This may have been obvious, but there has been speculation whether ES 6 would come at all to PlayStation and it's all confirmed now that it isn't. If it does come I suspect it would be at least a year or more after Xbox/PC launch for it to come to PlayStation... or never, but who knows... it for sure won't launch on PS5. I think Starfield is still a question mark in my mind as to whether that will get a PS release or not. I think that was far along in development possibly by the time of the Microsoft acquisition that it could be a cross-platform launch, but not certain.

Yeah, I was never expecting ES6 to come to Playstation after the Bethesda acquisition. You gotta believe if they're shelling out that much for a publisher, those titles will remain exclusive to their platform.

I can't even fault MS for this move either, one of the big reasons they lost the last gen was their lack of exclusives.

That's debatable. There was an enormous backlash over their DRM policies and the requirement of the Kinect. I truly wonder how they would have done had Xbox One just launched at $399 like PS4 with no Kinect and no fucked-up DRM.

Also Xbox 360 was ahead of PS3 for most of it's life on the market, so we shall see how this generation goes. I think lots of people will get an Xbox to play ES 6 and possibly Starfield and whatever comes after if everything stays exclusive from here on out.

True, their DRM and Kinect requirements hampered them out the gate. Spencer was able to steer the console admirably after he took over (lowered pricing, removed kinect, etc). But, I think, their lack of exclusives is what prevented them from getting closer to that PS4 userbase. I feel it was their GamePass service that really kept them afloat - that service remains a killer deal.

As for the X360 and PS3 battle, in that case, I think it was PS3's exclusives that really allowed Sony to battle back against the early successes of the X360. Most of the killer Sony titles came in near the mid to end of it's console life.

100% agree. There are some incredible games in development for Xbox currently and some incredible studios under the Microsoft umbrella. I think the future is looking really bright for Microsoft, but I am not going to lie... I haven't played a Xbox game or PC game since I got my PS5 at the end of September. FF 7: Remake Intergrade, Demon's Souls, Returnal... just fucking amazing exclusives. Also I find myself buying games I would normally buy on PC or Xbox for PS5 just for the DualSense features... RE: Village, Far Cry 6... those would usually be PC games for me but the controller just adds that extra amount of immersion to a game.

That being said I found this on Reddit that shows current Microsoft game studios and in-development exclusive games... it's quite impressive...

This isn't even news. I am pretty sure various people from Microsoft have said this at least 4 times since they acquired Zenimax. I guess Sony fans could just never accept it.

Pretty much expected, if that's indeed what Spencer meant (he doesn't say it outright, but it's strongly implied). The question is whether or not it'll move the needle. Elder Scrolls 6 will likely be a classic western RPG — it'll fare well in North America and possibly Europe, but it's not going to have people ditching PlayStations en masse (especially not in Japan). Sony has an advantage with multiple studios that routinely produce huge hits, like Naughty Dog and Insomniac. Bethesda is just one... and Mojang largely revolves around endless updates to one game.

With that said, Microsoft has come a long way from the nadir of the Xbox One era, when it was peddling utterly mediocre exclusives and wondering why Sony was kicking its ass. "Hey, we've got ReCore! And Crackdown 3! Wait, why are you selling your Xbox?"

I'm fine with this. Looking forward to a new Elders Scroll game.

PS players don't care about "Bethesda" own made games. All are trash and only survived because of the huge amount of mods! Or re-released 50 times a.k.a Skyrim. Heard Starfield and ES6 are both built on the shitty creation engine! Polished turd on release guaranteed! PS5 + PC is best combo. Avowed and Stalker 2 is the only games I'm interested in from that line up and will be playing them on PC.

Please don't presume to speak for me, a PlayStation player.

Bethesda has some good games, and that includes titles published under studios like id. I'd like to see Bethesda release at least some of those titles on PlayStation; I just won't be horribly upset if it doesn't.

Haha funny joke.

10 years from launch there will be 8086 different versions of TES:VI for everything from PS5 to Game Boy Color

Right, I always consider these things timed exclusives - as soon as the portable hardware is capable, it will get ported.

PlayStation will probably also get a port,

I have an X1X but 99% of their games I will be picking up on PC for higher fidelity, UW, etc.

