Ryzen 4 Reviews Are Out.

Over a 1,000 point increase by just setting my AIO (NZXT Kraken X63 280MM) to "Performance" setting. Still waiting on my Noctua industrial fans which should crank it up further.

what latency are you guys getting with ddr5 6000. I have the kingston fury RGB 6000 expo at 36-38-38-80 default but getting 83.6ns. Seems really low for 6000 with those timings.

I get 68-69 at that speed/timing. From what I have seen... my results are typical.
Maybe windows is doing something in the background during your test.

You were likely right. I closed a bunch of shit in task bar and down to 72ns now lol.
 
Even with 6000 MHz / CL30 I get around there. Much slower than my super nice DDR4 kits.
 
Yea but I think overall bandwidth is what makes up for it eventually.
The cache number 1 and then the massive bandwidth more than make up for it , look at 9th series intel and 10th series latency is low 30s with ddr 4 for kits with same ddr 4 kits on ryzen 3 you see high 60s but ryzen clearly is faster becuase of all the cache it uses

It was first turn on. I can’t see for what’s visible in mobo. I tried the power supply with the jumper it turned on fine so wondering what the hell happened, maybe no load on it and damage already done. May be it was power supply that popped on first try. The board has so many damn heat sinks can’t really take it all apart lmao. From what I saw there was nothing visible. Is that normally some smell or smoke that I should notice? If felts like it came from the back where the power supply is at. Gonna Try another power supply to see if they boots it.


I mean it was really loud pops though. I don’t think mobo capacitors would pop that loud. Kinda spooked me almost like a loud fireworks. No smoke though. Really weird experience.
Give your board and PSU the good ole sniff test.

It depends. Certain workloads/games are more sensitive to bandwidth than latency. Others are latency sensitive over bandwidth. I suppose that latency sensitive workloads would be better served by some high end b-die DDR4 running at the highest speeds possible over mediocre DDR5.
 
lol gave it to the power supply it got me the answer. Somethign sure did op. Brown tuff popped out of the modular plugs lol

Wait. Are you saying your RTX-4090 fried your PSU? What wattage PSU and brand?
 
I'm not entirely clear on how cooling works on these chips. Jesus said they ramp to 95c under (any?) load?
How does fan curves work? Slightly confused here.

They boost high enough to hit 95c, then modulate their clocks to stay at 95c, so the better the cooling.. the higher the clocks.

I have my fans set to ramp at 50c.. so that my single core turbo will be higher.
 
Is there an option of using load to control fan speeds? I dislike the idea of just trying cool the chip as much as possible all the time. I like my rigs to shut up when they're not really doing much, but I dont mind a little noise when its actually doing work, because I'll likely be wearing my headset.
 
I got it down to 33-35-35-96 last night. Trfc is stupid high at 840 though. Defaults at 876ish.
Ram tuning is a pain on my board. Recovery from too low timings is pretty bad. Pretty much have to clear cmos.

I’ve seen people on overclock.net posting Memtweakit screen shots with MSI and ASUS X670 boards. I didn’t think that was working on Ryzen much less X670? Anyone know what is up with that? Would help tremendously in sub timings.

Sold my AMD 7700X system already.My ASRock motherboard with RTX 4090 did not work well,so I just bought another Intel system. AMD system was my most favoite CPU to date ever,RIP little buddy.

Sure no problem. It is/was a known issue to me with some AMD AM5 motherboards and RTX 4090.Here is one quote from reviewer on Oct 9 2022.No need to list a bunch of reviers saying same stuff,not all AMD motherboards have these problems

Interestingly most AM5 boards either wouldn't POST or had issues with RTX 4090 graphics cards, requiring a simply BIOS update to fix. This lead to a silly random thought, a lot of people have claimed Nvidia is aiming to become an Apple of the PC world...


For my issue with Asrock motherboard. I was unable to get a post with RTX 4090.HDMI/Displayports did not work.System not stable on rare occasion I did get it to post with RTX 4090.If when working a restart system would go back to no post/black screen/hang.No DX12,No HDR working.Tried 3 different HDR monitors and 1 non-HDR

After reformatting,remove the RTX 4090 ,put in RTX 3090 test to see if it works for around 8Hrs of troubleshooting ,I made some headway.

