It's easy to find Denso parts for Toyota's without needing to go to the dealer. I never go to the dealer for parts because the price is always to damn high.

Dealer prices are high but they also dont have to compete, best prices for OEM parts are usually online these days. However aftermarket parts come with a different cost more often then not. They almost never quite fit right as they are just a close copy or designed to fit multiple models. In fact I dont think I have ever seen a aftermarket radiator that actually fit properly in any model, without a little extra work on your part. OEM parts just fit which is nice, however just because it's OEM does not make it a great part. Often there are design issues that the OEM will not spend money on making better that sometimes a aftermarket company will spend the time on.

Absolutely as I find myself cursing off in Chinese for every part I buy that doesn't fit perfectly, and I don't even know Chinese. To give a few examples of my experience with stealerships I have a 2007 IS250 that had an airbag light. I took it to the dealer for a recall for the airbag thinking this would solve the problem, but no. The airbag light was for a bad connection and the dealer wanted something like $800 to replace the entire wire harness. They couldn't replace the recalled airbag until that problem was solved. A quick run to clublexus.com I was told to take apart the lower portion of the drivers side airbag and disconnect it and reconnect and that should be enough to clean the connector and get it working. I did that and put dielectric grease to prevent any more corrosion and the airbag light was gone. Took it to the dealer and they replaced the recalled airbag. It literally cost me nothing to fix the issue and who knows if the dealer would have performed the same fix. They said they would replace the entire wire but I doubt they would.

I've had multiple bad experiences taking my cars to repair shops and dealers only to get screwed for either no work or shit work. I now fix my own cars and avoid mechanics all together. I'm a computer guy and I need to wrench to make sure my car doesn't kill me driving or financially paying for the repairs. Most mechanics are just oil change and brake job guys and nothing more. Rarely you'll find a mechanic who actually knows what he's doing as they're rare. Like 1 out of every 35 mechanics actually know how to wrench. Dealer or no dealer it doesn't matter, most mechanics are shit. I got stories of my Corvette as well and how a dealership forgot to plug in a wire and wanted to charge me thousands to fix it. If you own a car and not paying it off or leasing it then get tools and learn to wrench because paying someone to fix your car can get expensive.

Saw a john deere tech on site troubleshooting a cold start issue. Was a computer problem. He spent an hour, said it was one thing, was going to have me buy the part and replace it myself for X$$$, was busy doing other things, spent another hour "checking other things" then he found the loose wire, cleaned it and plugged it back in. All better.
Its a combination of lazy people, and super ridiculously complex things that have no business being complicated.

LOL, you bought a 3rd party radiator and had to do extra work to make it fit right?

....

Must be a common theme. Exactly what happened to me. Took a lot of extra work trying to shove something that was barely just a tad too big for where it was supposed to go.

This is the reason I don't ever buy BMW's. A friend of mine bought a 2007 BMW 650i and I told him don't, you'll be fixing it within a week. I did a quick Google search and it seems the valve seals go bad and cause these engines to burn oil. Sure enough a few months later that's exactly what started to happen to his BMW. If he goes to the dealer they want more than the car is worth to change the seals. Local mechanics want less but it's still way too much compared to the cars value. He tried stupid crap like reconditioner that might bring life back to the seals but not happening. Driving the car is a chocking hazard because it burns that much oil. I told him that maybe later this year we'll try and tackle the problem together. I've rebuilt the heads of my uncles Tahoe and changed the valve seals because why not. I did it because the DOD lifters failed and practice for my Corvette. I'm going to do some serious stuff to my Vette later this summer. The BMW is far more difficult because of the timing chain and it literally has twice as many valves. Also the tools cost a fortune unlike the $20 tool I bought for LS based engines. Complex cars suck and if the car is rare then it sucks more because the parts are harder to find and cost more.

More like diarrhea machines. I bought my first milkshake from McD in nearly a decade a few years ago and regretted it that same night. It wasn't my choice to go there, but when in Rome... I guess I lost my tolerance for that garbage.

Those and the ice cream product test the worst for E. coli, I guess. The goop is a perfect medium. Never get one of those if you aren't sure if the machine is being used frequently.

Yes and I hope this is one of those times. How this will actually impact corporate practices remains to be seen. I don't want to be skeptical, but I am 80% dubious at this point that this will end up w/the results we would assume from the announcements. Love Louis Rossmann!

Sadly I feel the same way...... nothing is ever good for the little guy and I bet this is worded in a way or bundled into something else that makes things worse.

Yup...and then they'll use faux-law to silence people like Rossmann. The elites will say, "You got what you wanted, now shut yo mouth." As you say...this might only make things worse. Reality? Rossmann and the movement might have gained nothing but sand and lies. Just more gamesmanship and manipulation. I'll stay open minded, but I'm very jaded at this point.

I wish folks would stop revering Rossmann like he's a saint facing possible martyrdom. He's a guy who runs an indie repair shop and has a few useful ideas on right to repair. He's not uniquely enlightened, and he has a vested interest in driving more customers to his business.

Of course Rossmann has a vested interest. Duh! His videos are good marketing. While marketing he has become an agent for a common-sense proposition that 99% of Americans can agree upon, but won't fight for. Without his voice we would be the worse. Similarly his videos on New York blight are drawing needed attention to the death of some of our big cities and the utter lack of sensible political leadership.

Also, he has been to multiple states to testify for right to repair. What have you done?

We might be worse off, but when you talk about companies trying to "silence" Rossmann... well, no. There's a real chance they couldn't care less about whether or not Rossmann is making YouTube videos. They're more concerned about legislatures passing RTR legislation, and Rossmann may only have played a small part in that.
