Hello I was wondering what everyone uses for their settings on their Logitech Z5500 5.1 sound system?

I have it connected with the Optical cable on my X-Fi Sound blaster Z and mainly use "Optical Dolby Pro Logic II Movie" mode?

Is this the best mode for gaming? Is it the only mode for gaming? I just want true 5.1 & not sure what the other settings do? I've kept it on "movie" mode for years, is this correct?

What mode do you guys use?

Google Dolby Pro Logic II and you will see it has nothing to do with true 5.1. It was a technology created in the 90s to create ambient sound out of surround channels from a stereo (2.0) input.

You need to send a Dolby Digital Live signal in order to get 5.1 through optical.

Yea I know It's kinda simulates what it can but I'm running a good sound card with an optical connection does that make any difference? I also noticed that dts auto activates when I play a blu-ray disc for example it actually goes into DTS. But for normal gaming on PC which mode is best for gaming as good a 5.1 I can get with Z5500?

Dolby Digital Pro Logic II is just a software algorithm, it either works or it doesn't.

That's good, it means whatever software you are using is automatically bitstreaming DTS instead of 2-channel PCM.

Doesn't your Sound Blaster Z support Dolby Digital Live encoding? Turn it on.

I still use the analog inputs for gaming.
The optical input is connected to my media machine for movie playback.

Which software is the latest version I can download to check for dolby digital live? Yea I have the ZxR optical out to the Z5500.

Works great for me, no reason to change anything.

Analog is already true 5.1, so I don't have to worry about encoding.
