melting dongles/adapters or have to pay extra for cablemod adapters or atx 3.0 psus.
Anything is possible, but I doubt they will ship 4080 November 16 and even more so later with some of them having the bad adapters in the box.

I am really surprised at the clocks. Amd just didn’t want to push the card it seems but they left a lot of room for AIBs. I think this card can go over 3ghz if you wanna push it to 400+ watts. Which will probably happen around 1200 or so. Get it closer to 4090.

The presentation was a little scant on details, if the benchmarks are good I might be in, we'll see.

Does AMD usually lift NDA on release day or before? I'm hoping to see reviews before so I can decide if I wanna go to Microcenter on release day or not.

That's what makes me hesitate... I'll wait to see some proper numbers, not marketing spin
Yeah, usually they share SOMETHING performance wise. Being absent means it's probably realistically about 20-40% faster than a 6950 XT, which means it'll beat out a 3090 Ti for sure, and will be a good value for the price, but it won't be top dog.

I also worry about initial drivers with the new chiplet design but I'm sure they'll mature quick enough

Not sure about that. I may seem like an Nvidia fanboy but that's with good reason - used ATI/AMD from 4870 up until the 290X, then once again with a 5700XT - it took a good year for the drivers on the 5700XT to be workable, and I'd have random screen blacks before then (once cost my brother a online MTG arena tournament and got him to lose to a disconnect in a cash event). I expect this to be a good while before the drivers are useable.

AMD makes awesome hardware, but their software just sucks (although Adrenaline does look cool).

What percentage of them are melting would you say? I've seen maybe 15 to 20 posting a picture out of what must be tens of thousands of cards sold. I wouldn't worry about it too much.

I too am team green but I like to see competition. You can't deny AMD have gotten better with their drivers although considering how bad they once were that's an easy ask haha

Guess we will know more in a few weeks but yeah, I'd say for outright performance nVidia has won again

I want to build a new rig in the near future, and so I might end up going all-in on AMD (first time in what seems like forever) -- CPU + GPU (most likely a 5800X3D + 7900XTX).

(Ray Tracing not a big priority for the games I play, even counting CP2077)

AMD's presentation said 7950xtx is 70% than 6950xtx at 4k. I'm betting it's going to be within 10% of the 4090. Not sure how they say the 4080/4070 is their competition. The 4080 12gb was already slower than 3090ti or on par and the 4080 16gb is probably 20-30% faster than 3090ti. If 7950xtx is 70% faster than 6950xt, how does that not put it up in the 4090 territory? My guess is it'll be right in between 4080 16gb and 4090.

They did say it’s 54% faster at same wattage. Given how low the clocks are. I think AIBs are probably gonna have 3ghz models. Getting another 20% or so. It should creep up closer to 4090 in raster. Within in 10% at 4K I think.

I just don’t think they wanted to compete with AIBs. Let them design 3 connector designs and make little more profit. I think they could have pushed it to 450w but probably didn’t want to and have the base models below 1k.

Come on, Red Devil!

It will be interesting to see if they launch at MSRP. If they do, they should be very competitive.

When they started with the "performance per watt talk" it was obvious they didn't have a shot at the crown. Question is do they care? They're doing the same with CPUs. Efficiency is their culture. It's certainly interesting to give people a choice between efficiency and brute force.

I haven't bought an AMD in a while. Is Sapphire one of the better AIBs to go with?

ive had them, msi and xfx amd cards over the last 10 years, they all seem about equal now, IF you are comparing equal tiers.
cant comment on rmas, never needed one...

edit: re the topic, maybe but probably not a top end one, need reviews and more options.

ahh maybe a bit underwhelmed in actual performance. Was hoping raster would be a bit more competitive... its not bad certainly, but was hoping it would be closer to the 4090 overall. RT performance came in at kind of the worst case scenario.

However they certainly priced it VERY aggressively. The price will certainly make people consider it, especially if you dont really care about RT.

That said, I think it will definitely have an effect on the nvidias 4080 plans, I dont see how it cant. Ie faster raster than 4080 16gig, slower RT, $200 cheaper. Will nvidia be forced to price cut, or will they push their RT advantage even though they are slower in regular raster?

I snagged an ASUS 6800XT at a solid price before this announcement, thinking that I could return it and purchase an rdna3 card if AMD leaned the right direction. I was really hoping AMD would be aggressive and would make available something in the 7700-7800xt range at a competitive price at launch. In other words, looks like I'll be rocking the 6800xt for a while.

6800XT is a great card, unless you gotta have max 4K performance.

Guess I'll have to wait and see what performance the 7900XTX is compared to the 4090s. I really want to upgrade but I finally got a 4k TV that does 144Hz (Samsung 43" QN90B) and my decision will come down to what is going to give the best value while ensuring 4k maxxed out graphics are well above 60fps. Fingers crossed but pretty sure I'll bit the bullet on a 4090...

Using TechPowerup's benchmark numbers for Cyberpunk2077 at 4K:
6950XT = 39 fps
7900XTX = 66 fps (38.9 fps x 1.7)
RTX4090 = 71 fps
PERFORMANCE DIFFERENCE = 5 fps or 7% slower than 4090
PRICE DIFFERNECE = $600 or 60% expensive than XTX

I do not like the naming. It seems like these should have been the 7900XT and 7800XT. Why not follow the historical patterns we all know and understand. It's almost like they want to confuse buyers.
First the dumb naming virus got to Nvidia and now it has infected AMD.

From what I've been reading, looks like AMD left some headroom for AIBs to play with, so a "top-end, top-tier" XTX model could get reasonably close to a "stock, or basic" 4090 (after all, AMD currently isn't in the business of directly competing with their AIB partners via reference cards, unlike NVIDIA).

Guess we'll know more, once the reviews come out in roughly a month (as usual).

"Higher model numbers mean more dollars we can charge and pretend it's a better deal"... gotta love marketing people, they figure your all sheep and wont realize what you just said.

Thats what happened with the new chipset... it allows room to neuter down the lower tiers and be stingy with AM5 goodness..

I haven't bought an AMD card in a while. Did the 6xxx series have supply issues like Ampere? Should we be expecting the same supply issue as with Ada?
