Red Dead Redemption 2

Can't wait. Would've preferred a simultaneous PC launch, but I'll buy a PS4 Pro the day RDR2 launches.

I can only imagine the online portion being similar to GTA Online, in terms of how quests and missions work.
But set in an open world western? Bad ass.

This game is going to be amazing.

I bet PC will get a port eventually.

RDR2 being announced is the single most hyped I've been for a game since Gears 1 trailer dropped 9-10 years ago. I really really wanted a PC release, but I simply refuse to wait for a delayed release. RDR2 will force me to buy a console to play it, and most likely Scorpio due to timing and power/price value. Wouldn't make sense to buy a PS4 Pro next year for this game when Scorpio is going to be leagues more powerful.

Red Dead Redemption is the single best video game I have ever played, I can't think of any games ever.. that come close. I would put something like the heralded Half Life 2 football fields away from RDR.

I feel like "next gen" started today with this announcement.

I fail to understand the love RDR gets. Half Life 2 is still the best game I've ever played.

Eh just difference of opinions that's all.

Some may not like western settings, others may not like futuristic shooters like HL2 is.

I don't think RD had the impact that Half life 2 had, but I don't think it's trying to either.

I know I've said it before but I'll say it again:

For me Rockstar peaked on RDR.

Even the online setup was perfect. I can go on there and play it like a single player game if I feel like it otherwise you could hook up with friends. Everything just worked. Hell, I still fire it up on occasion even now.

All they have to do is duplicate that setup and refine it logically for today and I'll be more than ecstatic.

But you and I both know Rockstar won't just stop there. I'm thinking they're gonna go above and beyond with this one. After all the hype that's been built this year from leaks and such, there's no way they won't.

From some of these leaks in the past year, in regards to the story portion, it looks like we may have multiple characters to play as, just like in GTA V.

Thoughts?

Fine by me. I hope you're right about all that.

Best I can tell this is their next flagship priority 1 title so I know I'm headed for something really good.

It's hard to beat Rockstar when they are firing on all thrusters. GTA 5 is a heck of a game and it's great on the PC. They polished it well for all platforms.

If I get something of that quality for an RDR game I will be VERY happy.

I agree. It's one of few games where I actually got into the story. The switch to Mexico with the long ride fading to Far Away was a thing of beauty.

Now, I'm sure it'll get a PC port in fall of 2018. Rockstar tends to put more effort into their ports, so I don't mind it coming after the fact.

I can't help but say I'm a little disappointed in terms of its setting.

It seems obvious now that it is indeed a prequel, with the pre-trailer image being Dutch's gang and the trailer showing late wild west technology (like electric arc lights).

So we are looking at at least 1880+ as the setting in this game.

I was really really hoping this was going to be a game set in the "wild" west and not the late/dying "west" again. Where you had people still taming the west, land rushing and earlier technology then RDR. As well as getting away from Marstona nd his story, I felt that it was "finished" and you didn't need to know about his earlier outlaw days with Dutch's gang.

Apart from that the trailer looked great , the graphics, lighting, everything looked top notch.

I wish RDR would come out on PC. That game was completely off my radar when it came out and don't feel like digging out and connecting my PS3 for it now. RDR2 will be day one purchase for PS4 when it comes out tho. PC will be probably be released a year after PS4.

PC Market is CD keys and Steam sales if that people will buy consoles just for this game.

I just picked this up recently on PS4, after beating 1. There's so much more to this one, what all can I do? Or can't? What should I do?

It's a great game outside the absolute wonk ass controls. If you drop this game for a while and come back it's a nightmare as the controls are completely non-standard compared to every other third person open world game out there.

The controls were definitely a weakpoint for the game. I've played the game from beginning to end twice and I still found myself doing the wrong things at the end of both playthroughs. The overblown inventory system and areas where you can only walk super slowly were also gripes. One nice thing about the PC version of the game is that it makes fast travel much, much better. On the X1 and PS4 the fast travel took so long that you might as well have just hopped on your horse. If you have an SSD, the PC version's quick travel only takes a couple seconds.

Yeah, not sure what they were smoking when they designed them. It's just so bad. When I can drop Elden Ring for a month, or BOTW for like a year, and instantly jump back in and pick it up fast - You know you've designed your controls bad in this game.
