GIGABYTE AORUS FV43U 43 inch 4k 144 HDR1000 QLED monitor

For the Canadians - newegg.ca currently has it for $100 off and $9.99 shipping. Still not as cheap as Memory Express, but there's at least stock at newegg.

Perhaps the active local dimming or another setting is causing the uneven lighting a. vignette?

(amazon is really slow, ordered on saturday and still not shipped the aourus ... 🙄)
Nah its is just the uniformity of the screen, all of them will have it up to a degree hence why I didnt bother exchanging it for another, even a few of the reviewers had it on their sample, again it very much depends on what you are consuming. For gaming you wont even notice it.

I would check with Amazon.de, I initially ordered from it for delivery to Ireland and it went through. However after a week the status didnt change. I contacted them and they said they were looking for the nearest warehouse to me for shipping. Then 2 days after that got an email that they couldnt find one and cancelled my order :(

Caseking.de has better pricing btw and their warranty and return policy is just as good.

So why should I go for this instead of waiting for the next CX? Or just go for the CX?
Again it depends, I had this and loved it but there were a few things that were bugging me so I returned it and got the C1 which I am loving now, again it is not perfect but better fits my area and usecase.
If you are dimly lit room (now here I mean there is no light in front of your screen or a window next to it which shining sun directly on it, then OLED is the way to go hands down! I have a second monitor set next to it a DELL ultrasharp IPS and its night and day, cant see me going back to LCDs again.

Now if you are in a bright room and all you do is gaming then this will suite much better, it gets incredibly bright so direct sunlight shouldnt be an issue and it does have a slight matted coating on it.

I do work in a lit room and this would be mostly desktop/productivity with occasional gaming. I'm still on a JU6500 from 2015, which I believe is a VA television. I don't really notice the VA angles that badly, and I'm using it as a monitor about 2-3ft away. So maybe this will be nice. Priced great, too...

IPS sounds nice in theory but it is bright and i'd be worried about contrast.
OLED sounds nice, but I guess I'd have to do more burn-in mitigation.

Would be nice to have a monitor I don't have to turn on with a remote control, though...

Love the remote as my monitor sits about 30" into the the desk with me another 6-10" from the desk and I would hate to have to reach that far to turn it on. Also. Do your research OLED is not all it cracks up to be. Even if i manage to rearrange my desk to fit a larger monitor, I would still take a 50" Samsung QN90A over a CX/C1 any day.

Well guys I'm sad to say I returned the FV43U. After a bunch of testing I came to the conclusion that I would rather spend the money on a video card upgrade instead. As much as I loved the FV43U It is pretty hard to run 4K with very high settings. I am the type of gamer that doesn't like to run on medium or lower settings so running at 4K right now Isn't ideal for me on my GPU even though it is the Seahawk 2080Ti EK-X which is one of the best 2080Ti editions. I am currently in the market for a EVGA 3080Ti FTW3 Ultra Hydrocopper which retails for over $1500 so the gorgeous 4K monitor had to take a backseat for now. Was fun while it lasted & is one hell of a monitor, I'm gonna miss it as I can't afford to keep it & upgrade my graphics card at the same time so it is one or the other right now & I decided to beef up my system & revisit upgrading my display in the future because I still do adore my 32" 165hz Predator Z1 curved G-sync monitor. Still happy either way so all good =D

In support they say: the delivery of your order will unfortunately be delayed. We will send you a confirmation as soon as the order is dispatched and inform you of the estimated delivery date. We apologize for the inconvenience.
and if you want to cancel 🤔
We were unable to cancel the following item (s) in your order: Gigabyte Aorus FV43U 109cm (43 ") 4K gaming monitor HDMI 2.1 / DP / USB-C 144Hz 1ms

Well, I'll have to wait.
Hope that HDR Movies and HDR games look better than on my low-contrast ISP :)

then the Radeon RX 6900 XT is it not better and with more RAM? ok raytracing only has RTX ...

I think the worst thing about VA is ghosting and the tinting, coming from and IPS Screen, it was quite obvious and took me sometime to adjust. Not so noticeable was black crush which I only noticed playing some dark games that look much much better on VA.

IPS Glow was something I didnt miss coming to VA :D, I was lucky mine wasnt bad but I have seen really bad ones and can be distracting in dark games like Frostpunk.

ABL, Peak Brightness and Burn in are the only downsides with OLED. However the first two I never noticed, I am in a reasonably lit room and I have a desk lamp that I use at night and a 21" IPS screen for my stats :), but it is bright enough for me and gets absurdly bright in HDR I had to lower it. As for burn in time will tell but there is a lot of misconception about it, best to just get all the facts from a lot of people and make own decision on that one. If you search LG OLED Burn in, there are only a handful users complaining and we have had people using them as monitors since the C9 was released a few years ago, and the current C1 is the latest tech. You will not get a better PQ then on an OLED hands down, dont let anyone else tell you otherwise. However all that being said, unless you have them side by side, you should be happy with what you got as screens these days are better than any released a few years ago.

