Forza Horizon 5 (Mexico)

Game crashes by the second fly-by of the jet for hot wheels intro race. The massive amount of stability and technical issues FH5 has had from the start killed my enthusiasm for the game, sadly.
Set your Shader Quality to match Environment Texture Quality.

We’re aware of a crash to desktop on the PC version of Forza Horizon 5 in certain locations including the Hot Wheels Expedition. This occurs if the “Shader Quality” is set to Ultra or higher while the “Environment Texture Quality” is High or below.

As we develop a fix for this incompatibility, we recommend ensuring that “Shader Quality” is Ultra or Extreme, only if “Environment Texture Quality” is also set to Ultra or Extreme.

For the Gamepass folks that have never played Forza Horizon 4 (not 5) - give it a go. On my machine it looks and runs basically the same. Things are a little less cluttered with cameras/signs/challenges/etc. but it's otherwise just like playing 5 in a totally new setting.

I love these new features but I hate that it comes 12+ months after release when most people will have already finished the game...same with Doom Eternal ray-tracing support (1 year later), Elden Ring ray-tracing (10+ months later), Cyberpunk 2077 Enhanced ray-tracing Overdrive mode (2+ years later), Plague Tale: Requiem ray-tracing (coming soon)

I'm really interested in seeing the visuals with RT Extreme settings...should be stunning!

Q: What are the differences between each of the ray tracing options in Forza Horizon 5?

The Medium and High settings function as before, with ray tracing exclusively rendering in Forzavista...Meanwhile, the Ultra and Extreme options expand ray tracing to Photo Mode, Free Roam and Races...Some ray tracing settings and scenarios will render reflections at half resolution, while others render at full resolution. Please refer to the table below for the breakdown on a per-setting, per-scenario basis:

Uhhh are you gonna notice RT at 200mph? lol It's cool for photos or maybe replays but in gameplay with this style of game idk. Currently I can do 4K HDR Maxed (no motion blur) at 120hz VRR and it's smooth af. Don't really see a benefit outside photos I guess.

you can say the same for RT with any game...will it matter in Flight Simulator 2020, Elden Ring, Doom Eternal etc?...improved image quality is always a good thing especially when a game already looks pretty close to photorealistic like Forza Horizon 5

Don't get me wrong I like RT and welcome it. Just amusing to me of driving fast in the game while trying to pay attention to real time reflections that's all. Tho I did stop an admire the RT in Doom Eternal.. gotta take a breather before the next battle.

Reflections are the least important thing to me in ray tracing, and it's the only thing they're implementing in this game.

RT reflections are more important in a racing game because of all the reflective surfaces...would have been ideal if they added it to the AI cars in the actual races versus just in Photo Mode but I'm guessing would have been too resource intensive...normally for me the most important RT feature is global illumination

I'm totally down for some rally action. I absolutely loved those early Colin McRae/Dirt Rally games. Combine that with Forza Horizon 5, and that seems like a huge win IMO.

So they added rally to a game that had rally. Looked like most of the cars were already in the game as well. So whats the deal here? Is the map different? Seems very fluff.

So I just fired this game up for the first time in a long time, wanted to check out the stuff they added like ray tracing, dlss etc and also check out how the 4090 I got last week does in this game. I'm getting constant 120fps on the benchmark, thinking everything is great, then when I start driving around the game world I'm having a "low streaming bandwidth" message pop up. It's giving me flashbacks to forza horizon 3 that had a similar problem at launch, I don't get it. It's not even pushing the card to the max.

Could be an I/O issue too.

Ja, low streaming bandwidth is indicative of data transfer between storage and memory being slow. If the game is already installed on a SSD and you have no memory issues I'd try reinstalling the game.

So we just started playing this one this week. When we drive around we dont see each other, but see plenty of other people. What is with that??

if you just started, i think theres a certain point in the story line where the "drivatars" change to actual players. I cant remember how far into it tho.

Yes, if I remember correctly you have to unlock your first festival site before online mode is unlocked. The game forces you to do some events which constitute the tutorial.

