How would you feel if Nintendo stopped making consoles and put their games on other platforms?

I don't know if I could get used to Nintendo games being on PS5 or Series X.

Indifferent? I lost interest in Nintendo first party games back in the GCN era. Boring gameplay and potato graphics as far as I'm concerned.

Metroid Dread does look kind of neat. But Nintendo would have to be smoking crack to think I'd pay them $300 for a game console that's less powerful than my Nvidia Shield TV I bought in 2015 (for less than $200 at that). Hell, my Pixel 6 is probably more powerful than that joke they call a console. So I guess I'd be happy to see that come to PC (or PS5 if they ever make enough of them to keep on the shelves).

I feel indifferent also. None of their games interest me anymore. I hate the direction they took with Zelda. My switch has been the least played Nintendo system.

Between indifferent and a bit sad at first.

Medium can influence the message and many decision over the time made and why Nintendo game and their aesthetic have been different than the other large budget AAA title is maybe in part because of the hardware difference (focus on handled, being different and not on performance). The very low memory but no loading of the N64 versus the CD rom competitions, The Wii movement based controller experiment that push game maker to make a game different.

Remove that harder difference and I am not sure how it does not end up just removing diversity with little gained in exchange.

I am not sure of your demo (how many kids and what age) but there is a significant chance that they do not imagine you would buy their console and find it perfectly ok.

It would be a great bummer. Because currently, they are single-handedly providing the portable console market. and have been for 5 years.

And whenever Steam deck is a thing you can actually realistically buy-----it can't compete on price.

Nintendo knows what they are doing and the sales prove it in spades.

I absolutely would not mind playing Nintendo games on other hardware. But, no other company is showing an Interest in providing affordable, portable hardware.

I never understood the desire of a handheld as a adult. If I am home I don't have time to game. If I got on a trip I have a gaming laptop which is far more powerful then the switch and steam deck. My switch never leaves the dock.

I have a pretty pimp 65 inch TV and my Switch spends like 90% of its lifespan out of it.

I dunno man turns out I like playing in bed. I guess I got used to it because I like the portable mode.

I’d be surprised and disappointed in the loss of the only one of the three console manufacturers that bother to try new ideas. Beyond that, I’d keep buying their games that interest me.

Nintendo is not just a horrible company, but their games are of no interest to me. I can't fathom how some adults can play games like mario kart and similar that are clearly made for children. To me playing nintendo games are about as exciting a concept as playing with duplos.

I play Mario Kart with my children, and we all have fun. Do I play it on my own? No, but I still enjoy myself when I play it with them :)

It's what sega did. It sucks, because it's one less innovator in the console space, but the games are still good as long as EA/etc keep their grubby mits off the IP.

I wouldn't care. For starters, that's literally what Nintendo did before they came out with their first console.

Simple: most of what Nintendo has released is just copies of everyone else, except tweaked.

The only exception to this rule is the Wiimote; but due to being stuck in a rut (you couldn't just add-in the Wiimote+, they had to add Software Support in every future game), they were stuck with the exact same outdated motion controls for the next 6-8 years; the worst part was, even Nintendo abandoned it ( most first-part Nintendo games didn't support it!)

Meanwhile, every major smartphone added 3d controls more quickly than you could actually find a Wii in stock at msrtp! And as for the Switch innovating? ? that was a blatant ripoff of the Xperia Play.

Face it - other than motion controls, none of Nintendo's modern gimmicks have ever been innovative/or if they were new, they never survived even a single generation! I mean, how can you folks forget all about the Wii-U, a portable Wifi iPad?

Screw Nintendo - they haven't tried in over a decade!

I am not sure why it matter, popularity of device is essential for big budget game to use it, who did come up with it in the first place sound irrelevant to the question:

Does a major player having a device of different specs than the 4 other major player (PC, PS, Xbox, Smartphone) lead to different game in any way ?

I am sure the Zelda game is a copy of many aesthetic choice over time, does a AAA title take that route if in the last 25 year's Nintendo released their games on the Playstation-Xbox, never had a N64, had access to CD rom from the start and so on ?

Many of Nintendo aesthetic choice gimmicks that was used to fit game on a 30 megabyte cartridge instead of having access to 650 to 3 gig with CDs did survive, I am sure many choice/gimmick that came from the constrain of wanting to work on lower device and slow Internet from world of Warcraft beginning survived to today.

I am not sure what would be gained in exchange, not needing to buy a cheap device ? Is there a large public of PC/PS5 gamers that care about those title and not have a switch to start with ? Would young kids family interested in changing ? For what ?

