Elden Ring (From Software RPG)

How many weapons do you all find yourselves actually leveling up? I’m around level 60 and can buy unlimited level 1 and 2 smithing stones so I can take anything up to +6 no problem. I’m guessing some of the higher ones will be available later.

I’m primary using a +12 Longsword, the weapon I started with. It was all I had, all I was used to, and didn’t get any better ones until much later. I want to try more stuff but fully committing to leveling up just one other weapon to that level would deplete the stones big time.

I didn't branch out until I hit mid/late game. Theres a couple quest lines that provide you a vendor for limited or unlimited stones.

My crutch was a +5 Bloodhound fang for about 1/2 the game

find a weapon you really like and upgrade it...there are also boss weapons that you can activate through those walking Mausoleums...you can easily update multiple weapons if you find a lot of those smithing stones but not until mid to late game...or you could look online for what people consider to be the best weapons and see if you like them and upgrade

I went ahead and upgraded Bloodhound Fang to +9, really like it! The speed of the heavy stuff takes a little getting used to but it’s been killer for me since I got used to it.

Currently running Rahdan’s armor set to go with it, still couldn’t take out that Crimson Knight in Leyndell capital. x(

Those were tough, no doubt about it. I think I ended up hitting a wall and then just having a really good run and just utterly beating them down. I wish I could say it was "skill" but in my case, pure dumb luck. The only mini-boss that gave me the worst times, were the Bell Bearing Hunters, and the one in Caelid, just ate me for dinner, time and time and time and time and time and time again. I ended up jumping up on a roof and cheesing him to death. The reward, was simply not worth the effort in that case.

there was one spot late game where you fight 4 Revenants back to back...or maybe it was 5...that was brutal but luckily I was pretty leveled up by then...it's also an optional area

Just beat Mohg, man that was tough even with a +10 mimic lol.

I’m actually really struggling with gargoyles still too, I forget where but I need to return to the place you fight two of em at once, pretty sure that leads to another area.

fighting Mohg solo was really annoying because of his constant blood attacks...then he has that move where he drains your health (you can negate that by drinking a potion)...the 2 Gargoyles are in the Nokron Eternal City area

That's right thanks. Yeah that 3x blood loss move was so annoying. I didn't have the right tear so I had to just use 3 healing potions each time. It was confirmation of how tough he was intended to be when he dropped 400k runes. Was so mad I didn't have my golden scarab equipped x(

Omg, this death rite bird in mountains of giants, I. Can't. Kill. It. I'm like 140ish and have tried multiple methods, even with a dex build and another strength build. I feel like a need a one off holy plan for this f*** Maybe golden halberd or something

the upgraded Bloodhound's Fang should get you through the entire game...most enemies are weak to bleed which makes that weapon OP

It's immune to hemorrhaging, holy damage and strike weapons are it's only weaknesses, I tried a strike weapon, no dice, backed up a save and did a build around the golden halberd and took it out the first try with my mimic tear. I've only respec'd twice and have like 10 larval tears so it's not a big deal, still though, not into re-spec'ing for individual battles, particularly non-main bosses. Couldn't even get close to killing the lion right after with that build.

I don't remember that bird being overly tough, but I was still using my golden halberd as my main weapon at the time. That's probably the ticket for him.

That Commander at the nearby fort, he's a different story; That boss took the most attempts for me to defeat of any boss in that game.

Commander Niall and yes, he was a bitch and half.

I almost feel like I’ve hit a wall in Elphael. There’s an erdtree, a couple knights, and a few ballista that I just can’t take out. I was able to get through mid game just by over leveling but late game that doesn’t really matter.

Yeah, I remember that spot - it was brutal. I took the top route (I believe it was a tree branch) to drop down on to the site of grace and cheesed the erdtree from behind. Not my proudest moment, but by the end game I had no honor left to give.

the only problem with this game is the number of re-used/repeating enemies...different versions of the same enemy with a unique special ability such as fire, frost, scarlet rot etc- Ulcerated Tree Spirit, Minor Erdtree, dragons, Godskin Duo etc

Yeah I got to that spot of grace too, I read it was cheese-able from there but the damn thing came into the room every time, plus any summons would despawn from there. Oh well, I got past it with someone elses help. Also beat Melania but needed help on that one too, after about 10 tries with my mimic I just said screw it. I want to experience the game but not at the expense of doing the same fights over and over and over, 10 is about my limit.

Just beat the game, man what a ride. I'm so glad I was able to get over the hump that is "Souls Like" and get through it. Last 3 bosses were pretty easy but I was over-leveled pretty hard at 165, that play through was about 90 hours. For the most part I just used an upgraded Longsword until I got Bloodhound Fang, then switched to the Gargoyle Greatsword so I I could use different ashes, mostly used the Jellyfish shield until I decided to use the Brass shield for it's no skill. Also just used whatever the heaviest armor I had until I got some of the pretty stuff at the end and switched to that just because. I wish the various armor buffs were more clear.

