What are you nerds playing this weekend?

Rage 2 was amazing for me. The original one was good, but the open world segments weren't really that deep.

It is by a different dev (Avalanche, that did Mad Max, also an amazing game). The action is really tight and worthwhile, lots of cool guns and abilities.

Definitely one of my favorite games, as long as you like just driving around and shooting goons. They story is pretty thin, it is there, but not really a focus.

Mad Max had a better story, and the games are similar (post apocalyptic deserts) but Rage 2 just has the more satisfying action.

Jumping into DCS with both landing gear! they are having their summer sale, but if you are new (which I am) your first purchase is 50% off MSRP on anything you buy - F18, F16 and Persian Gulf map. It BARELY runs on the system below, but Dell is working on that. VR here I come! Eventually, that is.

I'm still chewing through Dishonored 2. Not sure why it hasn't clicked the way the first game (or Prey) has.

I think I have this mission and just one more to go before wrapping up the game. It seems like they designed it for multiple run throughs and I don't foresee that happening.

Once I get the 3080 Ti up and running - Metro: Exodus in RT glory.

About a month ago, I streamed the entirety of Portal 1. And Last night, finished up Portal 2----which took me 4 streaming sessions to finish. I had never gotten around to Portal 2, even though I loved Poral 1 and thought it was game of the year/instant classic.

Portal 2 is the much better game. The length, the production quality. But Portal 1 is a classic.

Kind of like Mirror's Edge. The first one is classic and I've played it like 10 times. But the second one is just a better more fleshed-out game.

Fired up Far Cry 3 and got a few hours in. If Ubisoft's client would stop crashing the game it be more enjoyable.

I've still been on a shoot-em-up kick, so plenty of classics, some new ones on the PC, etc. I also just built a new MAME appliance on a Pi 4, and have been giving it a bit of a workout, so plenty of arcade games as well.

I'm actually starting to get in the mood for a good, proper, PC game. Unfortunately I'm still waiting for proper GPU pricing, or at least sightly-more-proper GPU pricing.

I don't think Portal 2 is strictly better.
Its certainly longer, has more characters, and the script manages to stay pretty punchy, even with more characters.

But I did think the pacing fell off for a non-trivial effect. The third quarter of the game drags, As it moves away from 'testing' (puzzles) and instead you are just kind of doing basic portal traversal around a large environment with little to do---for quite a while. When it finally got back to more testing puzzles, I was like "finally, thank goodness". But then you only do a handful of pretty interesting puzzles, before the game ends. And the final boss fight was VERY similar to Portal 1.

In that sense, I think Portal 1 is more effective. It manages an equally compelling setting, narrative, and puzzling---all tight as it gets and doable in one sitting.

For me, I think the biggest feature of Portal 2, is the amazing presentation of the facility crumbling all over the place, as the robot characters move large sections around, to re-configure testing rooms and setup puzzles. Even today, the game looks quite good. Especially in those moments.

Sweet I thought most of reviews were saying rage wasn't any good. But I will give it a try I really like the mad max style worlds

So Dishonored 2 wasn't that great? I was going to play it on game pass but haven't yet

Finished up Persona 5 Strikers earlier this week, so I'm onto New Pokemon Snap interspersed with Loop Hero (new update!) and Monster Train.

I wrapped it up and overall felt meh about it.

the gap between games is long enough I can tell you that I loved the original Dishonored and did two or three play throughs. This one just did not click or resonate in the same manner. I also did not find the scenarios themselves to reach the same heights that the first did. The ball infiltration; hunting Daud, etc. The writing for 2 was also a low point, for me. The plot threads on the whole are not woven particularly adroitly, some of the dialogue is plain cringe, and the ending sequence was just nonsense for the low chaos “good” ending.

The game is certainly competent enough as a stealth power fantasy game. There are no major bugs, it’s not as finicky/fickle as the first with a no kills run because they changed the rules around that.

I, on the other hand, thought it was a superb game. There was definitely as much, if not more, optionality in play-thru, and although the plot isn't as strong as the first it was still very good. I don't really recall too much clumsy dialogue, just the broad strokes, and the atmosphere was a great continuation of the original (and its obvious inspiration, the Thief series.)

The standalone expansion, Death of the Outsider, was great as well, even better than the main game in some respects.

Sunday night sure came fast….I’m desperately clinging onto the weekend with Ghost of Tsushima and Spider-Man Miles Morales.

Porter_ , how's spiderman? Taco only watched first one with Peter parker nd that girl whatever her name was. Haven't played any games. What do you think of the game?
I haven’t played it enough to make a judgement. It’s a ‘Batman Arkham etc.’ fighting style of game which isn’t really my thing, but so far it’s fairly fun and I’m liking the graphics.

Gonna try to finish my second play of Cyberpunk 2077. 176 hours in, but I lost interest at some point.

Might as well just finish it so I can get the secret ending, already 100% the achievements.

I wrapped Ghostrunner and am moving to Doom Eternal and Gears Tactics. I will probably end up sucked into Doom even if I feel a little weird about the low ammo counts at first blush.

Guilty Gear Strive, unfortunately at the moment I'm having a character crisis in the game, which is what happened when I played Xrd as well. Started on Ram, but even though she is great I'm kinda just not feeling it with her. Gonna give Nagoriyuki a go, but honestly I've been liking how Ky plays even if he is super vanilla.

Also maybe going to stream The Binding of Isaac this week/weekend, and try to finish Xenogears finally.

New patch and wipe on Takrov. Got into it late in the last wipe so will be interesting playing at the beginning of a wipe this time.

Chimera Squad played for about 5 hours today
Noticed that Turn based or table top games lower my BP compared to 3rd person or 1st person running around games.

I do love the movement and kills. That's all I wanted to do in the game lol I'll keep playing and see I means it's on game pass not like I paid to buy it lol

Has anyone played the bounty huntress its a metroid Vania that just came out and is only 3.99 lol

I've never played a JRPG before but I saw Octopath Traveler is on sale so I downloaded the demo on Switch to give it a go, I'm really enjoying it. I'm kind of bummed that it isn't on sale on the Switch as it seems like the perfect game to kick back on the couch and enjoy.

I loved some aspects of that game but the story (and the way the characters basically don't interact) really crippled it in the long run.

Fourth playthrough of Far Cry: New Dawn. Prosperity fully upgraded and working getting the companions fully spec'd.

Took a break and installed Far Cry 2. Worked after the 60hz fix. Got in a few hours of play before moving on to fixing my Fallout 4 install. Sometimes a modder just can't get enough. :D

Doing more Halo -- I had only played CE when the MCC first came out, so I'm doing Halo 2 right now. The visual uplift on Halo 2 is amazing :O and it's fun to hit tab and alternate between the original look and the new look. Kind of excited to get through with it though and do Halo 3 since Halo 2 was the last game in the series that I played!
