Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

I placed my order the first week of April. My cancel button was available until the shipping date, June 21.
interesting...I might just need to talk to customer support. As soon as I think about canceling it though I get 2nd thoughts of keeping it lol but I think the C2 would be a better option for me.

What's your use case ?

90% of the time I am using it for work. This includes a lot of development. I only play \ watch movies 10% of the time. I have a pretty big recording desk that is 2 tier with a monitor arm mount. I initially got this instead of the C2 because I thought the C2 would be too big. I am now thinking that the size + 4K and the ability to push it further from my seat actually might make it a better option. I could just wait and test the alienware but the thought of sending it back and potentially paying a restock fee is making me want to cancel it.

The first one I got from dell (which I returned for scratches) had the cancel button enabled until it shipped. I have had another one on order since the end of may and the cancel button is still enabled on it. You might want to call them to see what is up with your order. There's a possibility that your order is stuck in some sort of limbo state.

I tried to cancel mine after it was delayed, but pressing the cancel button did nothing. It went into a limbo status and said it would be cancelled after 4 days, but ended up shipping anyway, 2 weeks later. At that point I asked Dell WTF was going on and then had FedEx return the package to Dell. Took them almost a month to refund my money... AFTER the package was returned to Dell.

Thanks I'll give that a try. Essential just try to tilt it to the right with enough force that it becomes unstuck?
Yeah, that worked in my case. Mine was very tilted though so yours being only slightly tilted could be something else. Just don't apply too much force to be safe.

I talked to Dell and they said they cannot cancel it. They did tell me that they can submit a request to have it sent back to Dell once it shipped. They told me that my card would still be charged and it could be 15 business days before I got a refund. Because of this and the fact that I have been waiting this long, I decided to keep the monitor. I am going to try it and if I don't like it I can send it back. I think I owe it to myself to at least see if it will work for me.

Yeah, that was exactly what happened to me. With that known hassle, you're absolutely right, just get it delivered and try it out. If you don't like it for whatever reason, deal with the return at that time.

Well my monitor shipped. Even though I have had 2nd thoughts of wanting the LG C2 instead of this, I am hopeful this does everything that I want. I am coming from a 30” HP IPS 2560x1600. I am hoping that I don’t miss that 2.5” of vertical space.

Monitor came in today. I haven't done any tweaking other than turning it on. The thing that stood out to me is how blurry text looks vs my old IPS. I tried to adjust cleartype but it didn't make much of a difference. Does anyone have any recommendations on making text look clear?

Size wise I don't miss that extra 2.5" vertical space. In fact I think it is better because I can push it closer to where I am sitting and I don't have to adjust my neck looking up.

I could never accept the text no matter what I tried with better cleartype tuner including the RGB values or whatever. Just keep using it and see if your eyes adjust.

I think my eyes can adjust. I will use it for a couple of weeks and see how I like it.

Do you use it with a side monitor or solo ? You should be able to ajust if its solo, else you probably won't. Everytime I looked at one of my side screens than came back to the AW3423DW, the blurry text stood out.

I use it solo. I think the softness of the screen which others have pointed out is what makes the text seem blurry. I worked all day on my IPS and then tried this monitor.

Let us know how you feel about it in a few days/weeks, it'll be interesting to see if this becomes a none issue for you.

I think I will get use to it. Just shows how good my 13 year old IPS is but it is time to upgrade. Had I not ordered this months ago I would have gotten the LG C2 instead of it (I have a big enough desk and monitor arm that supports it). I think I will be happy with the Alienware. I will give it a good 2 week trial and then make my decision. What calibration or settings is everyone using?

When I had it, I ran it in Creator mode, RGB with the Gamma set at the darkest level (2.6 I think). These might not be the best settings or most optimal settings that is. You'll have to experiment :)

I'm going to be interested to see how the softness/different pixel structure and the loss of resolution go for me. I have a 38" ultrawide IPS right now which I *love* for desktop work particularly in Nuendo. But OLED does sound much nicer for games. I have one on the way and we'll see how it goes.

I have two IPS side monitors and came from a cherry picked XR382 , the text seems barely any different to me, the perfect blacks, uniformity and one of the best HDR implementations period though made it a no brainer.

Although the text is a little softer than traditional LCD and there is a tiny bit of chromatic aberration if you are pixel peeping, I had no problem transitioning to this monitor as a coder (even using a dark theme). Maybe it's just my age. I've had to transition from green and orange screens and low res CRTs through the years to what we have today. The amount of chromatic aberration isn't any worse than the holy grail FW900 CRT IMHO.

For those with this display, does changing the Windows custom scaling (DPI) to 125% (or more) make the text fringing more tolerable? Does it reduce it by a decent amount? That's usually the scaling I use on my 34gn850-b.

I ordered one of these QDOLEDS since I recently gave up on VA for various issues, and IPS has too much glow and poor contrast. I'm a bit worried about the text though, but I figure the only way to find out it to see it in front of me.

I am getting used to the text so I don't think it will be an issue long term. I saw some posts about standby issues, I typically leave my monitor on 24/7 and turn my computer off at the end of the day. This way I just turn on the PC and the monitor comes back on. Anyways, I had no issue with the monitor going into standby after I turned the PC off and it turned back on when I powered the PC on this morning.

I am also loving the ultrawide for productivity. Although my heart was wanting the LG C2, I think I made the correct choice with the alienware since work is 90% of what I use it for.

Good stuff Arkanian! Did you have a pixel refresh happen yet ? On the old firmware, the monitor would turn itself off after a pixel refresh. It used to happen after 4 hours of using it.

It is doing a pixel refresh right now. I clicked the proceed and don’t show this message again. Is there a way for it to not do a pixel refresh unless it is in standby? How long does the pixel refresh take?

That was the first pixel refresh yes. Since you clicked the "don't show this message again", next time it will wait for the screen to go in standby mode before initiating the refresh. So next time it does it, let us know if the screen turns off afterwards. Since you leave it on 24/7, at the very least you'll know tomorrow morning.

I think its normal for it to turn off after the first refresh, since technically you manually initiated it (even though it prompt you) while the screen was not in standby mode.

Is Eco Mode on or off btw ? And what's your firmware version ?

M0B102 is the firmware. Eco Mode is On

I also love HDR in desktop mode. I turned on Auto HDR for games and played Horizon 5 and BF 2042. Both looked amazing.

My computer went to sleep and it did a pixel refresh. After that was completed it is blinking white which means it is back in standby mode. This makes me happy :)

Me too! Thx for confirming this was indeed fixed with the latest iteration. I might reorder it down the line.

anyone else getting that pixel refresh pop up every couple of days? seems mine has done 4 this month already. i use mine maybe 2-3 hrs a week if im lucky, and its just Destiny 2 and some remote work for my servers, then i shut it down and maybe turn it on 2-3 days later if get a day off.

If you set it to don't warn me again it will do the pixel refresh the next time it enters stand by after it registers 4 hours of use.

The timer on it does seem to be a little weird on it at times if you have eco mode off but 4x with the usage you listed sounds about normal.

You want to leave Eco ON (this is the default). It seems like it counts standby hours as usage hours when it is OFF. At least that is how the original firmware worked. You don't want that because that means if you use your monitor for 1 hour then shutdown your computer and come back the next day it will think you have used it for many hours and will want to do a refresh.