You should be happy with it. I came from a 40" JU7500 then a CG437K then the FV. This was my office environment where I had the FV until I took it home last week.

Well that's a plot twist after the glowing reviews full of superlatives. I'm doing things the other way round - I'd rather keep hold of the screen for the usefulness it gives me in work than overpay for an Ampere GPU in the current climate. Roll on next gen, I can wait.

i also prefer to keep the monitor and my rtx2080 until there are better ones at normal prices. :)

I mainly use my big screen for work as well, 75% of the time, connected to my shitty office laptop.

That said I do have a 6900XT which is got for close to MSRP after letting go of my RTX 2080 Super at the same price I bought it a year ago :D

I have tried 3 large screens now including a TV, and I have an LG OLED for comparison. They all have their compromises and issues if you check their respective threads or reddit discussions. I am still using the FV on my PC for a mix of work from home plus gaming.

People seem to be shocked when endemic issues with LCD, panel types, physical size and typical monitor limitations are not simultaneously overcome by one miraculous product that they purchased with no investigation and high hopes. This is a pretty good monitor for my use case and I’m happy so far despite some limitations. I highly encourage others to read and search threads like this before purchasing and spend less time criticizing others preferences and use cases. Some people will prefer a LG C1. Some will prefer the ASUS mini led or the Samsung G9 - to each their own.

I wonder if we get a firmware update soon. The FO48U just got its F05 Beta, although the update description says "Optimize the brightness performance in HDR mode."

Obviously a completely different process for OLED so... shrug.

Agreed, its always a personal preference as to what you can live with. Imperfections, limitations etc..

I had a FV and it was superb for gaming for me, but not so great for text, work and general web browsing, whereas C1 is good at all those but since OLED, it has its own weaknesses as many mentioned before, burn in, brightness etc.. it comes down to what can be acceptable to you, no right or wrong as both are really good.

Though gigabyte has pissed me off a little bit recently as the Aorus x570 master just kaput and now giving me a hard time for RMA :D not to mention their exploding PSUs!

My previous mobo, Gigabyte X470 Ultra Gaming had problem with main bios and RMA was fast and without further problems but i've send it through shop that sold me this motherboard :)

About FV43U i agree that it's a compromise and depending on use case it can be better or worse for some ppl. Personally i'm still waiting for LG 42" OLED - monitors based on this panel should be superb :) (OLED + right size)

Ps. I can now confirm that USB-C DisplayPort on FV43U is working. As i though it was my poor USB-C cable. You need 10 gbps cable and then it's flawless :)

but he gets by usb-c 4k, 144Hz with 10 bit?
I don't think so but also i don't know for sure. My laptop Intel UHD 620 doesn't allow more than 4K60.
As fas as i read everywhere it's capped at 4K60 anyway over USB-C (probably 8 bit)

Well you can kiss the 42" OLED goodbye. You can take it for the grain of salt it's worth since you don't know me personally. I've been in the high tech industries for over 40 years and I do consult for one of the major PC manufacturer which also have their own monitor line from time to time. I was talking to their monitor product manager for the US and I kinda ask him if they're planning on introducing any OLED models in their lineup. Naturally the long rumored 42" came up and I found out why the 42" have been delayed for so long. Basically, the current 48" OLED pixel is too big to fit into a 42", if they go with a smaller pixel size. they cannot get the same brightness level of the current 48". We're talking about ~20% reduction in brightness. The only way around it is running the pixel at a higher than current voltage but that would increase the chance of burn-ins and will affect the pixel life cycle length, They're trying to increase the density of the pixel without increasing the thickness but don't know if it will work. Basically, if they produce a 42" OLED panel with the current technology. It will basically be a HDR 600 panel but with the traditional sharp drop in brightness of an OLED. which means it'll drop below 300cd/m2 by the time you go past a 25% bright screen.

Salt applied but it'll be both interesting and disappointing if it turns out like this. I'm not interested in OLED for desktop but I know many are and were holding out for the 43" option.

Roll on that mLED pipe dream eh...

mLED have the same problem. Even with the current grain of sand size they are using, they can't fit it into anything under 65" (even 65" is a push that's why it won't come till later). We might need to wait of Pico size but they'll face the same problem of getting enough brightness out of a Pico size LED. Near term, the best we can hope for is a non-one to one mLED in smaller size. If they can work out how to fit 1.8 mil mLED onto a 65" panel. they can probably produce a smaller panel with 10 of thousands mLED zones. Just imagine that if they can work it out and do we really need 1.8M zones on something in the 40"-50" range?

The existence of 8k OLED at 77" implies that a 4k OLED at 38.5" is possible, since the pixel density would be the same. But perhaps brightness and/or heat dissipation doesn't scale down linearly with size.

