Which RTX 4090 card are you planning or consider to get?

Unless they're offering a 10 year warranty, ain't no one gonna spend an extra $400 for this:

It seems very difficult to find specs on the various fans that are being used on these cards. I would love to know the bearing type (Ball, FDB, Sleeve, etc). I would love to know the CFM, etc also. Surely there are differences between cards where some are more tailored toward silent operation where others are more tailored toward max airflow. I don't care about noise, I just want the max airflow possible, and preferably ball bearings so that they essentially last forever (even though ball bearings are louder).

Even better would be having the ability to install my own fans, but I have not seen that any of these fans are replaceable.

Usually Gamers Nexus has tear down videos of various cards and will sometimes list fan part numbers, that might be the only option to find some fan specs.

I usually watch Buildzoid PCB analysis videos as well although those strictly comment on VRM and PCB items, not cooling.

Looks like $1749 is the price. It's the model that immediately stood out to me from day one. I may also be biased by a lucky bin on a Suprim 3080 that got within a hair of stock 3090 scores on TimeSpy. Suprim was/is MSI's "Strix" flagship equivalent in terms of engineering effort and quality of components (Suprim > Trio X > Ventus/Duke). Whether that'll continue with 40-series, or just a branding goalpost shifting, I guess we'll see.

AIO coolers also made a massive difference in 30-series for temps - both 3080 and 3090 - to the extent the cheapest/shittiest AIO on a 30-series outperformed the best aircooled 3080's and 3090's I tested. No brainer going with AIO. Plus it keeps a 2-slot form factor.

Less than I expected, that maybe the one. Still want to see AMD offerings, real reviews on everything plus waiting period with Nvidia, 2080 TI fiasco with failures, 3090 issues on launch. Me think waiting is in order for the 40 series
 
I reached out to Asetek and they confirmed the MSI 4090 Suprim Liquid is not by them. This may explain why MSI is able to price it lower than expected. It’s over if the cooler is from freaking Apaltek XD

Where is everyone planning to purchase their card from? I have a reseller account with Newegg so I'll probably go with them. I assume Amazon, Best Buy, and B&H are also good choices.

I don't think it matters. You'll be able to find what you want with no issues right from the start. Kyle mentioned he's never seen so much halo product before. With the high prices this will make it easy to find what you want. I'd buy from the retailer that treats you the best.
 
Not buying MSI Suprim again after the fiasco with a 3080 Ti Suprim that had noisy fans and high temperatures. Will stick with Palit Gamerock or Asus TUF this time.

The Suprim models had the lowest overall decibel measurements, except the fan noise was all in the most audible spectrum. It's like MSI just designed their cards with a simple decibel meter and completely forgot about the science of audibility (the fletcher-munson effect). So even though they measured the lowest in pure decibles, in practice they sounded like they were 10x louder than evga cards.
 
Well I tried quite a few cards last gen. Only EVGA card with a decent quiet cooler is 3090 Ti. Palit Gamerock versions have by far the quietest fans (no audible sound). Asus TUF was also extremely quiet.

My blacklist is MSI Suprim and MSI Trio.
Asus Strix for coil whine (might be isolated).
EVGA for very high fan noise (on 3080 and 3090 first models).
Gigabyte gaming and eagle cards (except 3070 which is quiet).

My next purchase will most likely be a TUF or Palit. But I will buy after reviews even if I have to wait a month. Selling a used card that I pay 1600-1800 to acquire would be a bitch when there is no mining craze. Can’t flip cards around if you don’t like fan and temps like you used to.
 
Thinking about getting the 4090 FE and then putting a EK Quantum water block and active backplate on it. I have the same setup with a 3090 and love it.
 
Anyone have experience with one of these AIO cards? That MSI Suprim is looking really good compared to the giant air-cooled bricks. I don't want to go custom loop... might have to though, considering the noise these monsters will likely produce.

we still don't know who is the OEM for the AIO liquid cooler yet. It's not Asetek that's for sure.
 
Is there a listing of all the 4090 cards with how many slots wide they are? I only have 3 slots to work with unless I take the side door off and no way will an AIO model have hoses long enough to mount the radiator in the top of the case.

I'm thinking FE as it's the narrowest air-cooled card I've been able to confirm, but I'd prefer a 3-fan custom model if any quality options exist.

