I don't want this thread to turn political, please refrain from that.

I wanted to post this so that if you're thinking about helping the Ukrainian people and don't know where to start, this would be a good beginning.

God be with the Ukrainian people.

all this talk about comrade poutine is making me feel like watching dumbbell nan kilo moteru again

i don't wish to turn this into anything political either - i simply want to say that it feels good being able to agree so strongly about something like this with pretty much everyone.

How would it be political? This is not a U.S. left/right issue. This is about an authoritarian foreign nation trying to crush a burgeoning democracy.

While we haven't always lived up to our ideals, there is both Ng more aligned with U.S. values, independent of political party, than supporting democracy in the world.

Politics are not a US only invention... step back and take a broader view. And let's not make this thread even more political again.

This is a great move by CDPR. Between them and 11 bit studios, hopefully more and more can step in and stand up as well. I wish I could throw more money at CDPR, but I already own everything. Ah well, more direct donations instead from me.

It'll be really interesting if one of the big US studios does something like this.

Ah, yes, this is the politically-laced tech commentary that I yearn for. :D
I joke, but hopefully this conflict will end soon, as those poor civilians are the ones who are going to pay the ultimate price for all of this.

Sounds like you've never watched fox news.

This is absolutely political and 30 years in the making. This is the Cuban missile being played out over again with the role of Cuba played by Ukraine and the role of the USSR split with the US and the EU. Russia is playing the role of the US. It has nothing to do with democracy.

Makes you wonder how the some 300 employees of GSC Game World in Kiev and their families are doing.

(they are the developers of such series as Cossacks, and S.T.A.L.K.E.R)

On the one hand I was going to joke about how S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 is seemingly cursed, and never going to happen, but a mere game seems so trivial now.

What? Nukes weren't being shipped to Ukraine. There was no constant threat of Ukraine launching strikes against Russia. Cuban missile crisis? You don't by chance get paid to post do you?

Remember, Ukraine gave their nukes back to Russia. This is how they got repayed for such a good deed. Russia would think twice about invading if Ukraine kept their nukes. Instead they got backstabbed for their kindness.

Ukraine was super far from joining NATO too, they couldn't get their act together to even be eligible to join. NATO members weren't interested anyways. Not sure how you can force someone to make promises about Ukraine not joining, especially when the dictator himself doesn't keep his own promises. Maybe they should've made the promise and knowing that future elected officials could just break them? Promises from politicians? Sheeeeesh

Try opening a history book instead of a favorite news portal. This is a logical conclusion to policies set and enacted for the last three decades.

I was hoping people would avoid posting stuff like this. There is some truth to it however, but there are also a lot of people helping, perhaps too little too late, I hope not.
Throwing money at it is not really helping at this point.

Just so you know - PAH is a legit organization and the donated money does not fund weapons nor influencers.
We were at over 100k refugees in PL alone (with another few hundred thousand fleeing to Hungary etc.) and the people need shelter and basic items.

Well maybe I am not looking at the correct History books, but this is the third time Russia has attacked Ukraine since the fall of the Soviet Union. The only thing I have been able to find in the last 4 hours of looking that Ukraine could of even done with policies or actions is the fact that Ukraine is getting closer too becoming a NATO member. But that in itself doesn't create any crisis for Russia. Just protects Ukraine.

Just to be clear, that was an apolitical "hmm", because everyone knows that witchers do not involve themselves with politics.

Of course war is driven by politics. But human suffering doesn't care a whit about politics. I'm glad to see that CDPR has taken action to provide relief to the victims, regardless of what people think of their motivations.

I think Vlad is upset because NATO shares a number of borders with Russia and he doesn't want another large border with NATO. This is partly why he invaded instead of screwing around in a couple of provinces for 8 years.

Putin is out of his fuckin mind. If he takes control of Ukraine, he will share an even larger border with NATO. Hopefully he eats a bullet soon, god willing.

I don't know what's going on with Putin's head. Russia's economy is already devastated by 2 years of covid along with existing sanctions.

Even with their natural gas and oil export, it's estimated that they are losing 20 billion each day with this invasion.

What is in Ukraine that is worth all this? Even if Russia takes over Ukraine, they'd still lose as no country will want to work with them. New sanctions with the death of trade and economic ties will make Russia collapse, terrible timing too as it's still winter there.

Incredibly sad to see this happening, for both Ukraine and Russia, nobody should go through this.

Anyway, props to CD Projekt Red, I already have several of their games and will definitely be making more purchases on GOG.

Without taking this too far into the politics: it's Putin's ego finally butting up against reality.

I've seen a few indie game developers devote money to Ukraine as well. Apparently, all the 11 Bit Studios companies are sending profits from game sales (like This War of Mine) to Ukraine, at least for a while.
