RTX 4xxx / RX 7xxx speculation

Not delayed but scalped for maybe two years so in 2024 after going to the EVGA que site 450 times you might be able to get one.

Fucksake stop falling for every bait youtube vid and "win a free ipad" popup for that matter.

Remember kids, if the guy in the youtube thumbnail is making a dumb face, he's got nothing of value and needs baseball batting.

This include gamers nexus? Half their thumbnails also have dumb faces as well. And will I believe Steve is more unbiased than most, he is not completely unbiased and his rants and jabs have gotten more and more annoying as of late.

I like the guy cause hes not all reviewer happy just talks about card availability he lives next to a Microcenter. His face is about GPU excitement a rare find in this day. He prob uses his YouTube revenue to buy those dual 3090tis.

The issue I've had with his videos is that he takes 25 minutes to share 3 minutes of content. He hits on something, then repeats it over and over and over ad nauseam. Before I gave up and wrote him off, I'd gotten into the habit of immediately skipping to the 2nd half of his videos knowing that anything he said in the first half he'd be repeating at least a few more times anyway.

That's my issue with the general move from print/text reviews to videos. 20 minutes of BS for what could be expressed (better and more in depth) in three paragraphs. It's a giant waste of my time, not to mention the ridiculous thumbnails and 80s radio DJ malarkey.

80s radio DJ malarkey.
Hey we could have fun with that. Grab a fake southern accent and call up Newegg...

"Now listen, this here is Roy D. Mercer, and I bought one of ya'lls graphic cards and we got ourselves a bit of a problem here. I'm gonna need about $2000, or someone's gonna get their ass whupped!"

From what I have read, youtubers get higher levels of payment if their videos are over 10 minutes, or 20 minutes, going up in 10 minute intervals. So they have an incentive to blabber on, as it means longer views for youtube's algorithm.

Yup, this is the main reason. Maybe there is a market for 60 second TikTok Gpu reviews.

What is Google's meeting best practices again? If you can't get your point across, and have time for follow up questions in 5 minutes or less, then your meeting is too long.

10-4 there. HardOCP I do not ever recall any speculation for unlaunched products unless the company put out some sort of information dealing with upcoming stuff but then no or very little speculation was ever attached to it. Just the facts I recall. You got real Hard reviews or facts when real Hardware was tested. Not endless changing speculations of upcoming products with endless opinions on vapor. Looks like YouTube and others just stole away ad revenue for the much more accurate journalism standard of yesteryear for tech.

Yep, not to bash but I really laughed at Steve at Gamer's Nexus with some of their expensive test equipment, a.k.a one for fans -> Seriously something I would say can be done with a smoke machine which much easier way to video flow, plus we used airstream velocity to determine accurate volumetric flowrates, I have this:

Then to beg the question, what is the point and how boring do you really want to make it for your viewers? Typically I want to know does it works, flow rate for given static pressure (fan curve) which can also be easily done with a water tube and above flow meter, noise and build quality of a fan. Period -> 5 min of information max. More useful information is how much air flow in a case resulting in what GPU temperature differences, something useful in other words.

Then Linux and his new test facility, then came out with basically an advertisement for Samsung Neo G8 which I cannot find the video anymore???? Appears to be pulled. Basically just read the brochure or the take at Samsung in 3min for same end result. No real testing done. Are these guys finding their new unwise testing facilities costing way more than they expected and thus being pushed to compromised their testing in exact opposite of them building and expanding their testing in the first place?

This is a speculation thread after all so the low value chatter/videos are ever present.

I understand and have sympathie for those youtube became a giant part when not all of their income to create a bit too much and too long of content (market force did push them toward video with sponsors and me always with an ads blocker that stopped to buy magazine participated directly to that), but if you hesitate most of the time to put timetag in your 9:00 minutes video because people could just read the title of your 5 tips for X in 20 s or just watch 72 second of the 9 minutes video it is a sign.

Question I keep wondering is; with the mining market currently in the toilet, and IF the new series of GPUs get released during this low point in crypto prices, can we expect AIBs to sell the new 4000/7000 series of cards for significantly lower prices then the 3000/6000 series of cards at their peak price?
I know that high peak prices of the 3000/6000 series of cards were due to massive supply and demand (due to mining), however....AIBs got a taste of massive margins, and prices for anything after a large spike just seem to never fully go back to what they once were after the spike has reduced.
Nvidia/AMD will announce their...somewhat reasonable MSRP prices for the 4000/7000 series of cards, will AIBs (and Nvidia/AMD for that matter) stick with those MSRPs at launch this time around, or are consumers going to get shafted again?

Eh people said the same thing when Turing was released. They were proven wrong when the 30 series released at much lower price points.

This one made no sense to me either. Why would they spend so much money buying a test facility when their whole channel is aimed around dumbass ideas, lowest common denominator stuff, and overall marketing/sponsored content that would really run counter and pose as a conflict of interest to a proper testing lab.

Except 30-series wasn't really lower price points when you compare apples to apples.

