Battlefield 2042

Haven't played myself but I've seen people say that World War 3 is a better Battlefield than 2042.

Honestly my opinion is to go back to BF1, especially if it's been years since you last played. It'll stir up a whole lot of nostalgia and you'll become addicted all over again. Plus it has 29 maps so there's plenty of variety.

GG Dice. Nice to see you have your fingers on the pulse of the community.

Wasn't this a thing in the original "The Division" game, where Ubisoft was dropping loot in-game, and it was all hats? I mean, this was tried before, and it didn't do too much for community relations then.

I stopped playing the game specifically because the trans black woman's beanie couldn't be worn on the cringe white man who says all the stupid shit between rounds. As far as I'm concerned, game on.

If they had a sense of humor it would be a clown wig. Although clownfield might have grounds to sue.
If battlefield was just all clowns on each side and death noises were the nose honks and parachutes were big bundles of balloons, and had all the graphic quality of battlefield 4, i would pay retail for that.

To be fair, even though they bungled bfv it's still a pretty solid game. If only it had team balance, and some reasonable anti cheat. It was still a massive disappointment but it wasn't and still isn't a bad game. Unlike this steaming pile. I'm really glad I didn't buy 2042, the free weekend was enough for me to know I did the right thing by waiting.

I could get behind that, V wasnt bad but at the same time it made me miss 4 so something was missing for me.

I can't believe they never added in an auto team balance to BFV (especially since it existed in prior BF games). At least they have squad VOIP in BFV even if it's rarely used.
2042 down to 2,000-2,800 players on Steam the past few days, looks effectively dead to me. Sad about it, was planning on buying when it was 50% off but no point.

Yeah there are bits here and there that are okay, but generally the whole balance, lack of server browser, and operators is just a pain. I've yet to play half the maps. I know they're chasing the latest trends but Conquest and TDM are timeless classics that never get old.

I've gone back to Modern Warfare 2019 and Insurgency Sandstorm (co-op against bots).

Dice has flirted with excellence a couple times, but then managed to throw all that away and create something less good. Multiple times. Its frustrating as a fan of the franchise.

I'm still of the opinion that DICE just aren't good developers. They've done some good games but most have been rough at launch. BF2, hardly played, but had some good points. Bad Company 2 brought vehicle weight and a feeling of running which was needed. BF2 felt like you were floating compared to games like Red Orchestra. BF3 brought the game to modern standards, but it had some issues. BF4 generally improved upon it but it look a largely different studio (DICE LA) to get it where it needed to be. But once it did get there it was good. Everything else has been lame ever since.

I see it as more the same from DICE.

I thought BF1 and BF V were fantastic, especially the latter with infantry combat that feels amazing (very smooth and natural movement system combined with solid gunplay). My problem is I'm not really a fan of those eras (though I like WW2 planes but I do that in VR with IL-2 Sturmovik already). I like (among other things) my choppers and other modern vehicles because they are fast, punchy and with a ton of fun tools (lots of which were removed in BF2042) - so BF4 and BF3 have entertained me way more and far longer.

Bad Company 2 was also alright, including the very enjoyable Vietnam DLC. Can't speak for BF2 or earlier because BC2 was my first BF.

I thought you were kidding, but nope....barely scraping over 2000 players in the last two days. Pathetic.

Lol, so according to EA, steam reviews are bad and player counts have dropped 97% because of "performance caps on PC."

"Clearly, we didn't go wide enough with different player segments and we certainly didn't go deep enough with the game, so we did not bring players along with us, which is a big miss for the development cycle and process of this game."

In other words, they'll take what made the game suck and amplify it twofold next time.

Lol, well they can't blame this failure on telling gamers not to buy the game. Maybe they should hire that guy back, clearly they could do worse.

During a town hall EA blamed 2042's failure on... not knowing how to work with an old engine? They also blame Halo: Infinite? They also repeated the "brutal expectations" bit, but in a more "palatable" way. It just further reinforces how detached executives are from their audience.

They will do anything to not acknowledge they released a bad quality game missing key features. EA is talking to the end users like they are attempting to cover their asses to their management.

BF2042 doesnt have enough players to warrant additional major development. They are going to pretend to care just to shut up a few people, then kill of the game like Anthem.

Considering the only constructive way to fix the game would be to basically remake it and include all the missing features.... I remember saying back when bf4 was having problems that, you know no other game has this kind of dynamic weather, destruction, and the leveloution was really cool and complex. Cut dice some slack.
This time however, they basically cut everything that makes a battlefield game, then cut everything that team based shooters should have, but added weather? Oh and made it impossible to play with your freinds.

I recall that not being able to switch teams in bf5 was a big deal. Often in bf4 when my squad was playing on a stompy server we would all switch to the losing team and try to turn it. But now I can't even play with my friends? Wtf. So glad I didn't buy this crap.

If only people would hold off on their pre orders, use the performance of the early access events / final beta's and make their purchase decisions based upon reality EA would have a reason to improve. But.......

I didn't really get the chance because of RL to play the events. I pre-ordered based in loving Battlefield 4. Oops... Nothing I can do about it now though. I figured the whines were just the same kind of whining that always happens nowadays. I was wrong.

I get the real life thing. I only got about an hour to 90 minutes in the beta but from the hype I was very interested. BF2 was a turd for me coming from 1942 and Desert Combat, 1 was interesting but not very fun from the beta. The noise and common complaints from more fans of 2042 are what concerned me. If I had not been able to play the beta for me seeing that the beta was the same release as a few months prior I would have just waited till post launch reviews. Hype trains pick up some and run others over :(

I played the open beta and told my group that this game was shit. One member of our group, somewhat well connected, assured us that the experience we saw was nowhere near the final product. The amount of gaslighting that Dice did, was impressive. Also, peer-pressure is a bitch.

The amusing thing is that I actually have a modicum of fun with the game, but it isnt a daily play for me. Still overpaid, but at 18% off; but still overpaid.

played bf5 last night and what a difference. the maps are rich with detail. its hard to believe the same company made both games. what has dice been doing since bf5 came out in 2018? I dont understand why 2042 released so unfinished. I know people say it was a BR that switched to battlefield but dice already made firestorm. Making another BR shouldn't have been that time consuming. I dont understand what they've been doing the last 4 years.

They made a non binary specialist. That takes time. Geez man, get a grip.

So I'll try and get into a game. Emphasis on try. I want to see the split desert/agriculture map. But it always defaults to the same 3 or so maps, Breakway, the space center one, and the city map.

I've yet to play:

Renewal
Manifest
Hourglass

Seeing how few people are playing, I think I might never get a chance to try them.

Watching this game from the sidelines like a slow motion car crash. I wonder if it will kill the franchise and be remembered as one of the most disastrous games of all time, like a Daiktana?

They recovered from hardline... But this does seem a little worse.

I hope it doesn't kill the franchise. While I haven't played a BF game in a long time, I've been hopeful that they get it together. I would have really liked BF1 had they chosen to go a little more historically accurate gun-wise.

I didn't like the obsession with automatics either, but bf1 really is a great game. Excellent art, amazing sound, just remind yourself that it's not a history simulator.

Honestly I think they have one or two managers that must be absolutely hateful to work with and are compulsive and manipulative liars. If they aren't just trolling, it's hard to fathom management at DICE being decent human beings. Every single day there is another bit of info either from DICE or the project that any normal human being wouldn't allow or produce.
