Elden Ring (From Software RPG)

Really sucks no ultra widescreen support just yet.
Widescreen works with the Flawless Widescreen app. (note: you need to play offline, rename start_protected_game.exe to something else, then copy/paste eldenring.exe into the same folder, then rename the copied version to start_protected_game.exe) (and possibly block both exe's in your firewall)

I got stuck on Margit, one shots me. So I went back to gain a few levels. I noticed that while following the "recommended" route, grace sites were everywhere. But when I went off the beaten path, I couldn't find any. But I did go along right edge of the starting area and found a mage that sells spells. Though nothing worth buying for anyone who started as Astrologist. He did mention mage academy, and that I need a key to get in. So that would be my next objective, figuring how to get in (so far I'm not using any online guides). I just hope the key is not 10 bosses away or something like it :)

It ran great last night except I did have a full-on crash while I was in combat haha. Very strange. I've beaten two real bosses so far, and they have both been hella aggressive!

These are from 1.2, 1.02.1’s patch notes are:

• Mouse operation improved.
• Reduced number of files needed to load when entering a new area.
did a quick check, zero change in stuttering... not a good sign that they have any idea what they're doing with dx12

This shit is stuttering in the f'ing game menu before you even load the game. How is this game so f'd?

Patch fixed the zone transition stutters for me. It's smooth on my system now. I still don't know what changed, but the game is running substantially better than it did for me initially. It seems like EAC might be causing substantially more issues on different system configs.

how many times do i have to mention that it's the same with EAC disabled and playing offline? lol. sorry to snap at ya, just trying to make it clear that it's not eac related, at all (not the CORE problem anyway - clearly it *can* potentially cause other issues if its install gets borked up or something)

Works on my laptop still. Noticed during the updated launch it did update EAC....I give up on getting working on the desktop at this point. So fucking stupid.

Most likely 80-90% of those steam reviews are mainly griping about Stuttering/Game issues and not much about the actual game itself. I figure if you don't like it, refund it then get it 5-6 months from now when they have everything (Mostly) fixed.

i completely agree, that doesn't really change the point though

"even a core i9 10900k and rtx 3090 could not avoid these issues at the lowest settings and 720p"

runs fine on my pc guys i dunno what ur talking about
It by no means runs perfect in the open world, but my frametimes has been way more consistant in the past few days atleast in the areas I've been to. The only place I really ran into stutter was fighting Tree Sentinal. Moving on to fight Margit and that entire Stormveil Castle zone has been perfectly fine on my rig. I haven't explored anywhere else though, so I can't speak for other areas.

Digital Foundry just debunked all the nonsense I've been reading on the Steam forums and in this thread. The poor PC performance is not due to anything but a bad port from the developers. The only real suggestion is to refund the PC version and play it on console.
psh you're probably playing with old drivers and the game is installed on an hdd. lrn2pc noob

so... it's exactly the same as the DF video then?

I have Lost Ark. It scratches the diablo type game itch mainly. It's fun but Elden Ring is holding my interest at the moment.

10/10 game

Can't swim, can't climb, can't vault over a chest high wall.

Dated mechanics aside, I'm having a blast with this. Coastal cave was my first dungeon and I almost threw in the towel at the boss. I was about to come here and rage post "this game isn't for me" but I persisted, I "got gud", and I prevailed. I won't lie, I had anxiety-inducing dreams that night about getting stuck in an infinite loop of "run to boss, die, run to boss, die, etc..." I think maybe I shouldn't play right before bedtime.

To my delight, somehow the next few dungeons were FAR easier. Me and my pal Torrent are now gleefully adventuring through this beautiful tarnished land. And don't worry, Torrent and I are seeding, not leeching. I leave super helpful messages throughout the world such as "could this be a key?" right in front of an obvious key.

Honestly, from what I've seen so far, i'm having an easier time than Sekiro. Mostly because there is so many enemies/stuff around that lets you get your levels up without it feeling like grinding. Not saying it's easy of course, some enemies are just plain bullshit, like those knights in the castle. I have to cheese those and just backstab, loose aggro, backstab, repeat.

It really is amazing game though, and the dated mechanics only help it IMO.

I haven't watched the DF video but I will post a video showing my gameplay in Stormveil Castle, I can backtrack to the open world and demonstrate that as well if you want, but overall I'm not experiencing very many frame pacing issues. Give me about 10mins to upload the video.

i mean you don't really need to bother at this point, but if you are going to go through the effort at all, you really need the RTSS frame time graph or you're not showing anything.

Frametime graph will be in the video it's not 100% consistant, I recorded a short segment with some fails, but this represents most of what I experience for the most part atleast in the areas I been to, there is some stutter in the video but I didn't experience during gameplay. It's still processing but here is the link to it.

Again if anyone wants more, I'll record a bit more in other areas, the game isn't all that bad for everyone. This is at 4K Max settings, with an undervolt on a 3090, 9700k, 32GB RAM, 960 Pro nvme ssd.

Man DF really did not have much nice to say. It was nice to hear there really was not any tweaks the end user can do to improve the issues. It just squarely falls on From to fix this s,s,s,s,,s,s,,s,s,,s,stutter fest.

so what your video show is precisely the same thing i see on my end. you remained in a tight area of the game so mostly avoided the longer, harder stutters but the issue is there. if you want you could go to that staircase from the beginning of the game (the one also showcased in the DF video) for one of those longer "strings" of stuttering.

you are demonstrating what i've been saying all along - it's not that "you have a high end pc that you built and maintain so well that it actually runs the game better than most" it's that you aren't bothered by the stutters. your *perception* of them differs from mine even though our ft analysis looks exactly the same. this is actually the most perfect illustration of this i could ask for.

there's nothing wrong at all btw with the fact that it doesn't bother you. the reason i get all in a tizzy about it is just that people like you who are insensitive to it don't understand this and go around claiming to the world around them that it's really not bad and it must be everyone else that has the problem.

Did they release a fix for ultrawide support? I mean official release, not the flawless widescreen users fixed.

so here's a clip i just uploaded:

you'll notice it looks totally fine, or 99% fine anyway, frame times, fps, everything. however this is just a certain area of the game that's fine. if i wanted to i could send this to people complaining about stuttering and say "runs fine on my rig."

however parts of the game are a lot worse, such as this scond video i also just recorded:

sections at the start show worse problems, but further on also shows more areas where it's perfectly smooth (note also that Alex @ DF pointed this out in his video - that sometimes you could run 100s of meters without seeing a stutter.) then i run into more. and i've barely seen *anything* in the game, i've heard there are some boss fights and other encounters later in the game that have even more significant stutters. there's a good (but very brief) example at about 4:08 showing how those stutters can land right in the middle of a fight throwing off timing. and it's not just the stutter, it also actually slows the game speed down, another thing highlighted in the DF vid.

maybe now you might say, well you're making a mountain out of a molehill, to me it's not that bad - to which i say, exactly my point. to you it may not be a bothersome problem. to others it is. but its still the same between both our systems.

Yea the game need some work, I don't disagree. I never said there were no stutters and yes the stutters do bother me, I've only played about 5 hours. Perhaps I haven't ran into bad stutter areas so far. I did get them at the stairs in the DF video and fighting Tree Sentinal but those have been the only areas where I found them to be apparent with G-Sync and I generally am sensitve to stutter.

I a tusly turned gsync off to see if it made a difference and it didn’t. The DF video also says gsync will not make a difference with the micro stutters.

I think we all have a different level of tolerance.
