EVGA will no longer do business with NVIDIA

Wow EVGA revenue for gpu is 78%. The CEO claims they are not laying off ATM. I don't know how they plan to stay in business shutting down majority of their business.

The margins on nVidia GPUs are absolutely pathetic as far as I know, I have to wonder if they aren't prototyping RDNA cards. AMD has made for some interesting times of late.

I just hope AMD doesn't get as comfortable as Intel and nVidia did.

nVidia has done some incredible things in the last ten years.

Being able to stand out in the tech industry as a particularly shitty company to do business with is a real accomplishment.

I think Kyle on this very site was one of the first to really point out what a complete cockintheass that nVidia was acting like.
A whole lot of hyperbole here for what boils down to businesses merely acting in their own best interest, and we don't have all the facts.

My guess is that EVGA wanted Nvidia to pay them for losing money on the GPU's they have yet to sell due to market shift. Nvidia probably told them to fly a kite and so EVGA is now flying a kite. As Gamers Nexus put it (fuck Jayztwocents) 80% of EVGA revenue comes from Nvidia's products. If EVGA doesn't want to go with AMD and Intel for graphic cards then they know what the GPU industry is going to be like for the next at least couple of years. I think their hubris is high when they have no other plans in terms of expanding their business. I think they'll either go the way of OCZ or come back to making GPU's sooner than we think.

Remember EVGA was involved in the mining craze just like everyone else, so they're just as fault for whatever their situation is as much as Nvidia.

There are plenty of other manufacturers willing to take their place, or maybe nobody will and we'll buy more Nvidia branded Nvdiia cards. This is not about principal. Companies don't exist for principal, they exist for money. This is not about making quality products. You call this heatsink from a EVGA GTX 970 quality? I don't have the memory of a goldfish like some people do. If EVGA were to sell RTX 4000 series cards, they have to compete against RTX 3000, AMD, and now Intel. There's of course the elephant in the room the used GPU market. Nvidia doesn't want to lower prices and if demand drops as well as prices, then EVGA is stuck with the loss and not Nvidia. Nvidia is being shitty, but this doesn't mean EVGA isn't. What can I say but bye EVGA, you won't be missed.

so they're just skipping the next-gen 4000 series versus permanently exiting the GPU market...they're taking a big stand against Nvidia even if it hurts their bottom line
If you watch the GN video, really sounds like they are completely getting out of GPUs...at least with nVidia, anyway.

I always preferred Asus cards but EVGA will be missed, especially with their customer service...the Step-Up program is something no other manufacturer offers

still feels like a negotiating tactic ATM
Ding ding ding. Was my first thought as well. Reading between the lines, and just devil's advocate here since EVGA is my preferred AIB brand:

EVGA was more than happy to receive all the 3000 series allocation Nvidia could pump out while the getting was good in 2021, along with all the other AIB's. In early 2022 however it became apparent that a significant contraction and squeeze was coming, so Nvidia stipulated that in order to receive 4000 series allocation, AIB's would need to continue purchasing 3000 series silicon. In April 2022, EVGA decided that that wouldn't be sustainable, and therefore they'd be sitting out 4000 series (apparently EVGA got as far as 4000 series engineering samples however).

Each company is merely acting in their own self interest, it's not that complicated. Maybe EVGA thinks they can tilt things into their favor by generating some public outcry, or maybe they'll slowly fade if they don't find other products or channels to replace the revenue to sustain their current business.

Eh, hard to say. There's a decent amount of people that use EVGA as their reason to buy Nvidia cards. Will they switch to a different partner? Maybe. They might just skip out or head over to AMD.

people will just switch over to a different Nvidia AIB partner...same as when BFG, OCZ, Hercules all left the GPU market...EVGA got most of their hype due to their Step Up Program and customer service...they didn't usually offer the best performing cards

Time will tell. EVGA had some serious consumer pull.

EVGA has definitely had their issues over the years (everyone has unfortunately) but there is not one single other GPU manufacturer in the market that matches their customer support. This is a HUGE loss for consumers.

plus eth going proof of stake?

still feels like a negotiating tactic ATM

otherwise it's seppuku

If it’s as unprofitable as has been said and if the relationship has been that bad, it’s probably not a negotiation tactic. Nvidia doesn’t care about their relationships with other companies enough to be swayed by threats to leave the market. They will still sell every single chip they produce and they will simply allocate amounts differently. EVGA really has no leg to stand on if they were trying to make threats.

