The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt: Official Thread

The Witcher 3 free next-gen upgrade has been delayed until 2022

CD Projekt Red has confirmed that it's pushing the next-gen update release date back to sometime in mid-2022, along with the next-gen version of Cyberpunk 2077 for consoles...

It might be the best PC game of all time, IMHO.
Since the day this game came out I've been trying to play it, must've started it at least 3 or 4 times. I always get a few hours into the 2nd zone, around the Barren baby quest, before I ditch it.
Game puts me to sleep. So boring. It's like ambien.

different folks, different strokes. General consensus certainly puts witcher 3 in contention for best game ever.

Its the ambien that's putting you to sleep, stop taking that shit!

Try it once more, when the hook sets it sets deep.

Get through the Barron quest. If you don’t like it by the end of that quest move on. That’s plenty of time to find the hook.

I cant imagine spending the time to check an ancient thread for a 6 year old game to tell everyone you didn't like it.

The whole Barron quest is what the hook was for me. So many twists and turns, and everything about it is unique. It sets the stage up for the rest of the game to let you know that this isn't your copy pasta quest type of RPG.

Alright I’m hooked…6+ years after release. I bought the GOTY edition on Steam 2 years ago for $13, played the opening introduction scene, and never came back (distracted by other games). A few nights ago I reinstalled it for the hell of it and it’s pretty damn great. I’m playing with some visual mods (HD Reworked Project, Super Turbo Lighting Mod, etc.) but nothing that affects gameplay. I’m part way through the Barron quest and I feel like I’m at the top of a time-sink rollercoaster about to plunge down.

lol, I know how you feel, its one of the biggest time sinks.
I'm doing something similar, bought Skyrim Anniversary Edition and am lost in a world I last saw probably 5 years ago. Its still great and am finding things I didnt encounter on my first 3 play throughs.
Before I know it, 6hrs has passed!

I envy you.

Make sure to get Blood and Wine. Best and most significant DLC I can recall.

Barren quest is where I feel everything gets better. Time sink or not, once you start visiting more of the lands from there on out, it's truly epic. Not to mention some really good cut scenes and acting.

One thing I loved about my first playthrough was that I somehow managed to feel an even balance with world exploration/ side quests along with similarly progressing with the main story.
Not sure if that was a coincidence, intentional, luck or not, but that was really enjoyable to see.

Baron questline was one of my favorite questlines of all time in any game ever.
It really is a masterclass in storytelling and design. And it's one of the most "adult" quest stories I can think of. Both of the denouements are impactful and ultimately affect the overall plot.

Small things, like the constant rain, dialogue, and moribund setting stick in your head. I haven't played the game for a few years, but still recall traipsing through the mud in Crow's Perch.

I’ve played no other game but The Witcher 3 since making this post. 87 hours of gameplay later (Steam shows 118 but that’s incorrect) and I finished the main campaign. What a great game. On to HoS and B&W!

I still haven't ever fired this game up. I don't know where I even got my copy or for how much. It was either a freebie on GOG or it came with a video card or something. I am not sure. One day I'll try it.

I wish I could get into this game but I just can't seem to. I'm more into Sci-fi than fantasy but still enjoy fantasy based games. I really haven't found a game that hooked me in a very long time...

Somewhere along the way my mods broke and now I don't think I can ever recreate the cocktail that I used in my last playthrough, goodbye 150~ hours. I still had a few things I wanted to finish.

How far are you in?

i couldnt either, still sitting halfway through the first mission/section/whatever its called, the one that everyone says you have to push through for it to start getting good.
same. ffvii is the first ive played through to the end in the last 5ish years. rdr2 i got to a point were it hit me in the feels bad and havent touched it again in over a year. i have won a couple pga(2k21) tours though...
the show has perked up my interest though so i might try that "push" some time this year.

I've gotten passed the Nithral boss. Haven't played in a long time since. I often times get lost and not sure what to do next and start to wander around & get bored then quit playing. I got lost in the cavern/underwater part with the rats before the Nithral boss and almost quit playing.

Getting lost in Witcher and just finding random quests in the country side is quite enjoyable to some!

I've put this game down a couple times since release. First, to pause and wait for the expansion content so I didn't out level it. Then again because I moved/changed jobs and took a break from gaming for a long while. I finally acquired a modern video card and got back into it though! 126 hours in and almost level 50. Finishing up the main Blood & Wine storyline tonight!

Now if only Cyberpunk 2077 got the same reviews as Witcher 3...

For me, the best part about The Witcher 3 is its side quests. I often stumbled into something that I thought was minor that turned out to be great.
The baron storyline got me surprised near the end.

Aaaaand I never finished the main game, haven't even attempted the expansion. I think the game is too big for its own good :)

I have gotten in trouble with that a few times.. sometimes they are lvl 3 cannibals, other times level 9 bandits, or level 15 wraiths… and then they can be a level ?? that smacks you down

Like my 7th grade civics teacher, Mr. Sharp, used to say:
Sometimes you get the bear, Sometimes the bear gets you.

I'm waiting off on cyberpunk till latest updates hit and it's back on sale. I'm not paying anything over 20 though. Thinking might have made a mistake not getting it on Epic winter sale ..might not see it that cheap again. Also just because the reviews for cyberpunk are not as high as Witcher 3 doesn't mean you won't enjoy it as much. I have yet to get into Witcher 3 and I mostly bought it due to the reviews and praise people gave it.

I just beat this bad boy, it can definitely get it's hooks in you. I would say way better formula than other wb titles with similar run around and conquer an area then move to new one, specifically batman Arkham games, mad Max, lord of the rings games or even new god of war. Only better ones I have played are maybe horizons, and for sure Zelda botw. Netflix show is good too.

I'm just fearing I'll enjoy it less due to the high bar set by Witcher 3. I already have a copy so it's just a timing thing right now.

there is nothing they could do that would bring cp2077 up to the level of witcher 3, short of an expansion (free or paid dlc) that really nails the writing. that ship has sailed.. best they can do, even with the biggest and most significant of patches, is make it a bit less disappointing. imho of course.

Slightly off topic, but I am watching the Netflix Show and I am struggling here. On some levels I feel like this is some kind of new rock bottom. On another level I can’t seem to get enough of it!

This may be the first show I am genuinely embarrassed to watch.

Why would you be embarrassed? The show is highly rated amongst fans and critics (8.2 IMDB and 81% on Rotten Tomatoes). Casting was fantastic, great action scenes, good humor...not sure what there is to be embarrassed about.

The show is great. Nothing to be embarrassed about. The first season is kinda hard too follow with all the time skipping around.