Only one that is smaller than 3 slots is the AIO. Next one would be 3.5 slots.

I'm curious to see how well that performs compared to the 30 series AIOs. No way would I buy without a review since it looks almost the same cooling as the 30 series and we know these cards run hotter....
 
That ASUS Strix makes all the other cards look small in comparison. The design is growing on me but still not worth the $2K Asus is asking.

LOL $2k for a single video card WTF? Please do not give nVidia your hard earned money on such an overpriced product. I don't want $1500+ prices on GPUs to become the new norm. That's just dumb.

Even the RTX 4080 for $1200 is stupid, I bought my RTX-3080 for $799 back in Nov. 2020, which is the next gen version 50% higher now?

I believe prices will drop once 3XXX stuff is almost out of the channel. They'll probably slot the 4080 Ti into the current 4080 price slot and drop the 4080 below $1K.

Remember the GTX 690 at $999 way back when? XX90 cards have always been expensive. That's not going to change.

I hear you regarding 90 series always being sky high priced. I understand.

But the 80 series have historically been more reasonable priced. Always well under $1000. More in that $699 to $799 range awhile now.

But all of a sudden the true RTX-4080 is $1200. F that.

The 80 series did play with impressive tag before

The 280 GTX was launched at $895 2022 US dollars
The 780 $826
1080TI: $845
2080...: $943
2080TI: $1118 and $1,415 for the FE

If one consider the 4080 12 gig the 2080 and the 4080 16 gig the 2080Ti the $900 and $1200 price tag even if an absolute seem higher are lower in actual value in our post inflation world, the 4080 is the exact same price pretty much than the 280 GTX was (not everyone will do so, some will see the 4090 has the 2080TI and the 4080 16 gig has the 2080).

the 3090 and 3090TI video card and the 4090 would not make them has top of the line to justify their price in people mind (without talking about ram, bandwidth, actual size of the die and so on) and even if everyone know well about inflation, with the console price tag not moving much we are still influenced by meaningless face value price tag change.
 
Looking at all the pictures and unboxing videos, it seems like the size of the card is going to be a very big deal. Mainly in terms of the number of slots that are taken up.

We have the founders edition that takes up 3 slots, but does not protrude into the 4th slot's space. That 4th slot would need to be kept open so that nothing blocks the fan, so for all intents and purposes the 4090 FE requires 4 slots.

But most of the 3rd party cooling solutions seem to have fans that DO protrude into the space of the 4th slot, to the extent that you would probably want to have the 5th slot open also in order to not block the fans, which essentially means that they require 5 slots.

It's pretty obnoxious when a videocard blocks almost every extra add-in card slot on your motherboard. Right now I have 3 extra add-in cards. A soundcard, a dual-port network card, and a 2nd videocard (small card for 5th and 6th monitor). Even with the FE, one of those cards is going to have to go. With one of those 3rd party coolers, I'd have to remove two of those cards. At least with the FE, I can just remove the network card and try to replace that with external USB network adapters. Removing the other videocard or the soundcard would both result in significant compromises while gaming, which is the last thing I should have to do when plunking down ~$1700+ for a videocard.

It's quite the burden on those of us that make use of all our expansion slots, especially in the HEDT space. I have two PCIe storage cards, a two slot sound card plus my 2.75 slot video card (and I want to add a 10G nic someday) Fortunately in my super giant case I have two extra 3 slot vertical mounts (plus 8 for the board) so I have a jumble of riser cables to make everything work. Even then, I too, am limited to 3 slots because I need to access my board slots and so my gpu has to go to a riser.

Unfortunately for people like us, this must be why ATX boards seem to be moving to having just 2 widely spaced x16 slots: they knew this was coming and the pros and enthusiasts and their expansion cards can pound sand.

I wonder how much it would cost (specially with little of a challenge a GPU seem to be in the PCI 5.0 bandwith world) to have and use the very bottom slot for a GPU (moving connector under it would it need be), this way all the PCI slot become free again at what could be a reasonable price, just need a case with room under the motherboard.

Yeah when I ran my 3-way SLI setup (now THAT took up a lot of slots), I used a ribbon cable extender from underneath one of the videocards, with my sound card literally sitting on the bottom of my case - used it like that for 2-3 years.