If you look at the product page. Did you see one mention of HDR performance? Even the spec page have no info except it supports HDR. We all know that you can make a small 4K OLED panel. I have one in my last Gigabyte Laptop but you can't use it outdoor even in the shade so I went with a normal LCD on my current one. As I said, they can produce one today that will probably hit about 600cd/m2 but that's like 25% less than a CX/C1 at peak.

With how hell bent against OLEDs he is, I wouldn't take any of his statements seriously.

Well... yes? Because if it wasn't for burn-in I'd be on OLED already. I'd love to have pixel-level emission rather than rely on any form of backlight, no matter the LED count. But if it can get close to OLED quality without the compromise then I'm all for it.

All up to you. I don't hate the tech, the tech is intriguing. That's why I bought a 77" CX . I did end up selling it at a lost after a couple months because I'm not willing to live with the limitation as it currently stand. But I know a lot of ppl are interested, that's why it came up during our conversation. But did you notice that I also said that smaller size mLED QLED panel are impossible for the same reason and we should not expect them any time soon. I'm in manufacturing so the process always interest me no matter the end product.

I did look, and LG doesn't seem to publish brightness specs. I also looked for reviews on the 77" model, and while the few I could find didn't take any measurements, the only comments on HDR performance were complimentary. I'd think if it was subpar it would be noted, especially on a $20k TV.

I actually agree with Wiz & stand in a similar position with him. We both had LG OLEDs. He had the CX & I had the C1. We both got rid of them in search of something more versatile. I can appreciate the pros, but didn't wanna settle for the cons. Want something that's a good compromise of all like the best all arounder. If OLED didn't have the risk of burn in & was substantially brighter like QN90A bright I would have kept the C1. It excels in areas and falls short in others.

my FV43U arrived yesterday 🥳
The colors are very good.
The further away you are from the monitor, the better the picture will be ^^
Otherwise the black will become the edge, gray.
If you have the black stabilizer on 0 and the contrast on 60, black is even better :)
does anyone know what senseye demo is?

I assume you mean the Black Equalizer option? I just set it to 0 with contrast at 60 and the black crush is unbearable. What are you using/playing that actually makes this setting look good? It's completely useless for desktop.

Note that for Black Equalizer, Contrast and Sharpness the half-way point is neutrality and generally the best for displaying all colours in the input signal with no sharpening or softening.

y. the Black Equalizer.
for videos, sims4, skyrim, dmc, cyberpunk and others RPG think it's better that way in dark scenes.
otherwise black is dark gray. (in the dark room)
in senseye demo there is only a red line in the middle 🙄

Each to their own but you're simply losing shadow detail. You're crushing most darker shades into complete black and it's not a fair representation of what is coming out of your GPU.

For me, with neutral settings and in a dark environment, black is as black as a VA monitor can do. If you can't see all of these shades with your settings, you're crushing blacks.

Well, If they don't even have HDR listed anymore on the product page. I'll tell you that it won't rate above 600 cd/m2 which is inline with what I was told about if they build a 42" panel with the current tech.

That's what i did also but later i realized that contast on 60 is producing some artifacts like over sharpness - 50 is the best for picture quality, check it out on desktop or fonts in games ;)
Also the black stabilizer at 0 is great for blacks but in practice in games it makes them really dark and hard to see anything in dark scenes. I can later show you examples.
I ended up using black stabilizer between 5-10 (depends on use case: desktop, game etc.) and contrast 50 ;)

thank you senn for the test link.
Yes 1 to 4 everything was black 😮
I also have contrast to 50, Black equalizer to 8 and brightness to 15.
It's better now.

I tried this and 1 to 6 aren't visible, even at brightness 100.

Black Equalizer is not a feature I'm a fan of. It does nothing but move your window of visibility up or down the luminance scale. Anything other than 10 (essentially off) is crushing either lights or darks. I'm content to never use it.

So 10 is neutral? (essentially off)
If so it now has more sense to me :)
I thought that 0 is off and it was soo dark, now i understand why :)

Yeah it seems misleading at first but it's intentional, as below 10 darkens things and above 10 lightens them. But rather than smart tone mapping and maintaining shadow/highlight detail, anything other than 10 just crushes.

I assume the point is to "enhance games" but anything that crushes detail out is off the useful list in my book. ;)

F04 Beta has become F04.

https://www.gigabyte.com/Monitor/AORUS-FV43U/support#support-dl-firmware

As ever, no detail on changes.

Edit: Installed and had a quick play around for a few minutes.

The only immediate change I can find is System -> OSD Settings -> OSD Size -> 1x/2x. This was previously just Size -> On/Off which didn't give a good idea about what it did.

Insane colour errors when attempting to use local dimming on custom settings are still there for me though I wasn't expecting any change there. I never reported the issue because Gigabyte's support just plain sucks.