PS5 will still be for majority of Console only games. Not sure how much this will move the needle, some for sure, but not enough to impact the PS5 popularity and wide sales lead.

I may move away from PC to PS5 too. I don't find building PCs fun anymore with having to hunt for almost every single component, and all of the pricing issues on things. It was much more enjoyable when you could put everything you needed into carts from a store, or two, and have it all show up together.

I'm just glad it's coming to PC. I'd be even happier if it came out via GamePass, which is a definite possibility since it's a Bethesda title. With them (supposedly) no longer requiring titles to be UWP, mods should even work fine.

100% it will be a day one Game Pass game. Every Microsoft studio game will be Day 1 game pass releases... Doom, Wolfenstein, Elder Scrolls, Fallout, Starfield... Game Pass is amazing.

Not going to lie that i've been thinking of selling my 2080ti Ultra and get like a G off it while the market is still like this. I simple don't game on PC since getting a PS5. I've also made a lot of great new friends on PlayStation that I didn't have on PC... it's definitely more social. The only thing I would miss PC gaming for is KB+M for faster shooters like Doom and COD. Doom Eternal was utterly unplayable to me on console.

Some games work better than others on console. Destiny 2 I find great precisely because it's less twitchy. That and, in multiplayer, people are generally on the same playing field.

On top of your reasons for preferring to game on the PS5, I have a simple one: it's more social within my own house. My wife can curl up next to me and watch me game (thankfully, she enjoys it), and I can at least be present if she's doing something else while I game. With a PC I'd have to retreat to the office and isolate myself, and that's not what I want to do when my wife is available.

This shouldn't surprise anyone since Microsoft bought ZeniMax Media. You think Microsoft was buying them just to own another company? They know damn well that the only reason anyone buys a console is exclusives. How many good exclusives Sony has vs Microsoft? What does Microsoft have? Halo, which hasn't been good for a long time now. Ori and the Blind Forest and Cuphead? Forza series? These are nothing compared to God of War, Last of Us series, Spiderman, Ratchet and Clank, Uncharted Series, Ghost of Tsushima, and Bloodborne. That isn't even close to an entire list of games that isn't available on PC or Xbox. So it makes sense that Microsoft would buy a company and make their games exclusive to Xbox/PC. I don't agree with this as exclusives are anti-consumer but this is how the console market do.

Destiny 2 a first person shooter works better on console? How's that aim bot working?

It's a good thing you guys come to a PC tech forum so we can teach you things you didn't know. Did you know you can hook up your PC to your TV using HDMI? Also, that PS5 or Xbox gamepad will also plug and play on your PC as well, including bluetooth.

Same here!!! My wife actually likes to watch me play especially with other people. Her favorite is watching me play Warzone. I remember when I was playing Doom Eternal on PC she would comment I am never in the living room or using the TV out there despite us having a nice setup out there, and just like you I found that PC gaming is more isolating. I have seen Linus game on PC in the living room using a KB+M when testing certain TVs, and he used some sort of platform he puts on his lap but I just am not sure how stable that would be when moving the mouse around a lot and stuff.

I know you're being sarcastic but that's not the problem. There are just certain games that work better on PC... namely EVERY FPS, however KB+M is the preferred method of input and gaming with a KB+M in my lap is not ideal to me I imagine b/c of the positioning of where the KB+M would be on my laptop in a living room setup. I've never tried it, but the point stands. Also I can't imagine putting my large PC tower in the living room. I could try fitting it all into a smaller case but I don't see the point. Functionally I do other things than game on a PC so hooking it up in the living room when doing work or anything other than gaming doesn't make sense.

I said D2 is more feasible on a console than other shooters, not that it's best controlled on one.

Also... you see, those of us who otherwise have lives beyond our computers have better things to do than put a PC in our living room simply to play some more games. And if I have a PS5, I'm sure not going to multiply my hassles by trying to use the controller with my computer, or to juggle a keyboard and mouse on my lap (yes, I know living room keyboard/mouse combos exist... it's still awkward). Cuddling with my wife will always beat slightly better control in an FPS.

