Thought it might be a good idea to start a thread on this since it differs quite a bit from the TV's. Ordered to replace my CX.

Just became available on Amazon US:

Ships in 1 to 2 months. It's also currently $100 more expensive than the C1. Going to need to see some impressions if the supposed gaming focus on this makes it better than the C1, or if too many compromises were made.

Yeah it will probably launch @ $1400 on Newegg next week as part of their ongoing discount/promotion on release like the FV43U and FI32U which then matches a C1 in price but is still $150 more than a CX. I say this because the FO48U is part of the Outriders promotion spanning until July 15th.

I don't expect any difference but I'll gladly pay the small premium for sRGB mode and Displayport along with a baked in firmware driven screen saver (just in case).

Really the only reason to buy this is if you already don't have a CX/C1 or just want the convenience/feature set of a monitor vs TV. I know it sounds trivial but I'm super over turning my CX on and off as necessary + all the TV garbage.

The PC-specific features are well worth $100 over the C1 assuming they didn't fuck anything up. The PBP and KVM modes alone are worth more than 100 dollars to me on a monitor that size.

I definitely see some value in a proper PC monitor implementation. Because running a TV as a monitor, despite the workarounds to mitigate the annoyances, the damn thing still has a mind of its own (CX 48). That said, when I discovered the combination of "Turn off display" set to 60 minutes + black screensaver set to 1 minute, that was a game changer that makes an OLED TV as monitor 99% more tolerable, versus the nuisance of constantly manually turning the monitor on and off if you're stepping away from the PC a lot.

In any case it's good that more OLED options are emerging.

Gotta love the black equalizer. People throwing away one of the best things about OLED so they can think they're a pro in Rainbow Six Siege.

But yeah, this is a really good package. Any word on if it supports strobing or black frame insertion?

Just to confirm, this is indeed using the LG CX/C1 panel, correct?
I assume yes, as who else is even making that panel...

According to the manual yes plain BFI is available. It's called "aim stabilizer" where as the BFI+VRR is called "aim stabilizer sync" which this monitor is missing compared to the FV43U and FI32U.

Yeah it's the only 48" OLED panel in production.

Very cool! So do we know if this "aim stabilizer" works at arbitrary refresh rates, and if so, what the range might be?

It only works above 100hz.
Damnit that suuuuuccccks.

I was so ready to replace my CRT's with this thing. So close.

Gotta be 60 and above for me.

EDIT: But wait, are you basing those figures on past Aorus monitors? Or were you able to find the range for this particular one?

Yeah it's the only 48" OLED panel in production.

I wish this had simultaneous BFI+VRR. That's a feature that would make me consider getting this over an LGC1.

Dang that built in KVM is nice, as I have my windows desktop, macbook, and linux test system all plugging into my one monitor.
I use the synergy application to use one mouse/keyboard across all three, it would just be nice to have a hardware solution instead.

Gigabyte updated it's spec sheet over the weekend with a surprising addition showing peak brightness matching the G1 "Evo" panels. Also they just added the OSD sidekick software to the download sections so chances are it will be available on newegg this week. Good news for the 3 of us interested in this monitor.

If I didn't have my CX 48" already I would definitely be looking at this. It's got a bit of a dream feature set for me as I miss having a PbP mode and the convenience of automatic on/off. I expect that this one also doesn't have the automatic static brightness limiter the LG OLED TVs have which I had to disable from the service menu.

If LG releases that rumored 42" panel I really hope Gigabyte replaces the FV43 with a FO42 with a similar feature set.

Well I had been holding out on grabbing one of the 48" LG panels, myself, and it looks like that may about to pay off. If it really does support the brightness levels of the G1 and is the same price as the 48 C1 this is going to be an instant buy for me.

Well there are 2 ways Gigabyte have gone about this. The first being its actually using a G1 panel (unlikely) and the 2nd being they are just driving the CX/C1 panel harder with less regard for longevity compared to LG. This kind of makes sense because the deep compensation cycle occurs at 1500 hours vs 2000 for the TV's.

If I get this monitor I'm not going to be using it during the day very much, so I'll be able to turn the brightness down anyway.

I sent them an email requesting support for strobing/BFI all the way down to 60hz. Hopefully others have, but I'm probably the only one.

If you want BFI at 60hz frequency just buy a CX/C1. All of Gigabytes monitors have a single BFI mode. A dozen people emailing them isn't going to change that IMO.

I need it at arbitrary refresh rates between 60 and 100 as well.

And I haven't been able to find input lag figures for BFI for the C1 series. I remember on the CX it was a bit higher than standard mode. I imagine it's a negligible or non-existent increase on the monitor version.

Ghetto review:

Has some bizarre measurements and what may be a deal breaker with the 4 hour compensation cycle message/shut down being forced and sometimes occuring after only 1 hour. Hopefully something a update can fix or a early sample bug because if it asks me to shut it off for a compensation cycle mid movie/game I'd end up punching a hole through the display.