I was able to get HDMI working with RTX 4090 by doing this.
Plug HDMI cable into IGPU on motherboard,reformatt again through HDMI only on LG OLED .
Then installed the Nvidia drivers
Then Install RTX 4090 would post and run on HDMI but no display ports on second monitor on system.

To get displayports working again, another install through IGPU over HDMI but on a different monitor attached to the system.
Then install Nvidia drivers the install RTX 4090 and display ports worked.

So about 10hrs-11hrs total troubleshooting to get working system.

Now when working some games would work awesome such as Cyberpunk minus drivers bugs on RTX 4090.
Other games such as Spiderman Remaster not so goood,RTX 3080/RTX3090 out performed the RTX 4090.

Said screw it bought another Intel system so in two weeks went from 12900K to awesome 7700x to 12600K and next week most likely a 113900K lol.

So far results are worse with my Noctuas. I guess I'll save the $60 and use the NZXT stock ones. Using these - https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KFCRF1A (Noctua NF-A14 iPPC-3000 PWM) - must not have enough static pressure.
Those Noctua Industrials have never been great for rads, especially for the money. Well, maybe back when they first released, they were pretty decent, but now they have way more/better competition, especially since they are airflow-focused moreso than pressure. You might want to try either Arctic's P14, Thermaltake's Toughfan 14, or EK's Vardar 140. Shame that Nidec, Noctua, and Phanteks haven't come out with 140mm versions of their GTyphoon/NF-A12/T30 fans that work so well.

Pulled the trigger on a 7900x build. Between the Amazon sales, and EVGA B stock I was able to keep it reasonable.

I was really hoping the promise of a $125 board was going to deliver but oh well. Ended up getting an Asus prime b650 plus. I wanted another Nvme slot or 2 but it seemed every board below $300 was making some sort of dumb compromise. In the end it will be cheaper to get an add on card.

Godly update to your current spec plus you have 2 x M.2 slots and 4 x SATA 6Gb/s ports no need for add in cards ,

It's true, I have a bad habit of nickel and diming myself for features that I think I might need. Younger me would have ended up with a $500 motherboard. In the end I looked at what my 12 year old computer eventually morphed into and realized a bare bones board would do just fine.
 


This video shows how well Ryzen 4 works, it strives at all costs to overclock itself no matter the cooler, and how well it consistently can hold high clocks, I have plenty Ryzen 3 series and i love how cool they run, but hate how inconsistent the clock is , Thes chips auto overclock , which brings temps . . . Ryzen 4 is the Ryzen 3 owner overclocker dream. and of lately undervolting is in overclocking

My Asrock board wouldn’t post with my 4090 either.

I had iGPU disabled, so I cleared cmos and ran the iGPU. Device manger showed something like Microsoft display adapter and it had error 43.

I tried installing the driver and it came to life and hasn’t been a problem since.

Display port and hdmi are working.

Huh. Same thing happened with my ASUS GENE and my STRIX. Had the latest 0705 BIOs. In my case it went smooth since I was using USB-C video previously (no discrete card) - so I just connected that and installed NVIDIA drivers. So maybe it’s an all AM5 thing.

Seems like a good reason to leave onboard video enabled?

I played more with it and the issues partially were from me installing the rad a different way so the cables weren’t optimal. Fixed that and most performance came back - still not as good as stock NZXT X63 fans in Cinebench. However, temps now never hit 95 with the Noctua NF-A14s….

I don’t see why after you get it going. It’s trivial but if the integrates video is on. It uses almost a gig of ram and has the Radeon driver loaded in windows. I guess you could disable it in windows, but you are still out ram.

Does it affect gaming performance? I know in laptop land it’s a no no so maybe it’s similar…
 
Early adopter taxes are emerging this quarter and will likely continue until well into the new year. Will be interesting to see it unfold once again none the less. To me it's the best time to be a tech nerd.

I would t worry about the pwm version at that price. The pwm are much pricier for some finer levels of speed control and slower fan speeds theoretically. I’m sure they do something else better but that’s such a good price…
