Cyberpunk 2077

I bit for $19 on the Epic Games store. Downloading now.

No idea about setting this game up, or playing it? Guess will figure out. I do wanna try the Ray Tracing

What graphic settings make this game look amazing, hit won't burn my computer down either? LOL

I have a RTX-3080, 32GB DDR4, and Solid State Drive.

Gaming on my 34" Ultrawide

Top of the line settings would be ultra, dlss to qualify, ray tracing to psycho. But be warned you need a 3090 to get respectable FPS at those settings. But man does the game shine on those settings. I average around 68 fps at 1440p resolution. At 4k it's in the 40s, even with a 3090. I play this game exclusively on my old 27" glossy 1440p monitor and it's absolutely stunning. That glossy monitor is only used for Cyberpunk. It's a shame they no longer make glossy monitors. Graphics jumps out of an all glass panel.

His 3080 will work just fine and only be around 10% slower than a 3090 in cyberpunk. It is rare that it will make settings go from playable to unplayable between a 3080 and 3090.

If the ultrawide is 1440p then you might have to set DLSS to balanced, rather than quality. Generally psycho is not worth it for raytracing unless you have fps to spare, but put it to high and leave most other settings at max or close to max. You can lower cloud quality and setting anisotropic filtering to 8 will give you a slight boost if your frame rate is borderline acceptable.

Ray-Traced Shadows, On or Off?
I've found that disabling individual RTX effects doesn't have large performance implications, shadows least of all. You'll get more performance gainz by turning RTX quality down to High and changing DLSS setting

Edit to add: Psycho is really not worth it IMO unless you have a 3090. Looks nice but performance hit is large.
Other than quality of the FX, the only thing that Psycho mode adds that is really enticing is Global Illumination- however that can be enabled in lower RTX levels by editing an ini-

EnableGlobalIllumination = True

True. I was thinking of maxed out settings at 4k. 3080 won't cut it. But at his resolution, your advice would suffice. Only thing I disagree on is Ray tracing difference from psycho to lesser. Night scenes with rain and lighting definately looks better at psycho setting than any of the lesser ray tracing settings.

The 3080 is fine at 4k, but it needs DLSS balanced but so would a 3090 to be playable (FPS jumping between 40 and 50 is not playable IMO). Ultrawide 1440p is not that far off 4k resolution. DLSS quality at 4k would be similar to running 1440p with DLSS off.

And how about those first bunch of Graphics options? I have them all Off;

Film Grain
Chromatic
Depth of Field
Lens Flare
Motion Blur

Or should I turn On?

DLSS balance or quality for me @ 3440 X 1440res on my RTX 3080?
Balanced I'd think, if you are using raytracing. My overclocked-to-the max 3070Ti can barely do 60fps at 1440 RTX + DLSS Balanced and a 3080 isn't thaaaat much faster, plus you're pushing more pixels.

Those don't have any performance hit, just cosmetic so set to taste. Personally I do
Film Grain OFF
Chromatic Aberration OFF
Depth of Field ON
Lens Flare OFF
Motion Blur ON

They are mostly stylistic effects mostly simulating lens artifacts and effects. Their impact on fps is minor.
Film grain simulates high is film or a bad digital sensor: off
Chromatic aberration simulates having a crappy camera lens with lots off artifacts: off
Depth of field simulates changes in aperture size: matter of taste
Lens flare is when light hits a camera lens and you get light bouncing around: matter of taste
Motion blur: matter of taste

DLSS balance or quality for me @ 3440 X 1440res on my RTX 3080?
Try quality first and then balanced. If you feel quality is OK then use it.

Just set everything on and to high and put DLSS on performance. I did that on a 2080 Ti at 3440 x 1440 and got a solid 60 fps. 3080 should be as good or a little better.

Not sure psycho ray tracing makes any difference. It lowered performance and looked the same. Maybe in certain scenes it is better, but not worth making the game unplayable the rest of the time (unless you have 3090, then knock yourself out).

I vaguely remember CDPR saying more or less that Psycho RTX was intended for cinematic screenshots and dick-waving and they discourage actually using it for gameplay. I don't have a source on that other than my memory though.

That comes from the global illumination that is only turned on when set to Psycho, which as just mentioned can be turned on independent of the game setting. RTGI is the primary reason to use ray tracing, so it's a complete waste to not use it. Shadows and reflections are just nice shiny side effects.

The difference in night scenes on Psycho mode may not be GI... I've heard that 2077 might only do full GI for the Sun and my own impressions seem to bear that out. There are some quality settings that get pulled way up on Psycho that can make it look noticeably better, but the point is it's usually not worth the performance hit.

re: Global Illumination in general, I totally agree that it's the underrated star of the RTX show in terms of creating a look that's extremely difficult to do with raster fx. I remember a specific mind-splitting feeling playing Metro Exodus with RT the first time where for brief moments things would look real in a hard to describe way that I never felt before playing a game no matter how boosted the gfx. I get that same feeling using the RTGI Shader for ReShade which I use on almost everything for the past few years.

