Steam Deck officially announced by Valve

Man I'm still waiting to get mine. It says I'll get it between July and September.

The external heatsink is stupid. I would have machined fins into the mounting plate they used for it.

Hi! You must be new to LTT.
Lol no, I've seen his videos since the beginning. It seems like they go through waves of decent content and crap content. Also his new hair cut is stupid. When he grew the beard he somewhat seemed like a man.... the hair kills it now though lol.
I just find it off putting that a guy nearly my age acts so immature. I guess it works with the younger audience though, he seems a lot more normal on his podcast though.

The heat sink mod is not impossible to do practically though. I have a 3d printer sized cnc router that is "supposed" to be able to cut aluminum.

If I were going to do it. I would get a spare back case and cut it out to fit a 1/4" thick aluminum plate with fins machined into it Have it run left to right over 3/4 of the back area of the device. Mill out the center for a low profile fan and but a plate on top of the heatsink to cap it off and force air flow and have vents on both ends to exhaust hot air.

Not to scale, because I just grabbed a random fan off grab cad, but it wouldn't matter anyway. You would need to mod it to raise tdp to get any use out of it.

Edit: Joke aside, I have to give Linus credit since for all you can like or dislike about him and his show - he does seem to be a consumer advocate and is vocal about business practices that abuse gamers / pc hardware consumers. He has a big enough platform that the message can be heard loud and clear (even if a little high pitched). :D

I've never had an issue with his channels/content. I think his broadcast persona is pretty good compared to when he started as a retail voicebox for NCIX. I'm still entertained by his masterful seques into advertising content. I've worked with 20-year broadcasting professionals that can't transition as smoothly as he can.

Yeah, I don't mind Linus either - his videos are mostly entertaining marketing fluff pieces, however he has helped out smaller Youtubers when they're getting squeezed by companies (the HUB vs Nvidia incident being the one I remember most recently). His voice I don't mind either, because I'm also a Rush fan.

Jayz2cents, though - there's something off with that guy. Not sure if it's because the way he complains constantly on Twitter (whether its fans bugging him for asking questions about his contests, people complaining about his 'clickbait' titles, or him complaining that certain subjects don't get enough views) or his video content lately has been opinion pieces/rehashes of what other channels are doing (just with less technical information). Oh, and I remember him getting into it with Old Bennett over something (I think it was over EK shenanigans). I didn't like how Jayz and his fellow Youtuber/fanbase dogpiled on poor old Bennett.

Finally got my email - July 19, 2021 to Aug 1, 2022. Might have it by the end of the week.
Lucky!

I ordered it the day it was announced. Still just shows I'll get it this quarter.

I reserved the 64 GB when the queue opened on July 17 last year, then a couple days later found out about the 2230 SSD. The options for that form factor sucked last year, and still suck today. (Micron announced a 2TB 2230 months ago, but it still isn't available.)

When I saw that, I cancelled and reserved the 512GB. I finally got my email Aug 1, shipped Aug 5, received Aug 9.

I've been playing some Civ V and VI, getting used to the controls. I've always been hardcore KB/mouse, but that would kind of defeat the purpose of the Deck.

I've found that the default joystick settings are a little under-sensitive.

For Civ, I reduced the sensitivity of the right trackpad and stick that both control the mouse pointer. The left stick that scrolls around the map is fine for me. It's very nice that controller settings are per game and not global.

Had it for a bit. My main gripe is the size. Horizontally it seem disproportionate to the screen. Overall width is Screen Width x2. The pictures lie. Needs to be about 30% less wide.

Do you have small hands? Because the size is one of the things I like about. I can’t actually play on other handhelds. They make my hands cramp in 10 minutes or less.

There's some horizontal real estate it could give up without giving that up. It's literally the width of a laptop.

I just checked on mine. Holding it makes my thumbs naturally align and center on the joysticks. Moving them down or right induces tendon strain.

You could maybe shrink the bezels and save an inch. I know what you mean though. The thing as almost as wide as my MacBook Pro 14.

My only ergonomic complaint is that the shoulder buttons, L1&R1 felt awkward initially and still don’t feel great to use quickly in a fps. You can rebind to the back, but those are kind of awkward too. I like to put less used things on those.

My shoulders are kind of wide so I actually like the width, don't feel like I am scrunching my arms in to hold it.

I agree that pressing the shoulder buttons during gameplay feels a bit awkward so far, though maybe I just need to get used to it. My fingers want to be where the triggers are.

And I've never used a controller with buttons on the back like that so those feel completely foreign still, I usually use the fingers in that area just for steady gripping so I find myself pressing them inadvertently

I wish my friend that had a gigantic AA battery-swilling neo geo in the early 90's didn't move away in 1998 because I'd love to hold it and the steam deck back to back with my adult hands.

It's a long wait, but worth it! This will definitely replace my switch when I'm at work.
Uh, what? I don't think you're necessarily supposed to be playing games while at work :ROFLMAO:. How on Earth do you get away with THAT?

I got lucky! I work a late shift working customer service. From 7 pm - 1 am it slows to a crawl, I get 1 - 4 calls an hour. So, while the younger kids are on their phones, I'm on my switch, soon to be steam deck.

Mine showed up today, super impressed with valve hardware as usual. Played some Fallen Order streamed from my pc and Stardew Valley installed on the deck. This thing is going to be a lot of fun
