Resident Evil 4 (remake)

While I was excited to finally be getting more Street Fighter 6 info, THIS is the game that has me most excited. RE4 is in my all-time top 5.
I love the aesthetic choices so far, too. Honestly, my biggest fear is game length. Thus far, every game that has been on the new RE engine has been relatively short. RE4 is a massive game and it's already similar enough to the previous RE remakes that they should be able to replicate everything. I hope they don't trim the game's length due to constraints.

Pleasantly surprised to see it looks really good, though I'm disappointed that everything shown is at night and really dark. The original game starts in the late afternoon, and is quite bright. They show the start of the game in the trailer and it's already dusk.

Thinking about how the game progressed I can't really think of anything that could be "optimized." The progression and flow of the game is already perfect, so I am with you that I hope they're not cutting anything like they did with RE2 and RE3.

we all knew this was coming but still feels a bit ridiculous having this remade

unlike 2 and 3 this was already originally a third person shooter and the original isn't as dated as the original 2 and 3 were with almost isometric views and tank controls

also i still don't like non-zombie resident evil games - and while 4 was a fun game to play - it still suffers for that imo - it's also been rerelased over the years to skyrim levels - or if any title could beat skyrim for that it would be re4

that said, i enjoyed the shit out of 2 and 3 remake - and the original 3 wasn't even one of my favorite resident evil games - so there's a chance i could enjoy it surprisingly like i did with 3 remake

Would be disappointing if this is PS exclusive. Would mean PC gamers would have to wait about half a year or more.

Edit: Looks like this is coming to PC and Xbox, bu will have some exclusive content for the PS5.

Capcom is a damned if they do, damned if they don't situation.
If they remade it then they'd get people like you complaining there's not a good reason too. And if they simply ported it, others would surely complain that it has been re-released too many times.

They coulda made Resident Evil 9 or Revelations 3 or remade Code Veronica or Outbreak or so many other things before remaking OR porting Resident Evil 4 again is my point/main gripe

They didn't need to do either or, so really weren't in a damned if they do damned if they don't situation

This isn't a matter of a need for Capcom, but a matter of making money.

they coulda used the recent success both commercially and critically of 7/8/2 remake/3 remake to make money with any of the suggestions I listed or whatever else, bit of blowing your load upfront with all the remakes - and all the most anticipated ones at that - all coming out so close together too imo

this feels like on par with if their next game was now a 2nd remake of the first resident evil or something, like chill capcom, chill

RE4 is a clear precursor to the newer games, but it IS still a little dated in terms of mechanics and graphics. Even with all of the various remasters and fan patches, it looks and plays like a game that came out more than a decade ago. Try it. You'll eventually get used to it, but there's no mistaking that it's an older game.
It's a title that has sold a boatload of copies over the years and the other remakes have, too...so why not? Unless they totally screw the pooch, people are going to buy it. Even if they're totally re-creating an existing game, it's still easier than starting from scratch. Capcom has multiple teams working on multiple games, so it's not like the team working on this = specifically taking away from RE9 or Village DLC. I say let it roll. They can remake 5 so that it's actually decent while they're at it. 6 is probably where the remakes will end. If you play it with the details/res cranked, it's akin to a new game you'd buy today.

yeah re4 still had some tank control dna in it iirc in its over the shoulder control

i mean, like i said, this was a horribly kept secret, we all knew it was coming

at least now it's getting released, can rip that band aid off and move past it at least for me, move onto what's next from here

outbreak is rumored to be getting a remake, and again, i think it's a little too much with all the remakes so close together, but that's something to look forward to imo

I'd like to see a remake of RE1 and RE Zero. I know RE1 already had a remake back in 2002 or something, but they may as well remake it again for those of us that never played it. Code Veronica also seems to have been popular so maybe that is worth doing a remake of.