I'd be okay with it - their hardware platform isn't the most consumer-friendly (license transfers between consoles remains a nightmare) and when I play a Nintendo game, I rarely feel like "this could only play well on Nintendo hardware".

How can you be out here calling it for kids when you know how out of hand Mario's social events tend to get

Motherfucker has his friends fighting to the death over pits of lava for coins and stars

Still can't get the image out of my mind of Wario's skin sloughing off when I try to sleep at night

I would be beyond ecstatic. I'm sick of buying Nintendo systems that I don't want just to play 3-4 games. I'm also sick of those games always having a caveat to their greatness because of Nintendo's quirky-ass hardware. Playing Mario Kart, Smash, Zelda, etc. on a system pushing 4K/HDR/60+ with REAL online play would be a dream come true.

That said, I don't see it happening any time soon, if ever.

Nintendo makes money off of their hardware, unlike everyone else. So I doubt they would ever stop doing it.

Also, both the 3DS and now Switch are brilliant systems. Although personally I wish they'd give people the option of a higher-end model of something like the Switch that cost more, but offered better screen, etc.

They are not brilliant systems. They found a niche but not brilliant.

I had an Xperia Play. The Switch is nothing like it.

They are from a portable perspective. I love them. They're the perfect pairing to my high-end gaming PC. The Playstation & XBOX are completely useless to me. The 3DS and now Switch aren't, because they are portable.
Portable are useless to me.

Your point being?

Nintendo tweaks only; the idea was never theirs to begin with.

Also, as much as Switch fans want to just hand this huge fucking trophy to Nintendo for doing things slightly better than Sony, may I present the DiscomfortPlusPlus that is the Standard Joycons?

The Pro Controller + Dock were not it's largest selling point purpose (to be taken to a bar/airplane , then changing the Joycons into pathetic tiny things with variable layouts (depending on which joycon you draw, you lucky bastard!)

If Joycons are such a pleasure to use on-the-go, why did they go back to Cross dpad plus buttons on the Lite?

Name checks out.

My point? Why don't you reread what YOU wrote!

If you think the Switch is a ripoff of the Xperia Play, I would almost say you are just trolling. If anything, it would be similar to the PSP or PS Vita. And actually, the 8 way D-pad as we know it was essentially created by Nintendo for the game and watch series and then tweaked for the Famicom. Everyone has been ripping off that design for 40 years.

We get it. You don't like the Joycons. At least you have options with a Pro controller or joycon grip controller. You didn't have any options on prior handhelds.

Personally, I have a PS5 and a switch. I rarely take the switch out and play portably, but occasionally I do. I can't do that with my PS5. I get it that some people don't do portable consoles, but then there are some of us that grew up on the OG Gameboy who do.

Unless they make Mike Tysons Punch Out 2
I don't care about Nintendo the Punch Out for Wii was good successor.

I'm sure that you probably mean better GPU and CPU. But....otherwise, they released the OLED switch a few months ago. Larger screen, OLED, metal casing, better speakers, more internal storage, wired LAN in the dock.

You can't remove the joycons from a Switch Lite. So, there is no reason for the D-Pad to be buttons.

It would be great if Nintendo sold an official joycon with a real D-pad.

As far as comfort-----they are about as comfortable as they could be, while still being slim. I have some much larger joycons from a 3rd party. They are more comfortable. But....they add a lot of bulk and depth to the Switch. I would need a much thicker case, which would no slip as easily into a backpack/bag/purse.

I could see Nintendo consider selling wireless controllers that load, store, and play Nintendo games through smartphones and tablets. They hold the data, the phone/tablet does the rendering.

Talk about profit margins, there. Controller: $99. Game: $29-$59. Launch bundle, two controllers, five old games: $299.

That does sound very Nintendo'ish. They're all about selling their 80's and 90's catalog to Gen-X'ers again and again. Their kids just wanna play Minecraft and Fortnite, but dad keeps buying them Mario shit instead.

Ooh, nice, they're on sale. Need a NSO paid sub, though.

...also, this shit right here:

Or just hold the license even with the save file on the cloud for those who want multi platform. Thats brillant.

That's not a joycon.
It's got a real dpad, sticks to the side of the switch, and it's official. They're pretty good for games they work for, although I've yet to use them while mounted on the switch. I've heard the left one is actually usable like that, but not so much for the right side.

Edit, they also hook up to the joycon straps.

N-Cloud: $49 2-year subscription. Can play five more old games for free. N-Cloud^2, $99, good for two years, up to four accounts. That way they buy two bundles, N-Cloud^2, for $697.

Family pack on sale for $679 with two more bonus old games the whole family can ignore.

Hey Nintendo America, I can come up with this shit all day, and I hate my job. Call me.
