New Samsung Odyssey G9 with MiniLED announced

LOL OMG....just played some FPS on PG32 and am already missing NEO....LOL just shoot me now.

I know. There's no one size fits all and this 3 different displays to be satisfied BS has to happen (PG32UQ brightness, OLED contrast and pixel response, Neo form factor and refresh rate).

Next year's G9 should see a resolution bump hopefully or higher brightness so it has potential to hit almost all of those characteristics.

I'm wishy washy on mine too. The resolution for games just looks so crap compared to 4K. Like games seriously look blurry to me. Also mine won't wake from sleep 25% of the time and I have to pull power so not sure if I will opt for a replacement or just get rid of it.

Sweet mother of MOSES....I have pulled it back out of the box and set it back up LMAO.....help me baby jesus I'm a sick man....that 240hz FALD....I cant get that anywhere else....

I
T-minus 1 day before you put it back in the box.

I got till Jan 16th lol

But I think I'm actually gonna keep it. Its been my go to for multiplayer FPS, which is basically the only thing I play.

240hz is super addicting on this thing with older titles like Halo MCC.
And I like the greater sense of awareness I get with the peripheral view on games like BF2042.

It fulfills a niche in between PG32 and LGC177

Yeah I didn't think it would be such a noticeable jump but 240hz looks way smoother than 120 or 144hz to me.

It's so smooth that 120hz looks choppy to me when switching to my OLED.

Ya OLED pixels are so fast, even at 120 Hz you can see the individual sample-and-hold frames. Not nearly as much blurring together of frames like 120 Hz LCD.

Thanks, I also got legal full auto machine guns, electric dirt bikes.....and chiahuahahahasss in there

Did you ever move the RealDoll to the closet like you mentioned?

How is Claire by the way?

Wait, are you talking about 4K from smaller screen sizes?

Because I was going to say, I think the 109ppi the Neo G9 has is pretty good and fairly standard these days yeah?

I don't mean in terms of PPI. I mean fidelity in games. The lower res makes aliasing and shimmering super visible to me + stuff at a distance is just a messy blur where as at 4K they are defined and much more detailed.

The best way I can describe it is with these images, yes I know it's not a 4K/1440p comparison but the idea is the same:

Games just look bad to me @ 1440p after using 4K for 4-5 years now.

Yes, this is what always annoyed me about 1440pee...even long before 4k was a thing. Jaggies, shimmering, soft blurrness to anything past 25 yards. 1440pee SUCKS, has always sucked and will continue to suck long after we are dead and gone and the rise of AI continues on mankinds journey to the stars.

The only reason NEO is still on my desk is....240hz is super addicting...the only other 240hz displays out there have shitty non fald backlights and shittier colors with shitty contrast.

Will the NEO survive my Jan 16th return date......probably not. I am waiting to see ETA one some of these newer 4k 160+ refresh rate monitors, newer OLEDs and that newer 34" oled thing...before I make final call.

If you could only have one display, I think the best gaming display is the PG32UQX despite its drawbacks....but I have no interest in buying a second one for rig #2....that is why im playing with NEO and waiting to see what else is coming before returning. I think this weekend Ill try my second rig on the C177 and see if I like that experience better than the NEO.

PG32UQX is a one trick pony that I can't even consider a gaming display because of how slow it is. Neo is a far more well rounded display as a whole but we both agree the resolution blows and so does the curve for me (way too aggressive). I have to set it back super far to make it feel like the edges aren't resting on my shoulders but when I do the center is then too far away to be comfortable for me. I've been constantly struggling with positioning it suitably.

Yeah next year has some promising stuff coming. I would buy a 32" that sacrifices a bit of brightness or FALD zones for a faster panel. It's something I could actually use for a while instead of always going back to OLED since the blacks and pixel response spoil to the point of no return. I don't think I'll be interested in that 34" UW OLED since it will be 1440p again probably. At this point it's 4K+ or nothing.

Yea Im sittin pretty far back from this thing...probably past the ideal focal point....but whatever

If samsung did a 32" 4k FALD 160hz+ version of this I'd instahh buy it.

Biggest reason for me to return this besides 1440p resolution is this monitor is not endgame enough for me and I don't want to deal with the inevitable resale hassle. Shipping costs would be a nightmare, ebay fees, worrying about shipping damage, scamming buyers, etc, etc, etc....fuck that.

Geez Laweeez....frikkin 3rd degree from RentaBuy returning this POS today!

I waffled pretty hard on this display for about a week, which I attribute to the initial WOW of the form factor....and then it just started to avalanche into a pit of disdain.

1) 1440pee I just can't do it, its too soft, fuzzy, blurry, Vaseline covered smeary turd.

2) Shitty Black Crush & fucked up Gamma. I could never get colors "correct." Like tugging on a pair of pants with one leg longer than the other....you fix something image wise and break three other things. Research online says latest firmware borked SDR gamma & local dimming. I was going to try and hold out for next firmware, but realized I'd never get past point 1 anyway.

3) HDR: HDR fucking blows on this thing. I must of being high on crack with Hunter bidens laptop when I ranked this thing as #2 HDR experience....NOPE. The longer you play with it the longer you realize black crush, shitty dim highlights....and if you have a PG32UQX and LG oled near by that doesnt help either.

4) Work Productivity: 1440pee sucks for me and work prod as you cannot fit a whole legal page comfortably on screen to read. Also gets really annoying having to drag your mouse WAAAAY over to things. Funky VA colors never feel right to me when viewing 2D content either....I hated this thing for work prod, which is what led me to packing it up initially lol.

5) Resale value: If a display is not going to be an endgame for me then resale is a strong consideration. What a nightmare this pig would be to offload.

Well that was fast. I'm waiting for a firmware update to see if my wake from sleep issue is resolved. If not, it's going back.

I'll deal with the drawbacks on the PG32uqx & C177 and wait till CES and see what else is on the horizon.

Well guys, samsung may have learnt something from the g9 and neo g9 failures and hopefully made this the end game monitor:

Doubt it. It took them 3 monitor releases and multiple firmwares to get the 32:9's working properly to start with before mini-LED. Don't forget the CHG90 and CRG9 that proceeded the G9.

Also I, and I bet others, wish this was a 21:9 instead of a 4k 16:9. This should have just been a G7 Neo.

What's the status of the G9 right now? Did Samsung address all the issues? Is it safe to buy? Just asking since Samsung dropped to price by more than half.

Nope, especially HDR is still garbage and bugged as hell.
