Many of our readers have been waiting for OSOM, the company reformed from the ashes of an Andy Rubin-less Essential, to deliver the OV1 smartphone it's been teasing since 2020. But some key details have changed. The OV1 is now the Solana Saga, a blockchain-integrated Android flagship.

I liked the Essential 1 phone, and was intrigued and interested in this new 2nd phone, but now my interest plummeted to zero, with this change of the phone now being a Crypto blockchain Android phone. And a new strange name of the phone being called the 'Solana Saga' Uh, ok...

Agree on both points Zorachus . I loved my (cheap) Essential phone and was just about to double check the launch date for this. But never mind. Maybe the Nothing phone will be good.

As a former Essential phone owner, it's a shame the company didn't stick around long enough to warrant a 2nd phone as the phone was fine except for the camera.

Nothing isn't releasing in the US from what I've seen.

Essential phone 2 is a bust, so a [H]ard no go for me, being some crypto phone or something now.

Nothing phone is said to be for non U.S. market, and uses some older hardware, from what I've read. So that's an obvious no go.

Only the Pixel 7 / Pixel 7 Pro are the new good stock Android type phones coming this year.

Kinda sucks the Android phone scene is so limited now. Samsung Galaxy rules at the top ( I'm not a fan ). And then there's not much else besides Google Pixel line. LG is pretty much gone. HTC is gone. Motorola is kinda lame. Sony?

Sony is not Verizon compatible. Otherwise I would definitely look at them.

FWIW, The Galaxy a53 isn't a bad phone, but my wife has been having problems with it rebooting on her so I have a support ticket in and I'm sending it back to Samsung for a replacement. I like the 4 years of updates though.

Samsung is slowly moving towards Stock Andriod in there own way. Google has their own flavor. I just wish One Plus stuck to their mantra but sold out and is now just like all other Andriod makers out there which there Chinese Roots showing more in the OS :(

OnePlus peaked with the OnePlus 8 Pro in my mind. That was there last top nerd flagship phone still being the tweaked stock Android best Oxygen OS at it's pinnacle.

Then it started changing with the OnePlus 9 line, the OS getting more Oppo like and less stock geek Android.

And the OnePlus 10 line it's basically becoming just another Oppo phone, and not the OnePlus we all knew.

Don’t think there’s any disputing this. Carl Pei wouldn’t have jumped ship if he thought OnePlus was still the brand he ran for several years.

The problem, of course, is that there isn’t really a brand to fill the gap. Nothing? Too soon. ASUS? Too niche (gamers, mainly). Sony? Too expensive. So you’re likely limited to a mainstream phone from the likes of Samsung, Google or Xiaomi if you want something reasonably powerful.

My wife liked hers, I got one too (eventually), but I refused to carry it after the power management got confused and the phone was mostly off, but couldn't be turned back on until the battery fully drained. I wish you could get half decent phones with removable batteries still. It's pretty hard to screw up power management that bad when you can pull the battery, wait a minute and put it back in. Would love to see more failed attempts at flagships to buy on Fire sale though, but I guess this one isn't going to be it.
