S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2: Heart of Chernobyl

I wish they remaster the OG STALKERS and incorporate some of the best mods, cause I remember the OG STALKER games have CPU performance issues.

The original games don't have any issue running on modern hardware.

I doubt this is coming out in April 2022...expect a delay announcement

I hope they delay it. The first game had amazing trailers and cool features that were cut from the game, and only able to be added back into the game via mods...
It's been forever since I've played, I played with the complete mod back in 2012?
What are the best mods for the first game currently? Something to hold us over until 2 comes out.

You realize there's a separate thread on this very forum about the best STALKER mod available, right?

I hope not. But I think it will. Same with Atomic Heart.

the Atomic Heart developers said in August that they are pretty much done and are "at the stage of polishing and final assembly"...they also stated that they don't want to give an official release date because most developers are careless with dates and then end up delaying it...so I have more confidence in that coming out before S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2

S.T.A.L.K.E.R 2 New details and screenchots

The December issue of PC Gamer magazine features STALKER 2 on the cover, but hunting around in advance of that, I found some new info on aroged.com.

Several new screenshots and confirmation of a new creature ("psy-deer") and free deathmatch + team-deathmatch multiplayer post-release.

Otherwise not too much new here... maybe the PC Gamer exclusive will contain more tidbits.

Multiplayer DM huh...could be fun. Hope it doesn't detract from the SP experience. I hear that the game is going to be a 200GB install...

I wonder if the S.T.A.L.K.E.R series will still resonate with gamers today...it seems to have been somewhat remade with the Metro 2033 series

Original STALKER had multiplayer, but like most tack on multiplayer modes died quickly. Not sure why they're bothering. Unless it is some free to play thing that they can monetize. Game would actually work if they did some Tarkov style thing. But I have little interest in such a thing.

According to GSC Game World, over thirty quest designers have been working on the plot of STALKER 2: Heart of Chernobyl. The estimated length (likely including side content) is around a hundred hours and non-linearity will be a key factor as players progress through the game

that sounds epic!

That is a really long game. I'm not a fan of super long games but maybe they'll make it work. As long as it isn't so tedious and doesn't become like "Ubisoft style" exploration it might be doable. STALKER games were smaller but had natural exploration. You'd see something in the distance and approach it. Or the game would point you in the general direction. I am hoping it isn't a map full of icons to clear off.

Thanks for jarring my memory, I remember now...

No disrepect to Metro, but those games didn't attempt to tackle something as open and complex as STALKER. The vibe may be similar but the world and gameplay are not. There really is no other game like STALKER even now.

was it really as open world and complex as you remember or is that just nostalgia?

Playing it now, its definitely not nostalgia, there's no limits to it, you're free to do what you want to do and make it as easy or difficult as you want it to be.

Metro is more like a by-the-numbers linear FPS. They opened it more with Exodus, but it still doesn't have the complexity of the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games.

I had fun with Metro, it was a good game with a lot of memorable moments (The Librarian ) I didn't like the fact that it was a rail shooter, even above ground, you were kind of pigeon holed into only choosing one direction. The NPC interaction was amazing though, I loved the theater scene in the second one.

90% of it will be filler garbage i bet.

I’m cautiously excited for this - but this being funded by Microsoft is very concerning. I’ve been playing STALKER since the super early leaked build back in the day. Haven’t kept up with current mods, but OGSE, STALKERSOUP, Nara-whatever-the-fuck slavjank full conversion, Lost Alpha, and CoC were some of the best times I’ve had with any PC game.

This was the slavjank one - highly recommended! https://www.moddb.com/mods/solyanka

Fuck....Microsoft is involved?! Great. Well, we'll have to rely on the modding community to fix it then, yet again! They do such a good job though.

Call of pripyat had 5 different ending sequences depending on how you allied yourself throughout the game. For it's time that was very surprising and the world was yours to do as you pleased in any way you wanted.

Nowadays the generic "fetch item X from Y and return to Z" or "go to A and kill B" quests ought to be procedurally generated.

I'll be optimistic and hope actual people are being used to write custom side quests with non-generic goals to accomplish.

or quests and/or game mechanics that don't just point you where you need to go to get said thing.

I like the premise of these games, and I enjoyed the Metro games, but everytime I tried to get into any of the original STALKER games I ran into serious bugs and immersion-breaking moments. I'm willing to give the franchise another try though, and I hope this game is solid.

You should definitely play Stalker Anomaly, I can't praise it enough, its free and it combines all the Stalker games together. Its very stable and I haven't run across any bugs. There are lots of cool addons (mods) as well to enhance your experience, (stick to the ones put out in 2021)
