12700K and Air cooling (Besides for Dark Rock Pro 4) Avoiding AIO

I Really Really want to put together a 12700K build to replace my Ryzen1700 (I know, I can drop in a new Ryzen now), but I would prefer an Intel build.

I do not trust AIO cooling, I look at it as more than a single point of failure, and the possibility of leaks.

I have not been able to complete my trigger pull, as I am always circling around cooling.

Will the Scythe Fuma 2 keep the CPU cool, and allow me to stretch it or will Thermal throttling happen? How About ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO?

Would a Noctua U12A work? They list it on their compatibility, but Just turning on and Idling as opposed to workloads?

At times, I often re-encode MP3's, running 12-16 concurrent threads at full bore for ~ 90 minutes at most (while playing WoW)

I run mine under the U12S with the stock case fans in a O11 Air Mini case the temps are absolutely fine. My ambient temps are always cool at 19-21c where the PC sits for some context.

I have been seeing mid 50s and 60s after gaming for hours. I can run some load tests if you want later tonight after work.

Is that with one or two fans on the HS?

I ordered ARCTIC Freezer 34 eSports DUO (supposed to handle 210watts), has anyone else used this with the 12700k?

Just one. The U12A has the better fans and of course you get two but this was on the shelf at Microcenter at the time. I’m pretty sure Gamers Nexus reviewed the Freezer 34 and liked it.
 
I have used both a Noctua NH-U12A and my current Z73 AIO on my 12700K. Similar temps with both of them, but I just like the look of the AIO myself.

I ordered the Noctua NH-U12A. It is SO difficult to make a decision on Air Cooling for the ADL it seems to me

You made a good choice. The only difficulty I found was finding a LGA 1700 compatible cooler that shipped with the bracket instead of having to wait weeks to get one.

The Scythe Fuma 2 is a good cooler - if priced satisfactorily. In some countries (non-USA) - it's a bad price. What was the 'besides Dark Rock Pro4' supposed to mean?
 
I actually got the Noctua U12A delivered yesterday (Same Day).

I would be waiting until tomorrow still for the Scythe Fuma 2 Rev. B

I didn't like the Dark Pro 4 as it size over the RAM slots is restrictive. Not all Ram is short.

It's L140 mm x W121 mm x H158 mm and 1000 g with 140mm middle and 120mm front fans
Running with single middle fan is same temp at same noise level and and about 3-4dB louder at maybe 2-3c cooler with 2x fans at full speed. About half the time temps are same single or double fanned. Single fan at same cools same as 2x fans at same dB, so only time 2x fans cool better is at full speed. ;)

Frost Commander 140 cools better than all other air coolers. It's very well designed with 5x 8mm heatpipes.

And guess what... With the fans mounted on the outside of the towers, pushing air to the middle, you should be able to drop another 3-5c off load temps.

Then in you have a duct and a fan pulling the warm air out from in between the towers, you can drop another 2-3c off the load temps.

Guess how I know? I did extensive experimenting with a Noctua NH-D14.

Blowing the air through one tower and then the warm air from the first tower through the second tower is just silly if you want actual good cooling performance.

Oh yeah, the Noctua dual tower coolers also cool a lot better if you put decent high pressure and high flow fans on them.

Did you try both fans on the outside but pulling air out instead of pushing in? I wonder if it would yield more efficient temps & easily exhaust out of the roof fans without needing an additional duct?

I tried a similar experiment except with my rads and found the results to be negligible but that might be because I have a lot of radiator surface which may be overkill so not much performance was gained when all rads had only fresh air going through them vs one pulling in and the other 2 exhausting.

I would like to see your temp data. Generally, two fans blowing into a heatsink, is not good. However, the D14 is a pretty widely space tower, so it could yield interesting results, I suppose. However, I'm not sure it would be significantly better than the typical fan setup. And a typical fan setup should be better for directing airflow of the whole case.

Fans pushing in boths sides of twin towers usually cause at lot more mixing of heated exhaust air into cool intake air, and warmer air entering cooler raised component temp same degrees as air is warmer, so if air is 3c warmer entering cooler component is also 3c hotter (@ same load & fan speed).
 
Currently running a Noctua NH-D15S on a 12600k.

60c load temp at stock speed, but a slight overclock was enough to bring load temps up to 80c in short order.

Current OC is 5GHz for 2 cores active, 4.7GHz for 3+ cores active (e-cores are stock speed). Encoding 1080p h.265 video in Handbrake had the CPU holding 80c for the entire duration of the encode.

I attempted a 5Ghz all-core OC, but started pinging off 100c and thermal throttling while encoding or running cinebench. NH-D15 just can't hack in.