Not sure if it was ever shown but i didnt see it but it was released 6 days ago. Phoning it in big time.

Eh the new expansion is... fine, I guess. The map is tiny, and feels very same-y to the main game, but there are some unique areas that certainly can look cool, but honestly, at the speeds you're generally traveling through it, it's hard to notice. Sure, there's a rock quarry, a dam area, and a bit of a canyon. There are some new cars, sure. The "rally" aspect is disappointing, but then again, this was never going to be a Dirt Rally competitor. But it's so far from it- the pace notes are generally late and absurdly vague (the use of hard/medium/light for turns). Add to that each new event is meant to be run twice- once in "rally" and once as a normal race (with other cars)- and it gets tired very quick.

And now that I think of it - in the rally mode, cars are set to go immediately before and after you, but you never run into any (in Dirt I thought it was possible to catch up to the car in front... but maybe not in Dirt Rally 2?). The "co-driver" in the helicopter is fine, but the dust that gets kicked up is sometimes a hindrance to visibility... unless you just use the minimap and the racing line, which severely minimizes the point of pace notes? Rallying in general, is a timed affair, but instead of telling you anywhere in the HUD how you are doing, all you get are snapshots as you pass through certain special checkpoints- so before and after those checkpoints, you have no actual idea how slow or fast you are going.

The "campaign" itself features a contrived plot that I guess gates you through a progression through three "teams" which are intended to separate styles that are not unique enough- one is more dirt racing, one is more street, and the last one is mostly at night. I think this might be a bit better of a system than the main game, but I found it just stretches the gameplay much longer than it should be- by hiding things like speed traps, danger signs, and drift zones until you progress to a certain rank (of course they are under separate teams' ranks). There are cars and cosmetics (for your avatar, right, that's still a thing in this game) but since this expansion is coming so late, there's a good chance most players have so many cars to choose from already-

Which is its own problem. While you are "suggested" certain vehicles to use per event, there's simultaneously no reason to follow their recommendations (which sometimes truly suck) nor any real restriction (aside from certain teams asking you to use an S1/S2 or whatever). This leads to some absolutely stupid races- you can use a car with no ground clearance for sand dune racing, or a lifted truck on a mostly street track. While this is "user error" it exposes the junk food of being able to choose any car for any event, at any car level (including street tires, etc.).

That this update comes so late in the game's lifecycle is confusing- who is this for? It really felt like the general population playing this game got severely burned out much faster than previous Forza Horizons, so who's left playing this game long enough to appreciate this release? It's more Horizon, which I guess is fine, but it misses so severely a chance at a "new" take and falls into the same pitfalls as the main game- you're doing the same events (danger signs, drift zones, speed traps, and "races").

they really need to completely rethink this series. unfortunately the graphics and initial wow factor consistently bring them a decent amount of sales (it's not like people can refund their $60-$100 purchases 45 days down the line when they realize the game is shallow as all hell) so i'm sure the next game will follow the exact same tired, monotonous pattern.

I mean, that's how modern big-budget devs think: This ONE THING sold a lot ONCE. Lets DO THE EXACT SAME THING AGAIN AND AGAIN AS HARD AS WE CAN FOREVER.

Call of Duty, Assasin's creed, Forza Horizon, Far Cry, I'm sure there are plenty more that I'm forgetting.

it's a racing game...not much they can really do to change the formula except for adding new locations/cars

Idk. Really wish these games had a stronger sense of progression. Miss the days of ps2 GT3 and scrounging up every dollar to upgrade the stock pt cruiser/ miata, steadily working up the ranks, etc.

Played some fh4 for a while but got bored. Never touched fh5. Give me more game, less sandbox.

Sounds like you want FH1 or FH2. FH3 is when they went the sandbox direction. 1 & 2 are much more linear. Unfortunately they are both console only and can no longer be purchased new.

i really recommend you (or anyone else who think racing games can only be about driving around defined circuits as fast as possible to see who can finish first) watch this video, Raycevick lays out pretty much exactly how i also feel about the racing game genre and why it's so stale:
