The difference being those had a weird form factor and were notoriously unreliable. HP and Compaq used them in their pre-builts. I can't tell you how many of those fucking things I had to replace due to failures. Hundreds and hundreds of them at the very least. We got dozens of them in the shop weekly. I did factory refurbs for Compaq at the time as well. I replaced a great many of those drives as well.Wow, 18 TB in one drive. Reminds of the 1gb quantum bigfoots. Probably cost just as much 25 years ago.

I bought the WD back during the holiday sales for the same price.
I bought the Bestbuy 8 of the 10TB drives a while back for $140 I need 16 new ones for a server just sitting in my rack. Any thoughts on when 18TB drives will be $200 or should I just go ahead and buy the 18TB drives at $239?Got a 14TB last month for $170 and an 18TB WD Red Pro for $239 the other day.
Costco has 8TB Seagates for $130 right now.
The 18 at $239 (if you can find it at that price again) is the same $/TB as the 14 at $185. the 14's are more likely to be down in that price range in the near future while the 18TB Red Pro should be in the 400 range till the end of the year..I bought the Bestbuy 8 of the 10TB drives a while back for $140 I need 16 new ones for a server just sitting in my rack. Yep, brand new and full warranty. Mine came with 0 poh and it took overnight to run a smart long test on it which came back clean. The Toshiba was only 16TB before (and was cheaper per/TB), and now I'm tempted to get one of those too--especially since it can be changed to 4kn from 512e according to the site. Are those new drives? That is a pretty good price.
I am not sure what the deal is with the 18TB drive I bought on Amazon. There were a few 3rd party vendors listing the drive for $239 or so, I bought one from chaste and got my shipping notification yesterday.
The drive is coming from Newegg. I am wondering if these 3rd party sellers got hacked and ordered the drives from Newegg to be drop shipped to the customers using stolen credit cards and then pocketing the cash
that we paid via Amazon.
$239 is nearly half off of what they normally sell for.
I don't see 18TB drives dropping to $200 even used until at least a year after the pandemic ends. The cheapest I've ever seen larger drives is maybe $8-9/TB, but that was for well used sas drives from an individual and not a retailer. There's a web site that tracks all the easystore prices and price history that would be a good reference to answer your question.I bought the Bestbuy 8 of the 10TB drives a while back for $140 I need 16 new ones for a server just sitting in my rack. I can't recall that website but just remember it's been posted here before in one of the other easystore threads. Hopefully someone can chime in and post it.Do you have a link?
Yep! I believe that's it!
I see a couple reviews stating that the validity of the warranty is a bit sketchy on those WD's. The Toshiba has no reviews, so I can't say18TB Toshiba or WD enterprise drive with 5yr warranty for just $335/349 shipped respectively ($18.61/TB and $19.39/TB):

I checked the warranty on my 18TB WD as soon as I got it. It says valid even though it's out of region. The only reason this didn't scare me is because OWC caters to mac people who would have a fit if they had warranty issues, so they're going to make sure there's no issues or self-warranty.I see a couple reviews stating that the validity of the warranty is a bit sketchy on those WD's. Where did you get the 18TB for 239?Got a 14TB last month for $170 and an 18TB WD Red Pro for $239 the other day.

It was on Amazon the other day from a 3rd party seller. Drive was shipped from Newegg.Where did you get the 18TB for 239?
Have you done a full smart long test on this drive? It seems like a legit pricing mistake, but could also just be a fake drive. I'd also run the serial number in WD's warranty checker and see what it says.It was on Amazon the other day from a 3rd party seller. Drive was shipped from Newegg.
I figured it was going to get canceled or I would receive something else so I only ordered one.
