Dell Alienware AW3423DW 34″ QD-OLED 175Hz (3440 x 1440)

Unless I'm mistaken, last I checked there is no such thing as Dolby Vision on a Windows PC.
There is, for example Mass Effect Andromeda, but it’s barely working.
But it’s there, hopefully there will be a big update in the future.

Although I won't be picking one of these up, I'm definitely keeping an eye on the tech. This in a 38" or slightly bigger form would definitely have me second guessing my decision to not purchase. The 'sale' price is also super interesting as mini-LED displays are ridiculously priced IMO.

There is, a few games support it. The one I play is FH5. The HDR calibration for DV in FH5 is quite a bit better than for HDR10 too, sadly. That said, it still looks great.

You can see the grey blacks in this video because the monitor AG coating traps the light, just like a matte coating. I dont understand why they wouldnt get a premium glossy AG coating like on top model TVs.

What monitor are you using that has Dolby Vision?

Irl it's very, very similar to the coating on my LG E8 actually. Seems less the coating and more the pixels that are off being illuminated. That said it's very easy to adjust lighting in my room to avoid it entirely, so I'm happy enough.

So let me get this straight....dude bought the latest ultrawide display....but films it with his potato in VERTICAL orientation....ugggggghhhhhhh..... I swear there is a special place in hell for vertical orientationers.

Regarding these gray blacks, they say when the monitor has no signal it shows that. Can someone actually confirm with a black image vs no signal?

My guess is so people know that the monitor is on? Because with my OLED tv when I sometimes "Turn it on" only to actually turn it off because I didn't know lmaoooo

FH5 doesn’t support Dolby Vision on the PC.

Vertical cell phone video should be illegal. /half-sarcasm

I can assure you Dolby Vision in its current state is nothing to worry about.
The technology can be good but the implementation thus far is not. My video on it should be done within the next week or so.

I've actually been working on this for a while, I'm trying to arrange a live stream with Stacey Spears (of Spears and Munsil) and a few others to bring more attention to the issues. By doing so we hope to help Dolby, display manufacturers and content creators have a better standard. Right now HDR10 is far more consistent and accurate.

And when it comes to gaming in Dolby Vision, it's going to take a long time if it all ever possible to have true dynamic metadata in a video game with low input lag.

My order was supposed to have shipped today and I see nothing in my FedEx account, and no update from Dell other than the order confirmed email last night.

Blacks do not appear grey at all in person although I only have a single 60W equivalent LED bulb in my room's light fixture with a couple other low power bounce lights in the room.

The monitor doesn't have an antiglare coating, it has an AR coating, and it isn't remotely matte. Very glossy. Reflection handling is the best I've ever seen on a display this glossy. I was actually somewhat concerned that because blacks are black and the screen is glossy that I'd end up staring at myself in the reflection like I have with previous glossy monitors, but this is not the case. It's just black.

Guys, this is easily the best PC-related purchase I have ever made. If you're on the fence and you have the money, just do it. You won't regret it.

For those that had the chance to try it, how is text reproduction good enough for someone that would want to code/play on that monitor ?

I can't really imagine coding or doing digital art/3d modeling on such a curved screen. That's the major factor holding me back, but I may just buy it at some point as a gaming only screen.

Alternatively I could stay on one screen by getting a 42" c2, and not sacrifice my 4k resolution for gaming. I dunno.... Guess I'll decide later when I'm about to buy in any case, which isn't now.

Apparently it’s available in Australia now. Still nothing for Canada. Dell really doesn’t want to take my orens.

There was an article (was deleted?) that date would be the "9th" which is tomorrow already in Australia. Only question is if there are any left for North America after the early premier purchases lol

My Sunday $1300 order ETA has slipped to Saturday delivery, while my Monday $980 order has sped up to first half day on Thursday lol....most ass backwards monitor launch I have ever seen.

It's not perfect, certain fonts and certain combinations of size/color/background make the green/red fringing more/less visible. Most of the time it just looks like a normal RGB monitor. You can get around it by using slightly larger font sizes or using dark themes.

Checking Reddit, it looks like quite a few of us that used the CapitalOne premier link and ordered on Sunday, at full price mind you, are perpetually stuck in "in production" status with no shipping. While people who recently ordered the discounted one have already shipped. Dell is quickly going on my company shit-list.

I think someone here got a 2nd and was looking to sell to you? Not sure if it was in jest =P

I'm in the r/monitors Discord and no one with a discounted order has had theirs ship yet AFAIK. I ordered mine Saturday night/Sunday morning at 1 AM with expedited shipping and got mine today.

Mine is here, will test over next few days and report back. Mine was discounted but direct through a Dell Business rep over the phone fwiw.GLTA.

Pretty damn sure it does, has an entirely different HDR calibration screen on my E8 or CX vs this Alienware, on the same exact PC.
That's an issue with the game even on Xbox. Sometimes it shows both sliders, sometimes just one.

This monitor looks like the perfect upgrade from my X34
I too have been rocking an x34 for 6 years now. While yes this would be a great upgrade in regards to picture quality, I just can't 'upgrade' my monitor to something that is the same size and resolution... just my 2c..

I'll have to check it again then, cus all the sliders make tuning it a breeze, what I got earlier was kinda shit.

I’m also at six years since my last monitor and while I’d like higher DPI panels such as 5k2k at a minimum going IPS to QD OLED should be a hell of an upgrade. Ever since my last trinitron died around 03 I’ve been waiting for a return to displays capable of displaying black and near blacks properly. Not to mention lower latency and no motion blur. Every monitor I’ve bought since then has been a painful compromise and hardly worth the money after being spoiled by a fw900.

I finally caved and replaced the old IPS 1080p TV last year with a c1 and now looking at my 34” IPS is just that much more intolerable and I look for excuses not to game at the PC in the meantime. Absolutely killing me waiting for the Dell Canada orders to open up. Hopefully they haven’t added a lot of extra exchange markup.

I figure over the next couple years we might get some other QD OLED panels trickling in and then I flip this one for the resolution bump. In the meantime I save a bit in the GPU department not having to push a higher resolution.

None of my "Member Purchase Program" discounts or codes through work would apply to the monitor other then free expedite shipping and bonus cash back offers. That 10% code doesn't appear to work in the US either :(

Ah well I guess, ordered one and went to production already.

*Edit* I never saw the "advanced exchange warranty" in the cart like I did with premier when I looked at it. I tried adding another to the cart and don't see it again....I assume that's just implied and not a line item? anyone know?

Soooo tempting but I think I'm gonna wait for more reviews. Hopefully it's not too hard to grab one when that happens.

Edit: After the 10% off email sign up I couldn't pass it up. Man I didn't hold out for long lol. In for 1!

That make around $1148 USD + tax with the coupon...., that much under expected MSRP on launch day in Canada is "aggressive" and quite good I presume
Welp my Dell Canada order was cancelled apparently and trying again it looks like the coupon is dead now. "10%OFFMONITOR is valid code, but isn't applicable to any items in your cart."

Edit: apparently you can get a 10% one time off monitors coupon for signing up to the newsletter and that still works. Hopefully no issues this time.

Edit: processed and mar 15th delivery eta. Here’s hoping for no panel lottery pain.

Ordered one today. Estimated for next week arrival (assuming its not delayed). Pretty pumped for it and will be a nice replacement of my Dell 27in GSync one I have now.
