I see lots of debates about PG32UQX local dimming and the algorithm. Is it really bad ? I mean i have Acer X27 FALD and it's breathtaking. I can only imagine they improved it and made it even better. Only difference i saw from reviews is the most aggressive fald setting have inverse blooming which is not the case with my X27. I use it with most aggressive setting and it's fine 99.99% of the time.
Can someone share the service menu of 32UQX. I'm really curious what they did with the new iteration. X27 uses ''auto'' ''4000'' tonemapping and locked 80 reference white. 80 is about 30% brighter than it should(i've measured it) so not perfectly tuned. Tonemapping depends on content. If maxcll is reported to the display it uses that value to tonemap, if not it defaults to 4000nits tonemapping which isn't great tbh (makes 1000nit content 600nit). Sometimes it uses locked 1015 nits profile i assume it's 1415 on PG32UQX.
It's phenomonal. Upgrade from the X27 in every area.

If you are guna complain all day, its actually good to atleast mention the retailer name so other people can stay away from them. Uou are noy being helpful and just complaining on public forums while not giving important information. Just think about it lol. This isnt your personal venting website. Because it's the only real discussion point on this monitor. Take away the FALD and you have a generic slightly below average 4k display.

I saw those have been back in stock at a good price point. How bad is the black smear on it?
Yeah I jumped on it for $1299 when Amazon price matched Microcenter for literally 3 hours before selling out. They had used "like new" ones for under $1000 which is what I went with as a stop gap until next years stuff.

Black smear is not bad at all and kind of strange to me mainly because it measures higher than other VA monitors I've owned but looks much less severe. Overall motion clarity is superior to the PG32UQX though which to me was unusable especially in the sub 90FPS range which is inevitable with 4K gaming. I got to compare them pretty extensively and the biggest difference other than motion clarity is in color gamut, the PG32 has richer colors in HDR content. Actual contrast ratio is IMO a wash between them. PG32 has more than 2x the zone count per area but PG35 offsets it with higher native contrast so in most content they look similar.

For reference, the PG32 in motion with OD on normal looks like some where between off and normal on a PG35 (but closer to off). That was the biggest determining factor for me ditching it as 9 million FALD zones and 5000 nits peak brightness don't matter at all if you can't even see what you're looking at when panning the camera in game.

Mini-LED and the g-sync ultimate module and the peak brightness for HDR1400 cert are what make it super high end, but even without those it would still be high end-ish (so basically the PG32UQ) thanks to the pro/prosumer color space coverage and of course 4k + 144hz. Dell segments their Ultrasharps based on color space coverage.

I think color is much more important than motion clarity, but in any case the motion clarity on the PG32UQX is extremely good for the kind of panel it is. It's gotten to the point of splitting hairs.

Alright so I have an update on this monitor and a new conclusion:
It highly depends on the game/content being played. In BF 2042 it isn't at all noticeable or even annoying. But Sea of Thieves is just a horrendous experience and not recommended to play with, because it relies heavily on dark/dim/cloudy settings.

I think if I would have started with BF 2042, I wouldn't have noticed the issue nearly as much as maybe even wrote the one or other ugly comment to myself haha. It's a controversial monitor.
I have no problem admitting that I'm wrong, when I made a mistake. In this case it seems that we are all in the right.

not sure, but amazon is great with returns so you could order one and if it has problems you just return it...

Just FYI... this won't be the case a year from now. Amazon has slowly started restricting returns. Funny enough, stuff like cat food is now basically non-returnable EVEN IF IT ARRIVES DAMAGED or has some other defect.

I talked to ASUS any they told me that this monitor has blooming, which is due to the the way it works, and there isn't anything that can be done about it.
I think it may be you. I also have not come across one video where this mentioned content does not create blooming when Fald is on.

Maybe you can make a vid to prove it?

It's the best monitor I've ever used, the HDR is the best that money can buy (well next to the ProArt version), and bright city lights are my absolute favorite on it.

That does not really answer my question. But I guess that means no.

really without joke, like said from agentanon is the better you can buy with this price (im speaking from pa32ucx not uqx...but is the same miniled tech 1152zones, 2.5auoptronics panel 60hz vs 2.6 120+hz). better there are only 30k+ dollars dual cell professional. and maybe the only oled where there are pro/against is the 32ep950 4000$

Unless they come up with 42 inch Gsync Ultimate OLED with 1k peak brightness, improved color volume and less aggressive ABL, PG32UQX is the best HDR screen out there. Other benefits of PG32UQX easily negates the blooming disadvantage imo. OLED look better in edge cases, PG32UQX look better in most cases.
I think next step for Nvidia and Asus should be adding HDR calibration feature instead of gimmicks.
 