I've gone so far in Cyber77 as to do super extra double bonus Raytracing- been trying out a lot of settings with m'new 3070Ti and found at High settings @ 60fps and a basic ReShade I can do 4K DLSS Performance with no RT at all, 1440P DLSS Balanced with either RTX High or ReShade RTGI, or integer scaled 1080P DLSS Quality with RTX High and ReShade RTGI. And honestly, I think I'm gonna go with 1080P maxxed effects for now. Quality DLSS does incredible things for microdetail and AA and the ReShade GI/AO and RTX GI/AO work well together to pick up each others shortcomings and make some "preem" results.

At the point on the game in the hotel, watching that Asian dude murder his Father.

Game so far is pretty slow paced at moments. Tons of quest dialogue, just sitting there.

I don't expect Doom Eternal or Destiny 2 type action, I know this is an RPG, but even Skyrim moves along quicker and gives more action.

This game feels very slow going so far. Just sitting or walking and chatting.

And that's how some of us like it. But there are intense action sequences also. Wait until you play that highway chase part. That part alone should have been used in the trailer for the game. Best animation I've seen in any game to date.

agreed. there are some glorious cinematic moments and for me lots of dialogue is a plus, I'm in it for the narrative as much as anything else. I play ultramodded w/"tactical" combat so action is intense but brief so I can get back to wandering around NC

There's a lot of action. The first part is just the story setup. Once you get into the open world, you can do whatever missions you want and it is action packed.

I'm kinda past the part where I'm Johnny aka Keanu Reeves, and met that Asain security guy, the old guys protector.

Took medicine to get better, and just had a long sit down conversation with him in the Diner restaurant.

Where would that put me in the game?

The game is long. If you want to complete everything, about 120 hours.

There is lots of story, sure, but most of it is woven between action, so it doesn't feel boring.

And you can ignore the main story and just go on side missions, those are mostly all action.

One thing I will say about this game, The atmosphere, the ambience, the immersion is pretty awesome.

After I finish playing for awhile, I'm still thinking about the game world and it's characters.

It definitely draws me in. Even though I'm not a fan of the 5 minute long quest chats that seem to drag on forever. Again I don't expect a Doom Eternal type game here, no way. But I thought it'd be a little more Rage 2, but it's rather slow going at times. But I do like it, game is growing on me.

3080 Ti FE here and 12700K and I maxed out everything with Psycho SSR and RTX Lighting. DLSS set to Balanced and get a locked 60fps at 3440x1440 for reference. You will gain more frames with DLSS on Performance.

I am now playing Red Dead 2 on PC and with similar config, settings now whacked up even under advanced settings and this game I have to say looks even more photo real than Cyberpunk does and achieves an average 87fps in the benchmark. It is a direct opposite to Cyberpunk's futuristic setting but in many ways more advanced and impressive graphically.

I mean stuff like rain dripping off surfaces is something Ive not seen in any game since The Last of Us series on the PS4.... Yet here we are finally.

Just look at it!

Rain dripping off the edge is easy to do, it's mostly just an art thing and a lot of games cut corners with things like that.

My characters walking very slow all of a sudden did I accidentally toggle some slow walk key bind?

Is there a key to press to disable the super slow walk?

EDIT;
My backpack was full, carrying too much stuff, had to drop a bunch to walk fast again.

Gotta say this Cyberpunk game world is getting addicting, really liking the feel of this game, and the story of the bad son killing the father, and getting down for some justice, and helping the old mans trusted bodyguard guy.

I wish there were more lifepath-specific dialogue options, the ones that are there provide some nice variety and backstory and it would have been neat to have more of that. Seeing them laid out like that shows how few are lifepath-specific compared to the massive amount of lines in the game overall

There are also dialogue options that open up depending on how you play the game. Like there are maybe 5 different ways you can "deal" with that pimp dude, but only 2 of them will be available unless you completed other story lines first.

yep, I do love that variability. I've started 8 playthrus and completed 5 of those and still see new convo options occasionally.

It's been a while since I finished the game now but I had a really good time with it despite it's flaws (bugs?). I didn't encounter so many bugs personally but I was more bothered about lack of content or stuff to do and the many various things that were showing off the rushed development pace (cmon what's with all those various items with absolutely no use or same stats all around).

But the story and the characters absolutely sucked me in, very nice immersion (the music also helped here, especially for the voodoo guys part) as the story telling and overall mission/sidequest quality and execusion were above what I'm used to, other games tend to have these repetitive patterns in missions you encounter with very little depth to them, here they genuienly felt varied, well thought of most of the time. That delamain taxi side quest alone was pretty hilarious.

For me it would have been much better if there was a little bit more stuff to do than just doing main story or side missions, like there could have been some national sports event of some sort, the racing one was a bit "meh", some type of sports you could also bet on for example and perhaps manage a team for and what not, a big minigame type of thing had been great. The items should have invidual stats/perks/boosts and not be same for nearly all items. The crafting system shoulld be revised for sure and you should have been able to visit a few more indoor type of places, perhaps more bars, malls, restaurants and such to make it a bit more "lively" feeling.

Sooooo many pop culture and gaming references in '77, love it. Specifically Portal I felt like there were a couple others too... a song on a radio station (either PEBKAC or Vexelstrom I think?) has samples/recreations of turret lines, and I'm pretty sure some of the "NPC searching loop" VO dialogue for Tyger Claws is scripted line-for-line from the Portal turrets

I am probably the only one that is waiting for GOTY edition and nvidia 4 series to run this properly in 4k. My 3080 should suffice in 4K but not with raytracing at max and DLSS @ quality.
