JOHN WICK 4 AND MATRIX 4 THREAD (All Keanu)

Finally watched it. Spoiler-free; I thought it was garbage. I didn't mind watching it, but I thought it was worse than the trilogy and it's probably the only one I will never rewatch.

More power to you if you enjoyed it, though.

I'm fine with that, provided you actually watched it. Not everyone needs to like the same things.

I just realized I'm liking comments made 2 years ago and I'm sorry...

Worst movie I've seen in a long time. Captured none of the feel of the original trilogy. My brother is watching it with me right now and he isn't a fan either (and he had a very very low standard), and I'm just reading reviews as the last half of this dumpster fire plays in the background.

It felt like the star wars prequels to me…. not a fan.

The first half I kept my hopes up. Then it kept getting worse and worse.

I definitely can relate. The whole thing is more of a soap opera for kids than a gritty sci Fi action film. The directing, fights, and lighting felt like a made for TV movie on TBS.

Wow...who would have thought there would be polarizing views in this thread :)
I'll be watching it later
Big fan of the first, liked the second...third was total meh!
Saw Matrix 1 in the cinema again on the 20th anniversary. It was awesome to see it on the big screen again.

Wow.. so I gave it an attempt. 1 hour into it, and I was bored out of my f'ing mind. Glad I didn't pay for this because this movie is a slap in the face to anyone that even pays for this garbage.
You guys praising this must be easily entertained and probably get a joy out of watching paint dry also 🤣

Yeah, I'm a huge Matrix fan. Saw the original opening night. I loved the new one.

Saw every spin-off and game. Read every book on Matrix philosophy. Even read Simulacra and Simulation because of the association.

I just can't believe how good it was. Lana Wachowski has crafted a masterpiece, but it's not the dark gritty cyberpunk film maybe people were expecting.

Also, I just enjoy movies (or games or whatever) and I'm happy with my life. Life is too short to spend it hating and upset.

I will say to those spouting the whole "This movie was purposefully bad because *meta* and you didn't understand it" are just as delusional as those saying it's bad without ever watching it.

I will take Joker from Better Bachelors response to the movie, that he watched, over anyone else's opinion, including yours. Therefore, I will not waste money on a movie that makes the made for Netflix movies seem like an award winning tale.

Okay, I found it. WTF. (Also, please don't watch it cause he ruins the movie with spoilers everywhere).

Honestly, I feel like I lost some brain cells with the Joker dude. I actually got dumber by watching a video.

The guy obviously has no context and no ability to understand the movie. It went completely over his head. He says he was so confused himself multiple times, and the movie is not confusing (well maybe the first part, but it makes sense later).

And that's fine. Not everyone is going to have the capability to understand a movie this complex. It's just sad that Lana Wachowski has crafted a masterpiece whose genius seems to have been lost on the general population.

Plus you have people like this Joker hack-job and random internet "journalists" with no business reviewing a movie they are just not on the level to get. But whatever, I know what Wachowski was doing, and she pulled it off.

Damn.

Almost as disappointing as BF2042 is.

Don't even know where to begin, but what a cluster f***.
2077, 2042 and Matrix tells me that nothing great was created during the pandemic.
Anything else important, please wait until we enter into the endemic phase. JW4 being delayed is a good thing.

LOL! Oh wait, your serious? :D It is the Matrix, it is neither complex nor a masterpiece but ok......... :D

Nothing great has been created in a long long time, except for Red Dead Redemption 2. In the movies, nothing at all in a very long time.

I saw this and I just don't understand why it was made. It resolved nothing, it answered nothing, it literally did nothing to move the story forward. I did not enjoy this movie at all.,

So I watched it a third time. First on 4K HDR for the full quality, then on a 125" projector for the big screen, and just now on an ultrawide so I could see without letterboxing. It's the best movie ever and better than the first one. I'm going to stand by that.

While I'm at it, Cyberpunk 2077 was the best game ever made. But I guess it's hip to be a hater on the internet these days. If it were up to me, I would make bitching about good movies and games a hate crime.

The plot didn't bore you?

What exactly makes you love it? I am honestly curious. To me, when I think about it, it lacked any sort of plot or character growth.

Like I mentioned earlier it felt a lot like the Star Wars prequels or even Picard....

OMG! The Matrix Resurrections is simply amazing. Not sure what the reviewers were smoking (or rather, not smoking) but it's the best movie ever! I'd say even better than the 1999 film. I'm not playing. You have to watch it.

Well, obviously it can't blow your mind as much as the first movie did in 1999, but it's still quite a mind fuck. Though, I think the new movie, in 2021, is more culturally relevant than the original in 1999.

