I am using att fiber with near 1 gig at the router. It’s in a small apartment and I’m considering adding a newer WiFi card to the computer hoping for improved speeds (300 currently). Is that likely and if so what card to use. Currently using on board WiFi.

If you're in an apartment complex, wifi is definitely NOT the way to go because as your neighbors also get on wifi (if they haven't already), the air will be so filled with noise that it will be hard to even get 300Mbs.

My recommendation will be looking into some sort of wired connection, and moca and powerline if you can't just run a cable to where you need it.

Thx I’ll probably try powerline

I don’t need all 1 gig but was hoping to get 600-800

Even the best powerlines will be lucky to hit 300Mbs, so that won't help you. Moca or ethernet is the only way you're going to hit those speeds unless you want to get spendy on your wifi stuff and look into enterprise access points (Ruckus, et al).

Echo everyone else. Run a direct line. They make very flat cables in all kinds of colors.

Except those flat cables aren't truly to the ethernet spec although they typically work. I think over the long term they fail though as that's what I see a lot on another forum I'm on.
