Star Citizen - media blowout, Chris Robert's new game

It's free fly until sometime today. It's polarizing but notably most often between those who haven't played it and those who have. Rarely do I see that same polarization among people who own and have played it. There's people like me who check it out every few years whereas others are playing daily; most of the vitriol comes from those who neither own nor play it, though, and that's worth pointing out.
that's like the snake oil salesman saying "the only people who speak falsehoods about my product are the ones who haven't tried it yet! huzzah!"

Sure, bud. I'm talking about this thread and everyone reading it can look back over the past ten years it's been ongoing to fact-check the pattern I just described.

Most people who actively hate on the game are unhinged. Normally adjusted people simply move on...they don't perpetuate a conversation about something they have no stated interest in for a decade. That observation is not limited to Star Citizen...

sorry, i have SCDS (star citizen derangement syndrome)

I'm in the hole for $30 bucks for those two AMD packages (that are now "worth" $200+/each apparently) so it has only "cost" me about 3/4 of a penny a day to watch you, GoldenTiger, and some others sperg all over the thread for the past decade.

Watching you post two to three times in rapid shot responses is icing on the cake; really drives your point home...or mine.

I've barely posted in this thread, bud. Your rabid defense says a lot though.

I just randomly hit a page (469) and there you are posting 3-4 times on it!

hahahaha, meanwhile I hop in every few years to see what's going on with the game and mention that I don't bother currently playing it and you characterize that as "rabid defense."

Unhinged!

I just ran a search on your participation in this thread and the entire forum...it's your most often replied to thread!
https://hardforum.com/search/3430614/

Anyway...here I am getting pulled into an argument by the thread's most prolific trolls so with that observation I'm out for another few years. Have fun bitching about a game you've already stated you have no intention of ever buying or trying. LMFAO.

Your link (and post having any truth, which it doesn't) are broken. My most posted threads are the word association game and keep/drop a word in genmay ;). Your rabid defense by replying every 10 seconds speaks volumes....

ok you convinced me... not only is star citizen not a scam, it's actually an *investment.* when can i sign on the dotted line?

i will point out a scam every time i see it.

Just bought the game like 3 days ago, Absolutely loving it. showed a few friends and they went out and scooped it up too. Space combat has been fun and the FPS aspect has a bit of work on the AI, but hopefully thats fixed when S42 comes out. We've just been having a blast with our $40 dollar bundles.

Honeymoon... Even the worst mmo games can be fun with friends for a few days or so. You'd have been way better off with anything but supporting this dev.

So what does space combat entail? Is it PvE or PvP? How many players?

How stable is it?
Did you or your friends have any freezes or crashes?
What kind of FPS did you have?

You said the AI just needs a bit of work, what do you mean? I was unaware they released any ai yet.

How are the missions?

What kinda passive aggressive shit is this comment 🤣.
For the past few years 90% of the posts in here are from those who are not thrilled with the offerings, devs, "progress" or anything related to it and must continually say so every time a post is made. More so if it is a positive comment. Just ignore em. If you had fun enjoy!

I just have a hard time believing that anyone has fun with the disastrous tech demo Ive seen during free fly weekends. It's pretty obvious he's trolling to get negative attention by claiming the "game" is "amazing". It's like playing 3dmark!