The difference of playing a first person shooter on PC vs console on a gamepad isn't different. The only difference is that you know gamepads are inferior when you could be using a mouse+keyboard, where consoles don't give you that choice.

You're posting on a PC hardware tech forum that's hasn't had a news webpage in years and you're telling me that you have a life beyond computers? You are self aware aren't you?

Being excited about an upcoming game from Bethesda is a quaint notion, like something from 10 years ago. At best they get good some 3 years after release when the community of modders has fixed them.

Yes, I am, because I generally don't use my computer in the evenings. I post during work breaks or shortly after work.

It's not really that hard to understand. My relationship with my wife is more important than how well the latest shooter plays on my TV. I not only don't need the hassles (or expense) of setting up and using a living room PC, a console is probably better-suited to those times when my wife wants to share the experience with me. And, for that matter, those times when I only have a short opportunity to play.

That will happen as soon as Sony starts releasing Series X|S and Switch versions of their exclusives.

So why are you posting on a mostly PC tech forum? To remind us how you couldn't be bothered to do most things? Do you build a PC or buy one? Do you install Windows or get BestBuy to do it for you? If you have a PC then hooking it up to the TV to do the same thing as a console should be trivial.

Also want to point out that Sony is bringing their games to PC and so is Microsoft, but not to each others consoles. The writing is on the wall ladies and gentlemen. Unless you plan to put an Xbox and Playstation console in your living room a single PC will do the job and a thousand times more.

It's possible to have more than one interest and use case.

Because I'm a tech enthusiast, and many of the threads and subsections here aren't PC-only. Hate to break it to you, but you don't get to decide who participates in this forum or the topics they discuss.

Hooking up a PC to use for living room gaming is not trivial. Unless you have the money to splurge, it means having to either compromise on a computer in your office (since you're presumably not going to do all your computing on your TV) or hauling a machine around the home. If you want an elegant setup, you have to think about the case size, noise and input issues like a lap-friendly keyboard/mouse combo. A modern PC isn't a pain to start up and use... but it's still more of a hassle than a console, especially since many PC games aren't meant for living room play.

And no, the writing is not on the wall. Not even close. Sony is giving you leftovers; Microsoft is trying to pump up Windows sales. A single PC will still leave you without many games (or waiting longer for them), and it certainly won't deliver "a thousand times more." PC gaming is dandy, and if you enjoy it in the living room, more power to you... but it's not going to make people toss out their consoles any time soon.

As far as gaming, the newest consoles do almost all that a PC does at a mere fraction of the cost. For most people, a console is a much better use of money. Not to mention that console gamers get much better displays, as living room TVs have far superior picture quality compared to gaming monitors.

Eye watering levels of saturation and blinding brightness doesn't automatically mean better. Not to mention input lag.

All of that is also possible on improperly setup computer monitors just like an improperly setup TV.

Consoles are still about the simplicity. Sure they are much more PC-like than ever, but still maintain a lot of the turn it on and it works. If there’s a system update it’s normally just 1 download then go about the rest of it. On Windows, I just downloaded one the other day. After rebooting had 4 more to download. Then if there’s any other software needing an update well that’s all separate. Drivers as well since Windows doesn’t always have them available. Then if I want games to automatically update, that’s 4+ store-fronts I need to keep running in the background. And that doesn’t include a couple games that I have installed that don’t run through a store-front.

Sure maybe down the line we will see a lot less of an emphasis on consoles. But that would likely be more as a shift toward Games as a Service with Xbox Game Pass and PlayStation Now from Microsoft and Sony. Why bother with designing and selling hardware at a loss or break even when you can have monthly subscriptions and stream the games. Those don’t even need a PC connected to a TV as just about any modern streaming device could support them.

I never played and am not interested in Ender Scrolls games, but that does suck. It is one thing for new games, but to have games with massive followings be locked out of platforms is disappointing.

Most TVs are set up like that by factory, so much for being easy to use, and on some you can't even reduce brightness enough without sacrificing contrast. Also TVs tend to fake contrast ratio by turning off or down the backlight during darker scenes, which is awful, IDK who came up with that idea, because it is terrible even when watching TV.
