I have an Asus ROG Maximus Z690 Hero that is shipping Nov 4. I did not score a pre-order for the CPU.

What's the best way to increse my chances of getting one within a normal price range?

What would you do?

Camp out at microcenter. They are the only place i know of that will 100% have stock in store. I heard pre orders started yesterday but ive no idea what that entailed.
I hadn't planned on buying one so my info may not be the most accurate.
GL!

That's a good one of course. But the closest one is like 650 miles.

Got a plan B?

You talking in store? Never thought of that. I haven't bought a computer part in store in like forever. Mainly talkin' online.
Ill be damned! They actually have them listed! I have no idea what kind of situation you'll have to deal with in regards to getting one in your cart and buying one but now you know at least.

Edit- No, im pretty sure these are online only. Then again, i could be completely wrong.

It would suck to have a $600 motherboard laying around with no chip for it.

What time do you guys think they'll actually launch on the 4th? I've never had to do this before! I'm on a 4790K

Its usually at the break of day like 6-9am but i haven't seen anything official yet.

$600 for the hero? Yikes Asus is gouging it up this gen.

Good news -- I got the Noctua cooler for it this morning. So I got that going for me!

I messaged EK today, to see if they will have a bracket for their AIO's. I also have a BeQuiet Shadow Rock TF2 and BeQuiet announced that brackets will be available to request or buy, on launch day. So....if EK lags in releasing brackets, I will at least have something ok to put on a 12700K.

Check Newegg around 10-11am central time if you want to try and pre-order there. I got a 12900K pre-order in yesterday for one at 10:45am and a friend of mine got his today around 11:15am for a 12900KF.

Good Luck!

Post back what they say. I'm interested in getting the brackets (probably not for this release, but the LGA1700 style mounting will probably be with us for a while).

I bet Best Buy will go online only, like they eventually did for the RTX 3xxx cards. I'm sure they don't want to deal with the lines of people camping outside their store.

thank you for contacting us.
The LGA 1700 mounting kit for AIO is in the works and should be available soon. Please stay tuned for more information on our website or social media.

I find it interesting people think there will be lines of people camping for this CPU at Best Buy. Personally I don't think it will be that way. GPU's make sense. This gen of Intel likely isnt going to be any more popular than the instantly forgotten vapor launch of the 11th gen, that was HYPEDDDDDDDDD until review embargos dropped. The demand was not there. Intel fans, you will likely be safe this round.

Tell that to the all of the people looking for ddr5 right now 😆

Was the hype nearly has close to this:

This could be vastly manipulated marketing material (and/or irrealistic boost for most case), but I do not remember that type of hyped performance boost from the previous generation in a good while, with doubling cinemascore type of jump.

Wash rinse repeat. I’ll gladly re evaluate when actual credible independent reviews come out. I’m all about competition. But I also very much remember the recent 11th gen joke.

Best Buy still had 12900K's in stock about a hour before this post. 12700k's are still in stock as of this post and can either be ordered shipped to your house or to your local Best Buy. I think some of the ones a bit further away from might have them in stock in store.

DDR5 RAM, however, is definitely sold out with Best Buy and even if it wasn't is seriously overpriced Corsair stuff.

Here’s to hoping it’s competitive and puts pressure on AMD!

OP - they were available most of today.

Stock seems pretty good for 12xxx cpus. MC still hasn't sold out all any of the the new CPUs. People don't need to be worried about scalping.

I got the 12900k but after seeing the RAM situation and the DDR4 mobo options, I am going to either sell it or store it until the RAM I want is available. lame lol

was anyone able to get a Z690 motherboard? I'm waiting for the Asus Z690 RoG Maximus Extreme. Also, I was on Best Buy's website yesterday and never saw it in stock. WTF?!

I've got an GIGABYTE Z690I AORUS ULTRA DDR4 ITX motherboard on the way, from Newegg. Should be able to pickup the12700k I bought from Best Buy, today or tomorrow.

I ordered the same board from Newegg too. I just got a shipping notice for it today. So keeping my fingers crossed I can get all the parts in a decent amount of time.

I walked into Microcenter on launch day about 12:30pm. They looked to have at least 10-15 on the shelf of the 12900k. Bought one and an aorus z690i ddr4. I was tempted to get an RTX 3000 series but passed. They had the 3060/3070/3080ti $650/1000/1700 They had NO DDR5 available. I have the noctua nh-d15 chromax with the adapter that I received the same day from Amazon.
