Pixel 6 / Pixel 6 Pro / Pixel 6a

I didn't get any sort of notice, but my case went from an estimated delivery of Nov. 2 to Nov. 22-30. If it stays like that, I'll cancel my order and hit up Best Buy instead. I'm not rolling without a case for a month. I tried that back in the iPhone 4 days and I must've dropped that damned phone a half dozen times in only a few weeks.

Great to hear, thanks. I was really worried going 6 Pro because I'm not a fan of curved edge screens. But, I really want 120hz LPTO display, and also a high quality bright and colorful screen too, on par or better than my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I am currently using my Pixel 4 XL and this screen is mediocre, just dim, and washed out compared to my 12 PM. So hopefully the Pixel 6 Pro is the upgraded display tech I've always wanted in a Pixel.

I was all set on the regular flat Pixel 6, but then worried the screen was just ok, not 120hz, not bright, not high quality, so I said screw it, just get the 6 Pro and get the full on new technology.
Yeah I'm coming from a Pixel 4 XL as well. I held them side by side and it's a massive upgrade in screen quality.

I'm hoping the build quality is also a lot better. I didn't have much luck with my pixel 4 XL as the battery kept going bad. I had it replaced 3 times. Fortunately Google fixed it each time for free (at uBreakiFix) otherwise I might have looked at a different manufacturer.

My wife has a pixel 5 and she likes it but doesn't love it. She was thinking of going to the Apple side. I told her to give this 6 a try as I have high hopes for it. She eventually agreed. So well see.

I think that as long as the screen quality of the regular is up to Galaxy S10 standards (which really isn't a high expectation considering that's from 2019) I'll be satisfied. I think I really need to find the Pro in a store so I can handle it though.

I was indecisive on what case I wanted so I might have gone slightly overboard with pre-ordering cases. Lol.

Doesn't look like you have the kwmobile one that I'm considering so I could get your review on it before ordering!

I had the case in the middle of the bottom row of Johnny78's pic, but returned it when I figured I wouldn't buy the 6 Pro. Now that I've got one ordered I need a case that'll work until the 6 Pro's Speck Presidio is released. Got this one today...

Dang man LOL :) Which is thinnest of those?
Thinnest? Umm they're all actually pretty thin. One thing I would advise and this is just my opinion of course, but I noticed that some of the cases leave the side edges more exposed than others. Like they curve inwards slightly? For such a big phone with curved edges I would be worried that if you drop it, the screen might break more easily with a case with more exposed edges. Anyway just my two cents.

The spigen tough armor seems to strike a nice balance between offering actual drop protection while not being bulky.

I tried to capture a picture of what I mean... Curve in side versus straight side.

My free Pixel Buds shipped last night and my case's delivery date went back to 11/2 (after jumping to 11/22-11/30).
The only weird thing is that Google put several authorization holds on my credit card. I have 4 in total, although one of those was for the order I canceled. Nothing has actually been charged yet. I figured they'd charge me for the order that shipped and everything else would disappear. Might also be an AMEX thing, too. It's sometimes wonky vs. other cards.

SuperSaf pics;

Looks fine. Not mind-blowing but it seems better than previous Pixels.

With this, the Pixel is finally in the "acceptable" tier of video capture unless there's an HDR10 recording mode that no one has mentioned yet.

Looks like it doesn't offer much protection. You're not concerned your beautiful, expensive, new P6 Pro might not survive a drop or two?

I’ll just use that case at home being careful.

Which cases do you recommend?

I always recommend the Speck Presidio, but Speck always is late releasing their Pixel cases. I became a true believer in the Presidio when I dropped my 2XL from a 2nd story window of my house while installing some new glass. The case took a beating and the screen shield shattered, but the phone itself was undamaged. (y)

I think that shattering is actually less of a concern with the new Victus glass but scratch protection is more important as a tradeoff.

I've been reading so much about the Pro and really getting tempted for it. That Pro looks really nice though. I guess I have 30 days to exchange after my regular arrives.
Spent some time last night checking out the Pixel 6 vs the Pro at Best Buy.

Pro is not physically that much bigger in hand as is it has smaller bezels.

I don’t care for the curved screen but it does look better than the 6 screen when side by side. The 6 screen is nice and flat and I doubt you would have issues except when using it next to the Pro.

Things like opening the camera, switching between apps, etc. are all quicker on the Pro. 4x toggle for optical zoom on the Pro is a nice option. I would rather have the extra zoom vs the extra wide.

Both nice phones but the Pro feels and looks like the premium version from the front at least due to the curved screen, smaller bezels and just overall images on the screen look nicer.

The bezels on the 6 are quite noticeable if you are not using dark mode and when going back and forth between the two they do stand out.

Whether the Pro is worth a $300 premium, I don’t know and depends on what you value.

For me, if I were pre-ordering, it would be the Pro version. Don’t care for the curved edges but the most important part of the phone to me is the screen as that is what you look at every time you use the phone and the Pro screen just seems that much better when side-by-side with he 6. The bigger battery and camera options are just icing on the cake.

I’m waiting to see what BF brings.

Everything I read of people seeing both the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro, is that the 6 Pro is just an overall better display, besides the obvious 120hz refresh rate, but the colors and inky OLED blacks everyone says the 6 Pro just has a higher quality screen. Gets brighter and more vivid colors and just nicer than the 6 screen.

I hate curved edge screens myself but for me, I really want the best display I can get on a Pixel,I don't want a mediocre 90hz display that the Pixel 4 and 5 have, I want the best tech a Pixel has; 120hz, deep blacks, high brightness, etc...

I still have my iPhone 12 Pro Max, and I am not a fan of iOS, but the screen and high quality display on the 12 PM is great, I want something like that on my new Pixel. So I ordered the 6 Pro.

I also have the 12 Pro Max and the 6 Pro is comparable in color and quality. 6 Pro obviously has the higher refresh rate but static images, YouTube videos all are comparable between the two. Regular Pixel 6 not so much.

I checked my order status and it read CANCELED. WTF??? :rage:

Got on the chat line with a rep who assured me my order still was active. In fact, it'll ship on Monday.

Heart attack averted! :D

I've always used the Spigen Tough Armor since OG Pixel 1 and Pixel 3 and it has never failed me. Can't go wrong with the tough armor, especially with that little kick stand.

Went by the local Best Buy today to check these out. Not seeing any huge difference in display quality between the two. The Pro did have slightly better blacks and colors, but you'd only notice with the two right next to each other. Certainly not enough to justify +$300 if you weren't already in for the Pro's other features. Curved displays are an abomination anyways.

The camera bulge is relatively substantial, but I think images of the phones make it look larger than it really is.

Now to decide whether to pre-order now and get the free buds, or wait for possible Black Friday deals...

I think the base 6 is the sweet spot. It will offer the best bang for your buck of any phone out there. I am really curious bout battery life. 5a 5g and 6 have the same size but the display will need more power and the chipset but who knows. Not mention free pixel buds..

Sharing this article about 5g which has not been discussed much. Find it interesting

Further more this worries me

Google said on Thursday that unlocked Pixels will be able to get a software update to enable support for C-band, but that it will be up to the carriers to certify the unlocked phones to allow the devices to work on their respective networks.