Awesome! Looking at the reviews, the last 3 which were posted after the new batch seem to have 5/5 stars, so I'm optimistic they might have fixed a few things.
I got one from the new batch. No dead pixels. It's good other than some issue with gray uniformity. There's a vertical swath around the middle of the panel where white is a bit darker than the surrounding area, and there are also one or two other vertical areas like that on the screen. This is not particularly bad - the uniformity is still pretty decent, but it could be better. I do notice the problem on occasion, but it doesn't disturb me much. I'm pretty happy with it overall.

My local MicroCenter sold out of these monitors instantly this week... :( I really want to get it from my MC though for the 2-year warranty I can buy with it. Plus as the fan on my PG27UQ is starting to go bad (under 2 years), I might be able to get my money back on this through MC which would help toward the purchase of a 2.9k monitor... lol. If all else fails, I guess I could replace the fan in this monitor on my own while I wait, but it would be nice to snag one of these new monitors.
 
Why the MC warranty when the product itself has a 3 year warranty. Most of these extended warranties begin after the original ends.

I know there are horror stories galore but I've had nothing but good experiences with Asus RMA.

Ease mostly and the fact MC will give me my money back (in a gift card of course) if they are unable to repair or replace to original quality.

Speaking of which, my MC now has this monitor in stock today!! But I am debating whether or not $3k+ (after tax) is really worth it over my PG27UQ... If I fix the silly fan in this thing, it would be damn near perfect still.

It's the best HDR monitor you can buy currently so depends how much value you put on that. It does have a lot of short comings and with the Neo G9 and PG35 available for roughly $1600 at most currently it's a terrible value buy at this point compared to alternatives. Sure that's a little apples to oranges but a true HDR monitor list is small.

CES is 4 weeks away which should have more mini led / fald options that will be shown hopefully for 22-23 release dates.

Personally I would wait at this point to see what CES has to show.

I know my monitor uses 8-Bit + FRC to "simulate" 10-Bit color to 98Hz, after that (120Hz or 144Hz), HDR is 8-Bit + Dithering. At 120Hz, I am still at 8-Bit, but using RGB444 and not 4:2:2.

Does the PG32UQX have TRUE 10-Bit HDR at 120Hz? Or does the bandwidth limitation still hold it to 8-Bit Dithering, but the panel itself is still 10-Bit and not 8-Bit + FRC?

TBH, I have tried 10-Bit (8-Bit + FRC) @ 98Hz vs 8-Bit + Dithering (panel only runs at RGB444 8-Bit) @120Hz in games, and for the life of me, I struggle very hard to even spot any differences when using HDR in games.

The PG32UQX is a true 10 bit panel at 144hz. No Chroma Subsampling required. Honestly, the colors on the PG32UQX are the best on any display I have ever seen.

Oh your right, I stand corrected. I double checked with TFT central. Here is the quote.

"It should be noted that unlike some other Native G-sync screens the 10-bit colour depth is available even at 4K 144Hz thanks to the inclusion of Display Stream Compression (DSC) on the DP 1.4 connection. DSC provides a visually lossless compression which means that unlike older 4K 144Hz models you don’t need to sacrifice colour depth or chroma levels to reach the maximum refresh rate. You need a compatible DSC graphics card though of course. The Asus reviewers guide confirms that the screen can do true 10-bit at 4K 120Hz thanks to DSC, but for the very top 4K 144Hz it has to switch to 8-bit+FRC due to DSC limitations apparently. Visually that should be pretty impossible to see but we mention it for completeness and for those particularly technical readers. The main take-home here is that you don’t need to drop to 8-bit colour depth which is great if your content or game is HDR and supports 10-bit. When i run 98Hz, I get 10-Bit from the OS (and games for HDR); even though my monitor is 8Bit + FRC, but at 120Hz, this will say 8-Bit Dithering for me. I'm trying to find out if this is a standard issue or if windows knows my monitor is RGB444 8-Bit at 120Hz and not RGB444 10-Bit (8Bit + FRC).

Actually, the PG32UQX will let you set it to 12-bit in the Nvidia control panel at 144Hz. Not saying it is true 12-bit or even 10-bit at 144Hz (as TFT central and others have reported, it's 8-bit+FRC above a certain refresh rate). But that's what is allowed.

This monitor is freaking amazing. I dont have any issues that i have seen in this thread. I cant see any dead pizels yet.

There is a very slight bloom on the cursor on black backgrounds but you have to be looking for it.
 
I can confirm that the PG32UQX will support 3840 x 2160 @ 144Hz with 12-bit color and HDR enabled. You need to have a 3000 series Nvidia card (has DP 1.4 ports) to support the DSC 1.2 compression. I have a 3080 (screenshot), 3080Ti, and 3090; these settings work on all three cards with no issues.
