I have an OLD Rosewill Bronze 1000. I was going to connect the power to the MB on an X570 and see I have both a 4+4 for the MB and a plain 8 pin cable. They both fit, are they the same? Have not built a PC in five years and going slowly. Will an X570 power on without a CPU or mem?

1 x 4+4-Pin ATX12V / EPS12V Connector
1 x 8-Pin EPS12V Connector
rtfm to see if the board is either or. eps is for server boards and on some high end desktop, iirc.

Thanks, I think you said they are the same. Looks like I should go for the 4+4. Hope I haven't let any smoke out yet.
Aourus X570 elite. Appears to have only one 8 pin female on the MB. So not a real high end board.

EPS12v is an extension of ATX12v, so the 4+4 is interchangeable with the solid 8. Some consumer boards have the ATX12v only, some have EPS12v only, some have ATX12v + EPS12v, and some have 2x EPS12v. Your Rosewill is designed to handle any of the above. Of course, there are boards that can have more than the above, but they're extremely rare or are server/specialty boards.

I appreciate the help. I made a mistake even knowing I was doing it wrong and panicked. I put the board together with all wiring but no CPU and flipped the switch. Of course it wouldn't start, just a single flash of the bios flashing light that would flash steady if you were trying to do a USB stick bios upgrade. P.O.ed at myself after building a lot of electronics you know things you shouldn't do. I WONDER WHAT THE BIG RED BUTTON WITH THE SKULL ON IT DOES? Appreciate the help.

And some power supplies have unlabelled PCIe 8 pin power, which is a problem because both PCIe 8 pin and EPS12v are interchangeable in the motherboard connector, but have opposite polarity. Good thing that most PSUs have short circuit protection, and some motherboards have debug LEDs with codes to tell you the wrong cable was used.

Thanks, I popped in the 4+4 and so far no smoke.
