Forza Horizon 5 (Mexico)

What ever happened to AI convoys? I never played FH4 but I did play FH3 and one of my favorite features was that you could honk at AI drivers to get them to follow you around and race you to objectives. FH5 feels so lonely without these. Multiplayer convoys seem so unreliable. Whenever I join a random convoy and suggest doing an event, I get no response whatsoever.
that AI convoy feature was bizarre but kinda neat. but i agree about convoys and just the multiplayer structure of FH5 (and 4.. and 3..) in general. it all feels very "pick and choose-y" in that you need to go into it with something specific in mind (i.e. i wanna do road racing, i wanna do minigames, etc) which really goes against the whole open world environment they keep trying to build up. tbh i'm not even sure what the ideal way to do it would be (i'd have to ruminate on that for quite some time) but this ain't it, that's for sure.

Seems like they created online boundaries to the map for the Horizon Life feature, which would explain the feeling of emptiness while roaming the map and connected online compared to prior entries. Seems like this approach has completely broken the game, and whatever they did to alleviate server issues has made it worse. I don't see any traffic at all if I start the game in online mode. In prior games you could open the map and scan the whole thing to see where people were congregating in your Horizon Life session. In this game you can only see those in your immediate vicinity. It's a sad state of affairs and makes doing emergent events like Horizon Arcade nigh impossible.

exactly! i've noticed the "zones" as you driving around (esp. if you're hauling ass) as it lags and re-connects and loads the cars of the "new" players.

one wonders how (or if) they can correct issues like these in updates. there's so much to like in the game but now i regret going against my gut instincts and re-buying after my first refund and going past the 2 hour limit. this is just one of those games that's very good at sucking you in with the amazing graphics and general "wow" factor and hiding the bad stuff that takes some scrutiny to reveal.

What makes it worse is it always seems like players are spawned in an adjacent "zone," and when I try to drive toward them they all disappear as I cross into that "zone" myself. I've also hopelessly been trying to complete at least one Arcade even to no avail. I've otherwise been having fun in random coop races.

I've gotten nearly 60 hours out of the game already. Just have to finish the stories and the 20 or so exhibitions that are left. I think I'll be done after that, which is typical for Forza Horizon games for me. I may stick out the rest of the first series just because. I'll check out the expansions when they come out. Hopefully the online situation will be better at that time.

I just bought the premium edition, plan to get through the solo stuff. Always enjoyed the Forza Horizons but never have owned one of the games, and have not had an XBOX past the 360. Playing on PC w/DS4 controller (wireless), extremely low lag input....couldn't tell from console/controller latencies.

Difficulty for the story missions = almost laughably inconsistent. The drift missions and half of the race missions give you 3 stars for doing almost anything. Quite a few races allow you to drive straight for the finish line and and totally ignore the roads. Yet about 1/4 of those checkpoint races want a run that borders on flawless. With randomized traffic, some runs literally are impossible unless you restart and get better traffic placements. They're almost refreshingly difficult because of how mindlessly easy the other ones are.

Bro anything to get me through that dialogue they wrote and never hear it again.

If anybody is doing The Trial this week for the seasonal event I recommend down tuning a C8 Corvette instead of using the i8. I have a tune that I shared that is A800 with AWD and it grips in the torrential rain. I just need to find where to get the share code. It looks like plenty of other people have discovered this, though, but people are still using the i8.

You should try playing Need for Speed Heat, Dirt 5, or any of The Crew games. At least the people in FH5 are kind of normal...and the conversations are short. NFS Most Wanted (the original) is probably the only racing game that had a plot that didn't make me cringe.

No thanks, lol. The dialogue in NFS has been horrible for a long time and I haven't touched the series since Carbon. Gaming doesn't exactly attract the best writers though there are obviously a number out there.

The last daily of the storm season was broken if you already did all the expeditions. You apparently are not given credit if you've already completed them all and try completing one in a replay. Outside of that I finished all the stories and exhibitions on Wednesday night. Nothing left to do other than play out the rest of the first series like I had planned.

Now I have to try to get the original NFS games to work on machine. Curse you!

As I'm starting to near the end of the races/stories I have left, I have to admit I wish there was some more variety to the courses. They're pretty much all either point A to point B with/without checkpoints or "just slam the gas and steer side to side." There are occasionally jumps, but not that many.

There are some user-created maps that involve Mario Kart-like jumping, bouncing, driving up walls, hitting the most bowling pins, and mixing+matching the different goals. Makes me wish the game had more of that. My favorite stuff in the game has been user generated for the most part. More car variety, too. I feel like tuning my cars ends up just creating a bunch of clones that fall into 3-4 categories. I almost wish tuning wasn't an option and they just assigned you a different car for everything.

