Actraiser Renaissance

Here is the trailer from the Nintendo stream. It shows off some gamplay and some of the changes they made.

Short 30 second clip from the Squeenix account:

First 10 minutes from the Japanese PS4 version:

The last attempt Sol whatever didn't look but his looks decent I wonder if the success of Kid Icarus had anything to with game being developed in the early 90s I still own Actraiser 2 game was too hard for back then in my teens.

It has the Symphonic Suite as a secondary soundtrack. That would explain why they re-recorded it last year.

In short, the music is gonna be fuckin amazing.

I used to own a video game store back in the early nineties. We brought in a bunch a Super Famicoms from Japan to get a jump on the SNES release for rentals. Bought a bunch of early titles of which one was Actraiser. It was in Japanese only and being pre internet I learned and played through it clueless. No instructions just trial and error. Maybe the best video game experience of my life and the first actual game I finished ever!
Great music and the blend of a building game and action game was brilliant and topped by the best score of any game to that date and probably still holds up very well.
Always meant to replay it using the SNES version so I could read the English :)

I still remember how the second Actraiser was impossible for me to play. The float mechanic and all... damn, brutal. I loved the first game. I'm in.

A lot of those old school Enix games showed no mercy.

I loved the first game also. I will have to give this a try. I didn't even know the 2nd existed til a few years ago.

Second one got rid of the strategy part of the single player. Opinion on that being removed is largely split. Looks like they at least updated that part of the full game to be a little less boring and tedious.

I had zero idea this was even in the works. Nice! I'll definitely be grabbing it. I was into the first one more. My brother beat the second one a few times. I don't think I ever did.

Hmm... Looks like it's not very good. That's unfortunate. It's not actually 2.5D. I prefer proper 2D, but if you're going to do 2.5D, then do it right I guess? I watched the Game Sack video, and it pretty much told me everything I wanted to know. I suppose I'll just play the original. :D I think I'll leave this one alone. Definitely not a quality remake like Ghosts n Goblins or the like.

Ghosts and Goblins is probably the better game. I haven't played the new Actraiser, but I haven't heard very good things about it, and the art-style is kind of bad.

Ghosts and Goblins on the other hand is a true entry in the series with hints of Ghosts and Goblins, Ghouls and Ghosts, and plenty of its own parts. They took the game series, and progressed it, rather than doing a hacky conversion/"update". I highly recommend grabbing it.

I'm interested in Ghosts and Goblins Resurrection, but I have to say that ActRaiser Renaissance does seem to extend the story and mechanics of the original an I've been having a good time with it; its not just a direct retelling and there's more to it while still hitting many of the big story beats of the original. This reminds me to go back, as with many things even enjoyable titles end up in my backlog for a time.

That's good news actually. I still really think that they should have either stuck with 2D art, or gone all out on a fully scalable 2.5D / 3D engine, but if the game play is good, then that becomes less of a concern.

I'm enjoying ActRaiser, it's changed a bit but it' s a fun romp.
