Apple TV+ has some nice content...the upcoming Foundation series looks amazing if you're a fan of sci-fi...and the 4K Dolby Vision quality is stunning
Yeah with Dolby vision over streaming, the general consensus is that its an overall better HDR experience (assuming you are pulling a higher bitrate). Because the streaming format can do per frame HDR adjustments. Whereas 4K Blu-ray standard is more limited and doesn't feature per frame HDR adjustments.

Dolby Vision is a dynamic metadata standard in and of itself that you will get on UHD Blu-ray and displays that support it. You don't need to stream content to enjoy the benefits of dynamic metadata. I don't know where you got that information that UHD Blu-ray only supports static metadata.

I've been surprised how common Dolby Vision is. If you don't have a TV that supports it, you'd never know because the streaming service doesn't list what your TV doesn't support.

This video is why I said that.

However, its been a while since I watched it and forgot its not dolby vision streaming Vs. dolby vision on a disc. Its HDR10 HDR on a disc Vs. Dolby Vision streaming.

and so the point becomes the streaming version of the same movie, has a different HDR method available, which the disc version does not have. which is better?

He says that HDR10 on disc has one static tone curve which is averaged out over the length of the entire movie. Whereas Dolby Vision over streaming, is adjusted per frame. Allowing more contrast and more accurate contrast and gamma per frame, and better HDR highlights.

You're comparing hdr10 discs to DV.

Yes I understand that. As I said, It had been awhile since I watched the video and skewed the point of it.

The point was that an avengers movie had released on 4K blu -ray with HDR10. and later the streaming version was remastered in Dolby Vision. And people wanted to know if the streaming version was actually better, even despite some compression artifacts.

The general verdict is that the streaming version with Dolby Vision is overall a better experience-----if you aren't also looking for the very best audio formats/max surround channels.

Or you could just use the DV metadata on the 4k blu-ray :)

The UHD Blu-ray release of Endgame doesn't have Dolby Vision, period. None of Disney's Marvel UHD BR releases going forward will, as far as I understand, because they want to push people to Disney+. It's a sleazy tactic and why I am not watching or buying their stuff anymore.

New beta firmware out. Opens up the m.2 slot for game storage. Has to be 5000MB/s or better Gen4 drives.

I really wish they'd fucking give me VRR. I really don't know why it has taken so long. It's bullshit. Class action lawsuit gonna happen quickly if it doesn't happen soon.

Seriously? So entitled.

I know this is a redundant question, but I have no interest really at the moment to buy a PS5 but has anyone here bought a PS5 from Amazon? I have over $200 in Amazon credit and was thinking I was just going to save that to get a PS5 at some point since there are some exclusives I'll want to play on the platform. I know asking when it will be in stock is irrelevant, but is it rare for Amazon to get them?

They get them in like every two week but get instantly bought up by bots.

Class action lawsuit? For what, exactly? They don't even advertise VRR support for the console, as far as I'm aware, and it is not required by the HDMI 2.1 specification.

Why do you need VRR so bad? GL with that lawsuit tho.

I got mine at launch from amazon, had to refresh the page wario64 posted on several different computers for 3 hours, but i got one.

Ridiculous what retailers are doing, and it's 100% intentional. When a new iPhone comes out, you order on apple, and the later your order, the later your iphone shows up. None of this, we'll take 20,000 orders and just shut the button off for three weeks. It's shameful.

I'm slightly annoyed by it as well, but if more games start implementing 40 FPS support for 120Hz TVs like R&C Rift Apart does, I think that is a decent alternative to relying on VRR. VRR is def nice for the 40-60 FPS range, but I'm not sure I'd rather have a game with that much fluctuating performance even with VRR as opposed to being locked to 40 or 60 FPS. I imagine Sony and most other 3rd part devs will only use VRR to compensate for dips below 60 FPS on games locked to that target, or maybe more on games with an unlocked frame rate on 120Hz modes since it will be much harder to lock to 120 Hz in most games where they implement it.

VRR should be system level. Not dictated on a game by game basis.

And if PS5 ever adds it and you have a display capable of it----there isn't any reason to turn it off.

Indeed, but for the most part VRR is only useful on games with an unlocked frame rate (and capped to your monitors max Hz), which I don't see Sony or most other devs implementing still on their games in favor of locking to 30/40/60 FPS and only falling back to VRR in the rare instances it misses its frame time at those targets. That's all I'm saying.

ANDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD LADIES AND GENTLEMEN, AFTER WHAT FEELS LIKE 19+ YEARS OF ****ING WAITING, Sony presents us with the beta software that finally allows the expanion M2 drive to work! And surprise suprise! Gen4 drives are required with read/write speeds over 5,550mb/s and they STILL can not guarantee that the games will run as fast as it would with the internal PS5 m2 drive.

Fucking horse shit, but its a start i suppose.

VRR still provides a smoother experience at 30/40/60 than without it.

What is horse shit about it? Sony been saying this for a while now. There are like 2 or 3 NVMe drives on the consumer market that compete with the speed of the one in the PS5 and they all are stupid expensive atm.

Yeah. Fairly certain that at first we were told that we would have to move games in/out of internal storage. Or was that the Xbox? Can't remember now

Yep, only ~$960 for 4TB and like ~$430 for a 2TB. I swear I just heard my wallet scream from the snap sound of Sony's latex gloves being put on.

The fastest Gen4 NVMe SSDs available that also meet Sony's speed requirement are in the $200-250 range for 1TB right now. $430 for 2TB seems in line with that scale of pricing.

This I don't understand the need to have everything at their fingers tips all the time. It doesn't take long to copy over from a external drive.

Yeah, I'll just keep using my 4TB external until I can get a compatible 2TB SSD for under $200 and I have enough PS5 games to justify it. I have over 100 games installed on my 4TB external drive and most PS4 games don't even load much faster on a SSD anyways (FF7 Remake is somehow a bit slower I think). I don't mind making a drink while I wait for a PS5 game to transfer back over to the SSD the few times that'll ever happen until then either.

I noticed huge loading time difference when PS4 games are loaded on to the PS5 SSD.

It seems highly game specific then. FF7, TLOU2, and a couple other games I've played didn't seem much, if any faster on the SSD.

The SSD helps a lot/fixes FF7's issue with loading numerous textures very late. If you then download the free PS5 version, its completely fixed.

What part of this is horse poop? We knew it was only ever going to work with fast Gen 4 drives.
