That depends when you last asked. Is there a new firmware released for this monitor yet?

Maybe a classic case of:I have a feeling this monitor was just not tested at all after finishing the R&D and manufacturing of it. I get this feeling they said, just push it to the market and we will fix it later through firmware.
Feb 2022When does acer release their variant?
1440 pee is gross.....I mean shit I just sent the X38 packin as 1600pee is too dated. If your gonna spend $2500 may as well save up and get a real monitor...PG32UQX
Wake me up when we got a curved 38" 5120 x 2160 2000+ MiniLed Fald Zone, HDR 2000+, 175+hz display

Ya I almost pulled the trigger last night seeing as with military discount I can get the Neo out the door for $1,880 right now.
While it would look epic on my desk, a few things are holding me back:
1. Fish eye effect in most games, which I absolutely loathe.
2. RTings tested the latest firmware and basically doesn't meet even the HDR1000 standard.
3. They tested it as having one of the slowest full pixel transition speeds of any 240 Hz monitor.
4. My main game is BF2042, and even the fastest CPU's max out around 120 FPS making a 240 Hz monitor for that game rather pointless.
Typically reducing FOV by like 10 eliminates the fish eye. I don't think you guys can tolerate the drop from 4K to 1440p. It looks pretty soft and gross unless you really embrace the monitors other benefits over the low resolution.

Is the new firmware worth updating to ? Any issues? v1.06 working great for now.
IMO what makes it the best PC monitor overall is it's contrast + motion clarity. It's contrast is that of a flagship VA TV while not being far off a OLED in motion clarity at 120hz and surpassing it above that albeit with some very very minor overshoot that goes unnoticed 98% of the time (and I'm super sensitive to overshoot). If they could pump HDR highlights just a bit more it would be the undisputed best monitor but it's an acceptable compromise when it's outperforming a PG32UQX in contrast and motion clarity by massive amounts and by that I mean it's literally 3x as clear in motion to my eye and actually produces black in dark content.
Put them side to side and see for yourself. The PG32UQX is unacceptably smeary to the point that it's intolerable to me. Also when I did lots of HDR comparisons, I found the same scenario play out between OLED and HDR monitors. The Samsung doesn't get as bright with highlights but it being capable of 3x the contrast ratio offsets it quite a bit. I dunno, I just think most HDR game content on PC doesn't really benefit much from beyond 1000nits ATM. That "eye searing" brightness you're referring to rarely manifests in highlights and is more the fact that it can do 50% windows at 1200nits (entire skybox) which gives the perception of crazy brightness.
I dunno, I'm more impressed with HDR in contrasty situations with lots of highlights surrounded by dark. Something like Farcry 6 where a PG32UQX just has to flex 1200nits full field is kind of superficial to me, yeah it's brighter but not really to any benefit for me.
What local dimming setting are you using? 1008 firmware broke gamma in SDR when using local dimming high so you have to set it to auto. Some people have reported washed out HDR but I'm not experiencing that. Forza Horizen 6, Doom Eternal, Valhalla all look as they should.I have a love hate relationship with this display. I dont think ill keep it, but I have another month to play with it and make up my mind. If HDR could be livened up I might consider keepin.
The form factor is awesome, 240hz is awesome, Colors & contrast are great...its a ton of fun for older shooters....only thing holding it back from being good for modern shooters is I can't tell if its HDR is getting washed out or weak lol.
Colors are much more impressive on desktop with HDR OFF than they are IN GAME with HDR ON.
This reminds me of how shitty windows 10 was with HDR being washed out when it was new.
Ive got the latest firmware update...running HDR dynamic as it seems to be better than other HDR setting. Im running it with VRR off and adaptive sync OFF.
Im gaming on windows 10 with an RTX 3090.
Cali, is this the same for you?

I'm using a 3090 too and have no problems. If all else fails downgrade to 1007 and see if it's improved but before that try pulling power because that's what Samsung instructs you to do after firmware update.
FYI 1007's EOTF is really bad which is what 1008 improves but to me it's still pretty bad (dark stuff is too dark and bright stuff is too bright). They have been on a 1 month release cycle for firmware releases so 1009 should come any day now and hopefully bring further improvements.
updated the firmware. what settings are you running on the monitor? Anything specific you recommend changing to get the 'best' experience? First ultrawide - enjoying it so far. lelLOL Baaahhhaaahahahahashhhaaaa you serious? Uhhh yea, update that firmware, duh! Its super easy and takes less than five minutes if you got a USB stick layin around.

Did you return the PG35? How does it compare to the Neo outside of the obvious being a slower panel?Yeah I think we might see it hit 1100-1200 nits peak by the time this firmware circus is over.
Right now it's only doing like 850-900nits on highlights. Even the heat thing doesn't make sense though. The PG32UQX uses that slow as molasses panel for the sake of indefinitely sustaining 1600nits. Neo is clearly capable of 2200nits for a few seconds on tests slides which is all that's really necessary for brief highlights like explosions, sparks, etc. I think it might just be incompetence on Samsungs part. I mean how do you completely mess up HDR EOTF and crush blacks this bad across 3 firmware updates.
Nah I still have it just in case I ran into issues with the Neo which I currently am and trying to trouble shoot (random black screen in HDR games). PG35 is noticeably brighter in HDR and IMO it's color performance is worse. It also has much worse viewing angles, especially vertically where if you're not dead center the top or bottom will suffer from gamma shift.Did you return the PG35? Thanks for the update I am still thinking about picking up a pg35 since the price is good but not really sure even at the discount if it's worth it for that old monitor at this point.Nah I still have it just in case I ran into issues with the Neo which I currently am and trying to trouble shoot (random black screen in HDR games). As a pure HDR display it out performs the Neo currently because it actually displays HDR as intended and gets brighter. Every where else though it's pretty far behind. FALD zones are massive in comparison and it's FALD performance is really bad next to the Samsung which is much more refined. Lastly the pixel response advantage of course where the Samsung is in another league. Also the fan noise is present and on mine went from relatively quiet early on to now being pretty noticeable in a quiet room.
Ah that might be it then. Let me give a try. Thanks for the heads up.Thanks for the update I am still thinking about picking up a pg35 since the price is good but not really sure even at the discount if it's worth it for that old monitor at this point.
There was a nvidia driver problem that was causing random black screens here recently not sure if related in your case but try the new 496.98 hot fix if you have not.
Yeah SDR it's amazing. This is basically what you're referring to in HDR though which is best case scenario for the PG32UQX (mostly brightly lit scene/content where local dimming has little influence and it can flex it's brightness) :SoCali, thanks for the comparison to the PG35 I was wondering how NEO stacked up.
lol...so now I am waffling back over to the keep it side of things as SDR looks so dang good and there is nothing else out there on the market like it. 240hz motion clarity + best SDR FALD I have ever seen gets addicting!
Well I have until Jan 2nd to make up my mind...im sure ill waffle thirty more times by then.