But it only makes sense having seen all the movies, games, and spin-offs over 20 years. So Resurrections could not stand alone (while the first movie was fine, even if they made no sequels).

It was just so good. I'll have to watch it later tonight again on the 125" projector. I can't believe they pulled it off. Also, as someone who used to work in San Francisco as a game developer, the early plot is very true to reality.

And besides that, the action was great. That scene on the Tokyo train was unbelievable. And the fight choreography in general I think was way better than any previous movie.

Obviously in 1999 Keanu Reeves was not a big action star (The Matrix was his break out movie) but in 2021, after John Wick, I think he actually does know Kung Fu. So it was way more believable.

So I don't know. I read some of the reviews online and I think these "journalists" have no basis for what they are saying and are not qualified to publish a review for a movie like The Matrix Resurrections. They just didn't get it.

You should give Pig a try. I really related to it, and it was very well done.
That was a surprisingly good movie.

That conversation Cage had with the chef at the fancy restaurant really hit me hard. Also, you're apparently supposed to wait for the entire song to finish at the end of the credits. It's a nice little thing.

Stop trolling

What exactly makes you love it? I am honestly curious. To me, when I think about it, it lacked any sort of plot or character growth.
I thought the plot was great. The pacing I think was better than previous installments, it moves fast and there is a lot to take in (especially for a 2 and half hour movie).

Most people hated the meta aspect, but I love meta jokes. For the first act, you can see that it's not taking itself seriously, but by the end it is very serious.

The way they weaved the original story into the new movie was crazy. Rather then feeling like a rehash, it felt like something new and bold. Not many directors would even attempt this.

This was a clever tactic, because trying to make a reboot fully original would have been a waste and probably not as good. But they took the elements of what made the first movie great and deconstructed them and modernized them.

I thought the social commentary was superior to the other movies. While the first movie was a classic, not knocking that, the sequels missed a lot of the more interesting philosophical points. While the new movie is more surface level and not as deep as the original, I think it works since we already know what it's about.

In terms of the characters, I liked the design. I think visually it was amazing (in terms of their outfits, hair, tattoos, etc.). The growth arc could have been better, I agree, but I would rather have a fast paced movie. The original was slow in comparison. So they didn't have time to develop the characters as much, but many of them we already know.

For me the action was much better. I liked the set pieces, that whole Tokyo train, the office, the warehouse, just all the locations I think had a new modern style. And I like the new kind of John Wick / Jason Bourne choreography. And Keanu is a much better action star than he was in 1999.

I liked that it had romantic aspects, the movie is a romantic-action film. Not everything has to be a comedy. They made it work. While the original trilogy always had a romantic aspect, they made that the core of the movie and it was original.

Finally, while the original Matrix was probably one of the best, or the best, movie of all time (not counting this new one). The aesthetic is played out. That dark green raining cyberpunk theme is just old. The new movie is bright and colorful, but still tackles the same themes.

I felt like this made it more believable. Because it wasn't some alternate reality, it was our modern day 2021 right now (with all the cell phones, and the tech start-up, the coffee shop, everything). They made it relevant to today in a way that I think most movies miss.

Was it perfect? Maybe not. I think the first act was (purposefully) confusing and this may have turned some people off. In the original it started more slowly, though it was confusing, you didn't really understand what was happening until like 1 hour in.

But here, you already have an idea, everyone knows what the Matrix is, you have some clue from the trailers how it's going to play out, so they didn't get as explicit with it (which was a problem with the 2nd and 3rd movies where they tried to explain too much).

After watching it 3 times, the movie is not confusing at all. It is very clear, but it won't probably make sense unless seeing it twice. The 2nd and 3rd acts aren't confusing, but the first part has a lot of little things that are hard to get without knowing the full deal already.

So I don't know. I really liked it. I can understand why there are mixed reviews, cause they took a big gamble, especially with the meta and 4th wall breaking aspects of it. It was a bold move, but I think it paid off. Though I also liked the whole original Matrix trilogy, I thought the 2nd and 3rd films were great.

Hit me right in the feels!

all that ^^ sums up mostly how i feel, minus the first being best movie of all time. i really like it but #1 is a tough choice for me. ill probably watch it a third time tonight.
there are three things that really bug me though:
1: the stupid blending in of the operator for more actor screen time.
2: the stupid robot names.
3: merv. why even bother if all he does is ramble a bit and then run away. edit: when you turn the subs on merv's rambling is actually really good commentary on social media and entertainment. the analyst created all that crap to control people better, keep 'em blue pilled.
i might catch more and ill edit this list
edit: "thats the power of love" keeps coming to mind too.

on the third watch with subs enable i caught more stuff. i like it and am still wtfing about all the odd takes on it, imo.