Never heard of them, but by the quality of that review I'm not going to be revisiting. The screen protection thing is concerning, though. Why would they need it if people have been using the LG TV as a PC monitor for years without any issues? Wish the author went into more detail with that, like following up with Gigabyte.

Only thing mentioned in the current version of the manual is this. No mention of the display warning you that it will turn off. What the manual is describing is what all LG OLED TVs do.

And according to the warning underneath, the monitor only does this after leaving the display on for more than 36 hours. Meaning the reviewer never turned the display off and is leaving that detail out. Definitely avoiding that site in the future.

People who use LG OLEDs as monitors account for like 0.5% of sales if even that and LG's 1 year warranty doesn't inspire confidence.

It looks like the Gigabyte gets a bit brighter and it has a 3 year warranty so the aggressiveness of the compensation cycle may reflect what a manufacturers expectations are for a OLED PC monitor (desktop all day, etc).

Updated my post with info found. The warning message only pops up when the display is left on for more than 36 hours. The reviewer is bad and they should feel bad.

Yar, if not for the unboxing pictures of the actual unit, I'd assume pokde was just basing their review off of released specs (which I see a lot from questionable Youtubers).

Still, at least we're getting closer. And if I have the currency they used correct, their currency equated to $1900 CAD territory which puts it right against the LG CX (in Canada anyway).

Yeah I know it states that in the manual but the reviewer is explicitely saying that it would pop up at random sometimes after only an hour of use and prompt while it's in use, not upon shut down.

If it functions the same way as the LG OLED where you turn it off and 10 minutes later you hear the relay click (compensation cycle complete) then no problem.

EDIT: Hopefully it's a firmware bug.

The warning says it will pop up after every hour if ignored the first time. This is why the reviewer needs to give more info and where a follow up with Gigabyte would have helped.

Interesting bit from the manual: "Optimal viewing distances for monitors range from approximately 152cm to 244 cm (5 feet to 8 feet)." That's a pretty long viewing distance. I feel that at 125% scaling about 100-110cm feels right.

Seems like automatic static brightness limiter is in there too:

"ASC (AORUS Static Control) If the monitor has not been in use for a period of time, the ASC starts to reduce the brightness of the screen gradually or activate the screen saver. The screen brightness will be restored immediately after an interaction has been detected by the system.
• After 5 minutes of inactivity, the screen brightness will be reduced by 30%.
• After 10 minutes of inactivity, the screen brightness will be reduced by 50%.
• After 15 minutes of inactivity, the screen saver is activated automatically. You will see the word “AORUS” appearing randomly on the dark screen."

Basically so much of this is clearly rebranded LG software. I just hope that the ASBL (aka ASC) works better than it does on the LG where just reading an article will cause it to start dimming the screen. I found it very annoying.

Lol just turn ASBL off. The cost of the service remote is dirt cheap and it's one of the first things any LG OLED owner who wants to use their TV as a monitor should do.

Heads up to those anxious to purchase. Gigabyte social media mentioned it will hit Newegg in North America late next week. Amazon's late July ETA was accurate it seems.

A firmware update is now available for download as is a final version of the desktop software so we're close.

I was emailing with the support about extending the strobing range down to 60hz and shared this Blur Busters post with them: https://forums.blurbusters.com/viewtopic.php?t=7694.

They said they'll share with the "team". Could be bullshitting me, or they might actually share it with to the team. We'll see.
I can't believe you actually got a timely response. Gigabyte support has notoriously been pretty poor. Here's hoping the "team" exists.

Wasn't talking about this model. He was complaining about ASBL on his LG TV so I said to just turn it off on his LG TV.
I've done it already. It really should not be a service menu item and if it cannot be turned off on this one then it's a major annoyance.

Hello there is also this one coming: https://www.tftcentral.co.uk/blog/s...d-display-with-4k-120hz-and-dolby-vision-hdr/

Honestly i have already CX/C1 as monitors and i love to use BFI, so i guess FO48U wont be for me, and also knowing gigabyte/aorus i'm afraid about their software/firmware support. LG is really good at updating firmwares and Gigabyte just knows nothing about OLED and stuff. I don't really care about dp 1.4 as hdmi 2.1 is superior to it (doesnt have DSC at 4K so less picture compression etc). sRGB is also emulated on LG oled TV so its not a big deal.

I will wait for tftreview, rtings and hdtv test reviews i guess but there is like 0 hype about this FO48U. Also after reading this review and tw ones i'm not very impressed

The thing is a monitor shouldn't need firmware support. 95% of LG's updates are to address smartTV features/platform with the occasional bug being fixed that they introduced in a prior update. If Gigabyte puts out a update to fix a real issue great, but otherwise it really shouldn't matter.

0 hype is expected. It's a CX/C1 with DP that partially uses LG's firmware based on the near identical compensation cycles.

Everywhere I look I feel like there are 2 types of reactions to this display. Non OLED owners interested as an alternative to the C1 for their PC and existing OLED owners who seem to want to justify their purchase and completely ignoring it's PC-centric feature set.