Wasn't their Kingpin series one of the best?

This sucks, they were my fist pick for GPUs. Can’t see them surviving on PSUs and random accessories alone so this doesn’t really make sense.

I would say MSI since I had a good RMA experience with them the one time I had to use it. Then again I don't like the shady stuff MSI been doing and they are typically the most expensive. Asus and other have terrible customer service.
I hesitate to recommend Gigabyte because they're the most failure-prone in my limited experience but I've never had a problem with their support. Once they finally started taking requests to replace the Z690I Ultra, they processed my claim fast. I also just opened a support ticket for an RX 6800 that's been crashing repeatedly, and they approved it in less than the estimated time (1 day or so vs 2 days.)

Oh, and as I said in GenMay, I just found out that if you send their product support site a "forgot password" request, they'll just email you your account name and password, so you don't have to reset it. So helpful!

Honestly, it may not be a bad time to get out. With the way technology and the world is right now - I don't blame the CEO for saying 'fuck it'.

Reality is that all of their manufacturing which is based in Taiwan - Will be absorbed by China before the end of the decade anyways. Only way to survive as a US based manufacturer is going to be building manufacturing in the US, which is an expensive proposition.

Same, just switched to buying mostly from them these past 1-2 years due to CS and bucks program/queue.

On the other hand, is that really worse than:

"Password incorrect. Please try again."

"Password incorrect. Please try again."

"Password incorrect. Your account has been locked, please reset your password."

"You may not use the same password as your old password."

I wonder what will happen in 9 years if my GPU has an issue and is still under the 10 year... do they throw EVGA merch and keyboards at me?
What 10 year warranty are you talking about?

No company in the GPU biz had the rep EVGA did. Easily the best customer service in the industry. The air is salty around here.

Huh.

That's surprising.

I've always considered EVGA to be one of the premiere Nvidia AIB's, and I thought that Nvidia GPU's was a good chunk of their business.

I haven't viewed the videos yet, because I ahvent been in a good setting to have audio enabled yet today (which is why I am and always will be a "written article" guy but I wonder what precipitated this.

*shrug* I mean, it probably is, yeah, but at the end of the day if the password used there is unique, and they don't have my credit card #, I guess I don't care. It's just cringy.

Yup. Even though my only EVGA product is my psu and I've never owned a GPU from them, it's impossible to miss that the EVGA brand has influenced a lot of gpu purchases.

Damn, eVGA was an awesome video card company. I knew that even if the card went bad, they would make it right. Sad.

Wow.....I always went EVGA on all my Nvidia cards......damn I honestly have to hesitate on my next purchase as I am not a fan of Asus and MSI GPU's......Gigabyte? Yeah fuck them lol

Hopefully they'd refund your purchase price... I missed getting the 10 year warranty, personally.

This stinks, I've bought evga cards since the 7900gt :(. They were my go to brand.

This is insane. I wonder could this be a feint or a negotiation tactic of sorts by eVGA? This kind of news would be like Microsoft coming out and announcing that windows won't support PC's anymore. Honestly, if a CEO in any sane company made this decision they wouldn't be CEO for long. I mean, I know that eVGA is now into PSU's and other markets but NVidia GPU's are still their core business. 15 years ago, NVidia GPU's was virtually all eVGA was known for. To completely abandon your routes like that is absolutely not a good sign for a corporation, especially if it still accounts for a majority of your revenue.

I have had great experiences with eVGA GPU's. Back in the days when we had ATI Radeons made and sold directly by ATI, eVGA was the closest you could get to a default factory NVidia card. I never really cared for the heavy customization that most OEMs do to their video cards and I have had nothing but amazing experiences with my eVGA cards, especially compared to the other cards that I owned. It will be really sad to see them exit this market.

Tbh, it is funny watching EVGA only buyers freak out over actually having to consider another brand.

Brand loyalty is a helluva drug.
I'm not looking for the best of the best. I'm looking for pretty good and easy to deal with. It's like any relationship, you have to live with it, even if it's not on the cover or in the middle of the big magazines.
