It will likely come with standard size adapters/cables so not sure why that matters too much, way late to the party though, Dell captured all the momentum early on.

I wonder how removing the Gsync module impact performance. More flickering, 10bit and 175hz at the same time?

I don't really think its late to the party. There seem to be a lot of people who have been waiting on this to avoid the Gsync module and fans.

Yeah I really don't understand this decision. I hope it at least comes with the adapters required but neither of those ports I've seen in a long time and I imagine the available micro HDMI 2.1 adapters would be few. It's like somebody said "this must be this thin!" and then they reluctantly designed around that premise considering the ports poke out horizontally instead of the usual vertical orientation.

As for late to the party, not at all. The Dell is a shitshow of poorly packaged units and non-upgradeable firmware requiring RMA to update.

And the samsung will likely come with only a 1 year warranty period like all of their other displays...

Thankfully Samsung's explicit warranty means fuck all in countries with decent consumer protection....they do make it a fucking pain in the arse to get things replaced or repaired out of warranty in the hope they can wear out consumers into paying or giving up.

Merica has no such protections....

Wait... Really?? who the hell uses mini-ports in 202X?

Micro HDMI is fragile, and introducing another avenue of potential failure (an adapter) isn't a solution for me. I disagree with their decision on these ports, and elect to take my money elsewhere. Simple as that.
Yeah I agree. Potential failure of a $3 adapter and the fragility of micro HDMI are deal breakers. I dont think the adapter or cable will survive my ascent up Everest so it sitting on a desk is a no go.

it is my personal preference, resorting to childish sarcasm about my preference isn't going to change my mind.
edit: although it will succeed in getting me to put people on ignore.

Not to mention it just means you’ll get the Alienware. It’s not like this monitor is the only one if it’s kind…

I would be interested in this monitor given the benefits of no fan noise and HDMI 2.1. My main concern would be performance w/o the G-sync module, text clarity and general desktop performance, and peak brightness. If it could be had for <$1000 that would be sweet.

Super interested in how the same panel performs with Samsung vs Dell vs MSI when they finally all release. Haven't heard anything about MSI variant in a while

I got to Demo the Odyssey Arc 55inch today.

This ridiculous thing.

It was pretty fucking sweet, but the software, while insanely impressive when it worked. Needs a bit of work.

I only played Forza Horizon 5 and I have no idea what hardware was in the PC that was connected to the panel, but it was a rock solid 4k@165hz that filled my entire field of vision and damn it was cool.

I can't afford to spend $3500 on one, but I'm sure someone can.

I just found a crazy sale on the Samsung OLED G8 for Black Friday. So i decided to take a risk on this monitor despite the weird connection choices. Surely they will include the necessary cables right?

I'll report more once it gets here. My current daily driver is the Alienware 120hz AW3418DW. I always wanted to check out the hype of OLED so at this pricepoint I couldn't resist. The Samsung OLED G8 will have a tough job displacing the Alienware but hopefully it's a positive experience!

I finally got the monitor in and boy does this monitor feel like a dream! It replaced a 34" Ultrawide Dell Alienware 3418DW IPS display. The difference in the slimness of the bezel and the box were just amazing to me. The display really does give you true inky blacks and feels super responsive in games, even better than the 120 hz IPS that it replaced.

Well time for pictures.

This was the box, parts, and accessories. Very notably it DOES come included with the miniDisplayPort cable so I didn't have to buy anything to get it working out of the box!

You can also set it up using either the included remote or set it up by downloading the app directly to your smartphone. I chose to go with the latter option.

The finish of the paint matches the silver base which is mercifully compact. This saved me a lot of desktop space compared to the Alienware.

On the stand you only get tilt and height adjustment. No swivel, but this feels acceptable for my everyday usage. There is a cable management hole which I eventually used to tidy up the look/hide the display and power cables.

There is a very thin silver frame to the outside of the front bezel that I don't prefer. I wish that part was black, but it doesn't really detract from my viewing pleasure. Once the action begins my eyes are focused on the screen instead.

I am thankful that the vertical inside facing part of the base is black plastic which actually works nicely to avoid drawing attention to itself.

Ok now for side by side visual comparison purposes I have a 32" Viewsonic Elite XG320Q which uses FRC to reach 10 bit color for its 16:9 2560x1440 IPS display with 165hz refresh rate.

As for as richness of color it's very hard to notice the difference as both are displaying 10 bit 1 billion colors. I will say if you focus on the dark areas of the OLED vs the same areas on the IPS you'll notice some small differences.

I only really 'felt' these diferences in games in situations of dark areas. I didn't lose any details in dark areas with the OLED display.

The Samsung G8 did feel significantly more responsive to my previous Alienware 34" IPS in games like EverSpace2.

Overall I feel like my immersion and responsiveness in games increased with the OLED panel.

BTW the text fringing isse with QD-OLEDs does exist but I haven't used any software to 'fix it' because it apparently does not help browser or productivity sofware text rendering so what's the point? I'll need to wait for Microsoft to fix this in the OS.

As far as connectivity everything works fine. If you want to do sound output for this display you need to use a separate micro HDMI cable, a USB C cable, or you can use the bluetooth which I did to connect with my stereo system amplifier.

This monitor can be found on sale on Amazon for $899 currently.

Like I said above, I jumped on a special Black Friday sale to get this display brand new for $649 so for that price I'm very happy with my purchase. If you can find additional discounts on this monitor I would 100% recommend.

The build quality is exceptional, it feels sleek, futuristic, the stand footprint is very small, and the extra smart tv functions and the remote for this monitor are just icing on the cake.