I'd complain about re1 getting remade again, but at the same time I'd probably buy it day 1 to see the mansion in a new coat of paint

It seems like they're just retreading and remaking the past franchise titles anyway for the next few years so who knows where the remakes will stop, along with a new entry every couple of releases

Probably a mix of cleaning up the story/lore moving forward plus a quick easy fix to keep releasing resident evil titles annually for that quarterly profit

REmake is fine. RE0 I agree could do with a remake. The progression is lopsided and the balance is all sorts of fucked up. I enjoyed the story and characters, though.

There are also many people who never played the originals and don't plan to, like myself. But I'd certainly be interested in more remakes. RE7, Village, RE2 and RE3 Remakes were all good. RE4 Remake and the eventual RE9 are something I'd play, as well as other older games remade with modern technology.

I'd absolutely be down for a remake of the first game, although it would probably end up being short or very different. Most of the difficulty (and scares) from the first game had to do with the wonky ass camera angles and shooting. With control over the camera + aiming, the game would end up being pretty different. Since they've nearly caught up to the "modern" RE games, a remake of the first game could be a grand restart for the whole series.

I absolutely can’t wait! I can play RE4 over and over and over. I honestly want it to be the exact same but with a fresh look.

They better keep the lasers on the guns, that’s my biggest complaint about the new ones, that dumb crosshair.

The merchant is absolutely essential to RE4. In general, there are a ton of elements I hope they don't mess with. The game isn't quite perfect (everything about Ashley was ridiculous), but it's pretty close IMO.

Along with some additional footage from the Village DLC (which will be out next week), there's a lot of new RE4 remake footage here. So far I think it looks absolutely amazing. I just hope the game isn't short like all the other recent RE titles have been.

Because non-zombie RE games are second class citizens to me, I'mma hold off on getting 4 and get 8 with 3rd person mode on sale and play that first, because I still haven't yet and would rather play 3rd person - also because they're probably gonna retcon 8 references into 4 remake

I did play the original 4 and did think it was fun even if nOt A rEaL rEsIdEnT eViL, but I gotta say - that clip they showed of Leon running through the village the first time looked fun as hell

I’m not going to watch a single thing on this game, just gonna play it immediately upon release.

I’ve never replayed anything as many times. High hopes.. high hopes.

No spoilers - so far it looks tremendous and authentic to the original. Not an exact duplicate, but close enough where there's zero doubt what game you're playing. Fingers crossed, hopefully the experience carries over. Again, I'm just concerned about length. Village is the longest modern RE title and it's still less than 1/2 the length of RE4. I just hope that isn't some kind of limitation and it was simply a design choice.

I don't know about that. I can run through RE4 in 6-7 hours on Normal, 9'ish hours on Professional. And that is while killing everything, collecting all documents and treasures (basically 100%). My first playthrough on Gamecube took more than 20 hours, IIRC. Maybe closer to 30. RE2 and RE3 were always on the shorter side before the remakes. My first playthrough of RE3 on PSX took around 2 hours. The same for a single scenario in RE2.

In an interview with producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi at IGN, it is mentioned that there are no QTEs like the original game, but there are gameplay sequences where button presses are necessary. It may have been lost in translation, but I think these button sequences referred to are things like being grabbed that we see in the gameplay trailer, which were present in the original game.

Preorders are also up on Steam.

No Plans for Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake, But If the “Opportunity Comes, Maybe”

Speaking to Noisy Pixel as part of a Resident Evil 4 Remake interview, CAPCOM producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi said the team is currently busy finishing that project...however, given the opportunity, he said a Resident Evil Code Veronica Remake would maybe be considered

upon release, Resident Evil Code Veronica was hailed as a masterpiece by critics, with 94/100 as the average Metacritic review score...however, the Sega Dreamcast quickly failed to gain traction in the console market dominated by Sony, so an expanded version titled Code Veronica X was released on PlayStation 2 in 2001...

I want a CV and Outbreak Remake but let them make Rev 3/ RE 9 first please 🙏

This is a rare pre-order for me. I support the project, franchise, and Capcom in general for the most part. Plus, I have some degree of faith that they aren't going to screw this up.