My issue with the included race layouts is that a lot of the superb road they created seems to be squandered when it comes to creating actual race layouts. Even the standard racing layouts the community are creating are better than what PG have done. The Gauntlet is probably the only PG-created race layout that is any good.

i think im done with the game until DLC1 comes out.

There are a shitload of bugs in this game and tbh im glad they were left out of the recent video game awards. This game is nearly as broken as GTA Definitive Edition. I can list off around 150 glaring bugs and glitches.

Finishing up the main races, moved my difficulty up to Pro...Unbeatable is a bit too tough, but doable with proper setup vehicles, some patience, and a hint of luck. To me seems there are a handful of vehicles that will stomp over all the races with ease, so using the variety of the +500 cars would not work too well other than cruising around.

The arcade races are absolute crap. PVP traffic is lame when online and broken when trying to complete events that need it. I plan to only login and do the seasonal stuff once I get the main races completed, and all the 3-star accolades. I am not sure if it is my internet, but get random disconnects but can reconnect with the touch of a button....happens 10 times are day and randomly.

I have about 40 hours into it and about 75% full completion.

What kind of bugs and glitches are you encountering? I've had some visual quirks with going to one of my houses, but I can't think of anything else.

Same. I'm now over 100 hours of play time and the only issues I am encountering have to do with online play. Disappearing traffic and players in Horizon Life, rampant syncing issues in multiplayer lobbies, etc. Some of the accolades also are not working properly.

The online components are mega borked. Lots of work is needed on AI and some further optimization.

Still having a hell of a time

For sure. I thought I had spent half the time with the game I've actually done. I was surprised to see my total play time is now a little over 108 hours. A little annoyed last night that I tried to do the "high ground" achievement for a rivals even in 3 different PI classes using the same car and it didn't unlock for some reason...

I completed my last story mission and just bought the last house on the map. I've done all of the long-ass races that cover the whole map at least once, too. I think I'm going to leave the game installed, but step away for a while and see what they do/don't add.

I think the Rivals is fun? I see only two of you I think though.
I've been doing some Rivals events recently, but still haven't done a lot of them. I've done around a dozen or so. I'm usually getting matched up to Gryfter, but I don't know who that is on the forum.

Been playing horizon solo. Level 209 now. Still got some races to finish but I still feel the horizon series peaked with forza horizon 3.

More vehicles than ever that I don't care to drive. Mexico seems very sparse to me. The trailer about the volcano stuff seems like a severe lie.

I tried a online team race and that is just a bad joke.

Hate to say it but this game is just a big MEH.

New patch addresses Arcade issues and fixes several other things. Hopefully we can actually compete Arcade events, now.

16GB update on windows. Looks like some of my races got reset to "new".
Didn't have that issue, but this patch did introduce a lot of hanging/softlocks for me on both PC and Series X. And for some reason I lose all control of the game when I visit and leave my house. At least I was able to complete a bunch of Arcade events and got the majority of achievements unlocked.

A hotfix was released yesterday that fixed the softlocking issue on console. Nothing for PC, but I fired it up on PC last night after updating to the newest GeForce driver and wasn't having issues anymore.

Another season, another broken challenge. This time it's the treasure hunt. Just waiting for the smashable challenges so I can get my last achievement.

I did pretty much all there was to do (at least everything I wanted to do) and uninstalled it. I enjoyed it, but I don't really have a reason to play it anymore. I could unlock more cars and configure them all to handle the same way I guess. IMO, the situation is like that for most every racing game, though. The earlier Burnout games are the only ones I recall going back to over and over, and much of that was because of the wreck mode.

Got around 100hrs now. Close to 500 cars. Finished all the solo races. Just doing SP farm grind last few days. They really don't give enough credits for racing.

I have a hard time putting the game down even after finishing almost everything. Need to move onto other xbox gamepass games now.

I'm just waiting for two more collectable events so I can get my last achievement before the expansions come out.

In other news, Gavin Raeburn is leaving Playground Games. He headed up all the Horizon games as Studio Director since the first one that came out in 2010. Fellow co-founder Trevor Williams will be taking over the Studio Director role with Raeburn's departure.

you know what's actually kinda shocking if you think about it? how bad the music is in most of the horizon games, when half of the entire basis behind the "horizon festival" that underpins all the games is supposed to be music.

you can really tell their music "curator" is a bonehead just by the 3rd grade level "i heard that song in a cartoon once" choices in the classical station.

Not to mention the absurd censoring of some songs to keep the 'E' rating. And some internet personality was chosen to pick the soundtrack for the XS station. She is American, born in America to American parent, but was apparently chosen as the "Mexican" representation in the game.

Sadly, the soundtrack of the first Horizon is still the best.

This week's season has the fifth collectible challenge for the achievement if you have been getting them since the early access week. That was my last achievement for the game until the expansions come out.

Anyone have some optimized settings targeting 4k/120FPS on a 3080/3090? I just started playing again and am trying to make the game look as good as possible at high framerates.