What was the 3080? Well Nvidia kept comparing it to the 2080, not the 2080 Ti, so I posit it is the 2080 replacement. So what was the 2080 Ti replacement? Well that was the 3090. Despite marketing rhetoric, it definitely was NOT a Titan. So just comparing MSRP's here, 2080Ti was $1200 and the 3090 was $1500. So that was a gen on gen $300 increase. Obviously the 3080 Ti came later, but we all know that that was just a cash grab card from Nvidia. That wasn't the 2080 Ti replacement.

OK, let's look at the rest of the stack. RTX 2080? $699 MSRP for non FE cards. So sure, maybe was always more than that in the wild, but I mean, so was the 3080?

OK, how about 2070? $499 MSRP for non FE models. OK, again, might have been more in the wild. But again, what was the 3070 in the wild?

How about 2060? $349 MSRP. 3060? $329 MSRP. OK, this one had a slight reduction.

People kept saying the 30-series was released at much lower price points, but that's just not really true comparing MSRPs, and then when comparing what the costs were for both in the wild, they were both definitely more than MSRP. 30-series for obvious reasons, but 20-series was also always usually higher than MSRP.

I doubt it. More likely, the people that paid top dollar for the current generation of cards will buy up the next gen parts, and the current gen will hit the used market for cheap. Neither AMD nor Nvidia will release lower-end desktop parts until the used market starts drying up.

They're going to beg us to buy this stuff:

"Mercury Research says desktop CPU shipments during the May to June period fell to their “lowest level in nearly three decades," decreasing by more than 15% year over year."

Considering:

It must have been really common for a quarter to be the lowest one since X, late 2020-2021 was an exception for the Desktop side (which could explain in part the supply madness not only a sudden growth but a sudden giant growth when the usual decline was expected), desktop PC sales have been declining every single year since at least 2010 I think.

Yeah 2021 was the Covid/WFH boom and should be considered a small aberration in the overall trend. Much like the huge increase in peloton bikes that has since come back to earth.

lol if the specs are still changing we're, what, months out from launch? There should be leaked box photos at this point, GPU-Z screens, 3dmark runs, etc.
Cause everything is a rumor. Who is to say that Nvidia hasn't been feeding these people bogus details for the past year? Everyone keeps expecting the 4080 to be a 600w card which I always found ridiculous. Those specs just above look to be the most realistic.

Exactly my thought.

Scalpers are just going to ruin it doesn't even matter.
Seems unlikely to me. Nvidia is worried they have too much 3000 supplies sitting around. Rumored that AMD and Nvidia are cutting 7nm/6nm/5nm orders. TSMC won't be constrained. Miner cards begin appearing on ebay. Too much supply is usually not a recipe for Scalpers.

But i'm certainly not an economist, so who knows!

There are also rumours that Nvidia restarted 3080 production, I doubt that is due to too much stock.
The rumor is that they binned down the higher-end GA102's into 3080's to get rid of them faster.

NVIDIA can make RTX 3080 12GB cards regardless if the GA102 inventory has enough suitable chips or not. We have seen this many times, when the company repurposed its higher-end GPUs for other models, simply to continue the production of more affordable SKUs. This may lead to lower profits, but NVIDIA will get rid of the GA102 stock one way or the other.

yeah for the minor bump in camera spec, rounded edges, all glass design, word sheeple exists for such people.im happy with my S20 Ultra went from a Nexus 6 i held onto until it died a very slow death. ill wait till there is a rdna 2 gpu in the next phone before upgrading.
Totally agree, it’s a phone, if it can make calls I’m happy. My iPhone 5 lasted me until 2021 so I bought an iPhone 12 mini. I’ll be holding onto the 12 until it no longer functions properly in 7 or so years.

I went for the same card, from what I heard from US sources, EVGA also sells pretty cheap via their own website in the US, on the European version of their site however they still are expensiove as hell.

I could also have linked an EVGA Kingpin card priced at over 6000€ but that one was not in stock at all and rare to begin with.

Also there is no currency difference atm, 1€ = 1$

Bottom line, unless you're actively trying to get yourself ripped off, the pricing of these cards does not suggest a supply shortage.

Wasn't going to upgrade but I think my 3090 strix is broken so guess I am going to be in the market for a 4090 as long as it will fit in an ITX case and a SFX psu can run it.

Lovelace news @ GTC September 20th.

"In Gaming, our partners and ecosystem are responding to a sudden slowdown in consumer demand and correcting channel inventory. Still, the fundamentals of gaming are strong. We’ll get through this over the next few months and go into next year with our new architecture. I look forward to telling you more about it at GTC next month."

What leather mud and lies? They made billions from cryptominers and gamers.
Naturally, it had to stop a bit when cryptocurrencies fell.
How long has the rtx 3000 series been current? 2020.
If they don't offer a huge jump compared to the rtx 3000 series then it won't be anything.
And it seems that they will adjust the rtx 4060 to be like the rtx 3080, which would be fine only if the price is much lower than the rtx 3080,twice as small.
And the question is what amd will offer, but it is possible that amd and nvidia will agree again(that their performance is again similar and the prices are inflated), that's why both are delaying for more than 2 years.