Hey! glad to answer questions! I'm still very much brand new new.
[Edit: touching on space combat] its really fun. The beginner missions have been boring since the enemies have low hp and sheilds but I've been with more seasoned players and it's way more fun. You accept a mission where ever you are and the mission tells you the last known location. You need to get in your ship (amazing experience full of woahs, oos and ahs) and you need head to your destination. You then get either a updated location or neutralize the target and game is on. There are missles, lasers and ballistics so far. Missiles and ballistics have limited ammo. So you tend to fight it out with lasers until sheild drops then minigun them to death. The ship customization is awesome but I'm just now learning about them. Pvp absolutely exists but I've been told to stay out of unmonitored space such as the area near a place called grimes. If you get enough criminal status other players can pick your bounty. Atmospheric flight was a real bitch. Things like weather, gravitational pull all play factors. Atmospheric doh fights are my favorite right now. But if I pull to crazy of a move you can begin to black out. It's really awesome.
Stability? Havent crashed yet and none of my friends have either.
Bugs on the other hand are another story but every video, article and person will tell you they are just part of the game for what you get. We decided to load up this huge carrier with 2 tanks, We had tank on tank penetration from loading and suddenly both tanks and ship went poof and the driver of the ship was 48 million km away. We came out of a bunker and was like wtf while our buddy was screaming that hes currently rubber banding across the galaxy. It took like 15 min for him to warp back to us while we ran around and explored with a worthog like jeep thing.
FPS can be eh on my 5600x/32gb/3070ti. But you can easily find guides that make the game perform better online like turning on triple buffering and increasing your shaders cache to 10gb. I did these things on a 970m laptop and the game is playable, but i wouldnt be able to keep playing on my laptop. Wife loves lost ark and she gets the PC when shes not working.
I get about 55-60fps usually at 3440x1440. Theres one planet that dumps the fps consistantly into the 30's. but its a optimazation thing. my buddy with the new intel i7 and a 3080ti is only getting 5 more fps.
Missions are pretty fking cool so far. Ive only done Mercenary and BH ones but the boots on the ground when storming a bunker, or retaking a giant capital ship that was taken by pirates was an amazing experience. You float your ship next to the capital ship, lower the rear deck, your entire squad jumps out into space and floats next to the ship. You have to either enter a door or cut a door open and you slowly sweep the ship clearing the pirates. One time our buddy shot a friendly and causes him to get crime statistics. That was a hilarious experience as we landed at a space station and every guard wanted him dead. We were naked sprinting to the terminals to pay his fine.
Its been great for the 40 bucks. I'll write a part 2 in a bit. Gearing up for my son's birthday currently.

Jut because you cant enjoy what the game entails doesnt mean others cant. I have a ball when Im on doing events with my org, including all the shittery and crashing and bugs in the world. Not being an angry douche makes it easier to not be angry when everything isnt perfect. I still laugh and enjoy the 3-4 hours I make time to join the org.

The bulk of posts in here that are negative scream of "stop liking things I dont like", and a complete unwillingness to accept that others value money different, enjoy games different, and expect different things from what they support.

Guess what guys? We accept that you irrationally hate this game, CR, everything about it. Why cant you accept that some of us enjoy and find value in what we purchased? Its not hurting you in any way for me to spend money or time in the game, why do people need to be so offensive toward supporters?

So it still comes down to the game isn't fun, hanging out with friends in the game is fun.

It would be nice if backers would make that clear when talking about SC.

Parts are fun. Parts are broke. Parts are ok. People make most of those better if you have an org. But each release (.15 aside imho) gets better.

I wasn't angry, but man do you sound it. Ad hominems and flames. Of course the tech demo is fun with friends, even the worst games can be. That includes things that aren't games yet and stink, like star citizen's tech demo.

Oh boy, has it been ten years already? It looks like the arguments are more or less the same. I've put my money down so long ago...I guess it's time to check out the latest version since I got a new graphics card recently. I usually install the latest Star Citizen release when I upgrade.

I had my fun with it over the years. I only play solo because I have no friends in space or in real life. Will this game ever be completed in my lifetime? Who knows...but hey if you feel like your purchase was worth it, I am not one to argue. I put my money down because I believed in the world that RSI wanted to build. I was a lot younger and full of hope in those days. Now I'm just old and just need something to keep me busy for when I retire and can play PC games all day. My money is already invested...hopefully I will see the games release someday.

Well color me surprised, I didn't realize they added a whole system to navigate. A decent trade and economic environment added as well. I might actually put some time into this now...

the patch coming out in a week or 2 will open up trading, revamps to the selling system, FPS gameplay changes and more. seems like a good patch.

I've actually been addicted to the game since my last post. I've been playing every night and upgraded a few ships. I picked up the 400i and 135c and they are much different than my 350r, which I kept. Origin is my favorite ship maker so far, but I plan on expanding to others. I did also pick up a Nomad and Hoverquad and I may or may not keep them, depending on how much use I get out of them.

I'm looking forward to 3.17 to test out the new features, and mostly to see if some of the bugs that I have ran into are fixed or at least manageable. Some of the box missions and bounty hunter missions glitch out from time to time. And I lost a few backpacks randomly while equipping them.

Dan thanks for the review on what it is like now.

This game is mainly a metaverse similar to gta v or minecraft based on what I can tell.

Fun for some groups of people but not for all.
