non K cpu gets hot fast, so all-core turbo caps out at 3.3- 3.4ghz on the 11700.

HP really gimps this shit.
Considering that the comet lake 10700 has 4.6ghz all core turbo, this 3.3ghz all core turbo is leaving lots of performance on the table.

I can't find any data on the all-core turbo specs of the 11700.


If I use throttlestop and bypass the power limit and set it at 115w, I can get all core turbo to hold at 4ghz as temps touch 94C, with cpu fan speed maxed out.
any higher and the system thermal shuts off.

This thing needs a turbine fan to sustain any higher speed.


prebuilt towers suck.
 
Yikes, even some laptops can sustain 4Ghz AC on 8C Intel 14nm- What sort of halfass heatsink did HP ship with that thing :eek: Does Throttlestop let u undervolt on Rocket Lake yet?

I am not sure what you expect from a cheap OEM "office computer".
It works - so everything is ok.
 
The Dell inspiron 3880 with an i7 10700 has lack luster cooling as well. Does the HP use the cpu fan with a weird duct configuration instead of a rear case fan?
 
2.5 base UP TO 4.6. its tryin, but hp is limiting it to keep thermals in check because its a sff

Is this a personal use machine or an office machine? If it bothers you, can you just swap out the cooler, use throttlestop and maximize what you have?

Edit: I don't blame HP as much as I blame Intel for pushing a shitty product that draws too much power and runs hot for OEMs. HP is probably reusing their 10th gen parts including cooling for 11th gen.

mobos vrm prob cant handle max boost so bios is hobbled. it still technically in the range intel specifies. i dont know how accurate of a impression youre gonna get with low cost oems though...

Yeah, that's what I figured on the power limit. FWIW, my 5600x runs a lot better when hard limited to 65W. I haven't tried RKL, but my 65W CML 10700 wasn't actually as bad as I thought it might be. I don't remember it being that bad though.

4ghz is the best these 2 fans can do...

This should tell you most of what you are wondering: clock for clock, the 11 series is a healthy upgrade over the 10 series.

11700 in a proper system, with turbo limits maxed and power limit set to about 160w, will hold 4.4ghz all core, forever. I had both 10700 and 11700 for a bit.

11700 at 4.4ghz beat my 10700 at 4.6ghz by 2000 points, in Cinibench R23. Same H570 mobo, same Crucial ram.

The 1 - 2 thread turbo on the 11700 is actually 100mhz faster than the 10700.

it's also the same HP chassis, and I wonder if the ryzen will be gimped as well.

gonna put my amp clamp and test out power consumption to see how much more power the 11700 uses.


I think I'll be leaning toward the ryzen eventually when I build my own.

Since intel has 4k60 AV1 decode support, I was leaning toward Intel and Alder Lake,
but seeing how AV1 won't be mainstream anytime soon, and h264 vp9 support will probably continue in 4k streaming for the next 10 years, i might just settle for AMD with its stronger iGPU

11 series is Rocket Lake ;)

Alder Lake will hopefully be a different story for process node, power usage, heat, etc. And a smaller node should mean more die space for a bigger iGPU.

i believe it is confirmed that alder lake igpu will be the same as rocket lake's, maxed out at 32eu

Huh. You'd think with Intel's push for gaming, they would put out something competitive with a 5700G, etc.

Maybe because intel knows that AMD’s RDNA2 apu integration is coming soon so why bother trying to compete and have AMD wipe the floor with their offering
