Official PS5 Thread

If they got PS3 emulation working instead of streaming it would be more appealing for me. Otherwise I already pretty much own all of the PlayStation studio games outright.

No MGS games mentioned is kind of concerning too.

Not going to happen. They rather you pay a monthly fee for older games then spend money and time developing a emulator for the PS5. There is no money in doing that.

I'm not talking about running PS3 games off discs. Only running the PS3 games from the service on the local hardware just like they're doing for the PS1 and PS2 games already.

Ah I didn't know that the PS3 games were cloud only. They should have the emulator already tho if running on their cloud services.

Well one thing PS+ now has over Xbox: Trophies in original PlayStation games. I'm sure it will be developer-dependent, but a good gesture to have support nonetheless.

Syphon Filter will have trophies when it arrives on the revamped service.

Syphon filter was one of my favorite original PlayStation titles, so looking forward to going for Platinum.

Growing up I only had part 2, I literally bought part 1 about three weeks ago, and am excited to play it for the first time, no trophies needed. Still cool they're doing this though

Since I didn't know where else to put this post (and I wanted to share)... last night I put together a shelf and finally was able to put most of my games out. There is still some left to put out, but all my PlayStation games are in these photos.

The current PS5 plays games akin to a high-end PC. Dare I say it, but I don't even want/need a Pro model at the moment. Even if one fell in my lap. Games don't really warrant it. The only areas where it's lacking are as a media device and that's entirely software bound.

Pretty much agree. The best thing they can improve on for the Pro is RT performance, as the the RDNA2 architecture is relatively weak in RT performance. And RT is surely going to become standard in games as the generation continues. I'm interested in seeing FSR being implemented in console games at some point too, as that will improve performance across the board with with a minimal impact to IQ as long as they stick with the higher quality setting on it. Seems better than current checkerboard upscaling at least.

Sony Shares Official PlayStation PC Sales Numbers

if they're forecasting a 4x growth in the next year on PC then they must be planning a ton of new releases...some rumnored titles include Horizon Forbidden West, Returnal, Ghost of Tsushima, Ratchet and Clank etc

I just have to say... Ratchet & Clank Rift Apart + 120hz mode + VRR-capable TV + Fidelity graphics mode is quite possibly the most beautiful game I've ever played on any platform. The instantaneous loading between dimensions, the seamless transition from cutscene to gameplay, the lighting, the ray-tracing, and the performance is just incredible. VRR enabled with 120hz enabled targets 40fps in Fidelity mode and it is really really really smooth. Before I upgraded my TV... Fidelity mode looked incredible but the locked 30fps just didn't feel right (felt below 30fps at times) and the performance felt lackluster, but this 40fps target feels closer to 60fps than 40fps and it's beyond incredible to see. I've taken so many screenshots and videoclips in the first hour of the game than any other I've played yet.

It's like playing a Pixar movie.

Considering there's what, 1 or 2 ps5 games, and even then Returnal doesn't feel all that next gen. Releasing a pro would be pointless. How about some next gen games first.

Hopefully they give us something, looking like a pretty sparse rest of 22 for PS5.

this is mostly a 3rd party title and VR showcase so I don't expect anything major (Street Fighter 6 looks to be the biggest reveal)...Sony's big first party showcase is in September

My PS5 got the dreaded no HDMI signal black screen today. Did all the usual troubleshooting and it didn't come back. Was having issues with video output flashing occasionally leading up to the failure. If the new model was confirmed to be coming out I would have just waited on it, so I initiated the repair service. $229 if it can be fixed or replaced since it's out of warranty. It's a launch disc model.

Fun fact: Sony is the only console maker who I've had issues with in each of their consoles. The RRoD was bad with the Xbox 360, but that issue didn't cross over to refresh or subsequent generations.

PS1: Launch console CD drive died, replacement console's mainboard died, replacement's replacement works fine (in storage)
PS2: Launch console DVD drive died, replacement console's DVD drive died, slim console works fine (in storage)
PS3: 60GB launch console power supply fried, replaced power supply myself which subsequently died, slim console Blu-ray drive died, ultra slim console still works
PS4: Launch console still works, slim console's Blu-ray drive died, PS4 Pro still works
PS5: Launch disc console video output died

that sucks...luckily you already have the upgraded model- it's called PC

Sucks, sorry man.

Looking back for me, I guess I've had issues with all my PlayStations as well besides my PS1 and PS5 so far.

My PS1 is an earlier model too I think with the expansion port on the back that I have a GameShark for. It's in storage in the US and hasn't been touched in several years, but worked last time I played it.
PS2 had the optical drive die out of warranty, I was still in high school at the time and working at Wal-Mart making minimum wage, so I did the'ol Wal-Mart RMA and had them swap it out with a new PS2 without a receipt 😅.
PS3 80GB with software PS2 BC got the YLOD after a few years. Replaced it with a slim (not super slim) and it still works today. Just played it a few days ago and my daughter was playing daily until recently when they took the LBP servers down because they kept getting "hacked."
PS4 near-launch model (got it when Uncharted 4 launched) developed an issue where it wouldn't turn on unless I unplugged it first (made thread here). Fortunately it was replaced under warranty though, and I sold the replacement towards a PS4 Pro when it launched.
PS4 Pro still going strong and kids still play it almost daily. I repasted and cleaned it out good for TLoU P2 and it's still quieter now than it was new too.
PS5 has been good so far and I got it at launch, so it's out of warranty at this point too.

The laser died in my PS1, 2 and 3. They were easy enough to fix myself and pretty inexpensive. My PS4, Pro and PS5 have been perfect. Never had a issue with the original Xbox and 360. Neither got no where near the use that my PS systems had tho. My 360 was the elite so it wasn't effected by RRoD.

It feels like the people clamoring for Pro models are the folks that didn't get launch models. That could be for whatever reason, but it seems to be a common theme. Until they kill off the last gen completely, we're still ALL dealing with gimped games. No amount of tacked-on ray tracing and slightly higher resolutions will change that. I'm 100% fine with Pro models, but right now it's a fix for the wrong problem.

VRR reminds me of HDR. You kinda have to see it to get it...but if your device can't do it, that's impossible. This does a good job of explaining it so that someone can understand how it works, though. Glad they're pushing it as a legit feature.

I own a whole bunch of digital PS3 and PS2 games because my PS3 disk drive died relatively early on. The fact that this new update is, theoretically, gonna bring me back all my digital PS2/3 titles makes me happy, even if they're streaming only.

Am I the only one who thinks The Ascent may be the prettiest game they've ever seen? I have not yet played a game where I purposefully slow down constantly just to take all the tiny details... I mean every square inch of environment has detail to it.