I started a new game + but not sure how much I'll invest in that one, though it was fun kicking the Tree Sentinal's ass and then just running straight to Margit and laying the smack down right off the bat. I definitely missed quite a few quests, hell, I didn't even know until suuuuper late that you have to exhaust dialogue with NPC's, once they were done talking the first time I thought that was it.

I had a Samurai character going before that one but I didn't get far, only level 15 or so, I may stick with that and see how I do with dual katanas. Would like to go the sorcery route but I tried it a little and have no idea what I'm doing, would be like learning the game all over again. Either way, great game, and I'm not done with it yet =)

I was burnt out after my first playthrough (did not use a walkthrough for a lot of it- especially in the early parts)...230+ hours...without a walkthrough the thing that took me the longest amount of time was figuring out where the hell the key to that Raya Lucaria Academy was...I spent days doing other quests and exploration while trying to find the key...I literally looked everywhere...finally gave up and looked it up online...I would never have found that on my own- hidden on a dead body behind an overpowered dragon

Good game but serious burnout after one playthrough. Liked the older games better.

Waiting for DLC to relight the fire. Mostly just so I can invade and duel again

Yeah I don’t have nearly enough patience for that. One of my biggest complaints is how little direction the game gives you. I had no idea what to do and where to go faaar too often.

Compared to Dark Souls? I didn’t know WTF to do when reaching Firelink Shrine. At least in Elden Ring, you had the golden sparkle waypoint markers.

I thought you where going to out play everyone by thousands of hours?

With progression, I never ran into any issues progressing further into the game. Even if I didn't necessarily go where they pushed me, the map was so damned large that there was always somewhere I could go. I completely 100% would've missed the hidden areas like the Haligtree...but a lot of that also has to do with the stupid prompt at the elevator to get there. My general rule for playing Elden Ring was to just keep going to new places. If it didn't seem accessible, go somewhere else and then eventually try circling back to the blocked off spots. With Raya Lucaria, I don't think I ever intentionally sought out the key - I just found it at some point and then returned later.
Burnout with Elden Ring is 100% real, though. I think it's mainly because the game is so damned big and a little repetitious to begin with. After my 2 runs I have no desire to return to it any time soon. I probably won't touch it again until the DLC hits.

??...I literally have over a thousand hours played with each From Software game...my first playthrough of Elden Ring was 230+ hours...and you're saying that I won't have more hours played than the vast majority of players?...I plan on re-playing Elden Ring, I just needed a break after my first run...I've been hyped about ray-tracing since it was first announced and actually waited months to start the game because of it...so yes I will easily have 1000+ hours in Elden Ring...my 1000+ hours in the other games wasn't with 1 playthrough, it was multiple times and in some cases like Dark Souls 1 and 2 multiple versions of the game

I’ve only booted up the original Dark Souls for like an hour, couldn’t figure anything out, particularly the controls using kb/m at the time, so said eff this.

I am considering giving DS3 a go now that I’ve figured out the mechanics a bit.

I wish the chest was shareable between characters, that would make new runs really interesting.

the good thing about replaying Elden Ring is that you realize that you don't need to explore everything...I think most of the game is filled with optional content...in my first playthrough I wanted to explore every cave, dungeon, location, fight every enemy etc...but going forward now that I know which locations, enemies are important to the story it won't take 200+ hours...a lot of those caves, catacombs etc got very repetitive towards the end

Wut... If I remember correctly there is a map on the ground right at the door, which shows exactly where the key is. Like exact pinpoint location. I rode over to the key in like 3 mins after reaching the locked doors and snatched it from behind the dragon.

It is a very valid complaint that the game doesn't point you in the right direction for many of the quests, but that definitely wasn't one of them.

Yeah, I seem to recall a fairly accurate map being found which showed the location. I'm thinking that scary sleeping dragon is what kept polony away.

I picked up the map/note right away but I don't think it said the exact location...or maybe it did and I missed that...I remember a note where a guy was talking about having the key...I looked on all the little islands around that map...plus the dragon threw me off as I was under-leveled at the time and didn't think the key would be behind him on a dead body

I can't believe you didn't wait for ray-tracing!

I can't believe you didn't wait for ray-tracing!

I waited 4 months...with no updates coming from FromSoft I decided to start in late June and finished in late July...I'm guessing RT will be added with the first DLC...I'm glad I waited as some of the patches really improved the game as far as map labels and rebalancing some of the weapons and bosses (the wrong aka much tougher version of the Fallingstar Beast was put into an early area by mistake which they later fixed)

It certainly kept me away, until I learned to kite the sumbitch on the horsey, roll in, get key and GTFO. It took me longer than it should have, to learn how the dragons worked in that game.
