Oh Snap, Won Newegg Shuffle....To Buy or not to buy

Did you get in on the evga queue? Depending on the time would be the deciding factor for me. $1800 is a ton IMO.

Nope, couldn't get in on the EVGA queue.
tough one man. The 970 is old enough to really see a huge difference in gaming experience, but still. If all the cards out there were available, which would you be trying to buy? Are you upgrading your selection just because lower cards are unavailable?

Its $1950 with tax, hot damn that a ton of $$$.

I am probably going to let it go, no way I can justify that and I don't even think it would be worth attempting to resell. Although being the scalper for once rather than the scalpee sounds interesting :).

I didn’t even mark the MSI or zotac because the prices were way too high. But do know that if you pass on it your chance of winning the next shuffle could be much lower, if Newegg keeps track of that stuff in its “random” selection

For 2k I can totally live with them lowering my chance of another shuffle 😄

I won a 6800 like when they first started and passed on it. now I can't win shit. haha

Practical advice? Get it, flip it for 2.5k and put the difference towards a card you want. As shitty as the deal is, any private party deal is gonna be worse unless the seller is dumb and likes to lose money.

If he uses Ebay he will only walk away with $200-$300 profit.
Maybe an option on another marketplace with lower fees.

The risk to reward percentage is real, but personally I'd pass. It's not like a reference 6800, 6800xt, rtx 3080, etc. At almost 2k, that's alot of overlay. Unless you have a buyer before selling, I'd just have a hard time justifying it.

Buy it and mine on it until it gives out.
Terrible card for mining. Don’t even know if it will break even on the Msi scalped price difference compared to evga/fe msrp. $600 would take at least 3 months to recoup at 57 mh.

iirc its supposed to get about 66 mh/s but still at 240w its pretty horrendous, would be better to mine cfx or erg at that point
that said, how long til nvidia makes another oopsie with the drivers

Well, besides the one rtx 3060 driver, have we seen another one yet? Which mind you, has it's own limitations.

We haven't seen any other LHR cards yet, so of course not.
Just notating that its not a if, but a when, it will be cracked.

Considering that they haven't even cracked 3060's. Which has been out for 3 months, it could be short, or awhile.

the LHR are firmware based so enough ppl get these there will be bios available soonish. this bigger issue is LHR cards not working with certain monitors that will be a push back as there iwill be alot of people unable to use these if the problem grows. like with der8aurers vid.

Well that didn't take long, snatched back out from the cart. Have your scalper card Demonegg.

That card is overpriced even at the $1200 MSRP, so there’s no way I would spend $1800 on it.

Is this a joke?
Who in their right mind buys a card with a suggested retail price of $1200 for that bargain price of $1800.
To think people sign up and actually wait for this shi*.
Shuffle?....really? More like shake...as in turn your as* upside down and shake the money out of your pockets.
That is 'some' deal....if you are stupid and like throwing money away.
I wouldn't pay $900 for an RTX3080 anything....that goes for AMD' 6800 series as well.
I'm an equal opportunity opponent to stupid sales.

6 years ago you could buy THREE 980ti's for that price. I don't like the "new normal."

Not all the 3080Ti cards in the shuffle were this expensive. The TUF was $1199 for example.

To me I really don't believe this is a supply issue anymore. I think there's allot of credit out there and people / groups of people are buying up allot of stock. The very same thing is happening in housing.

The best thing for people to do is to not buy. These prices are insane.

I saw 58 MH at 299w but I guess results may vary. Maybe they didn’t tweak the voltages and frequency.

It doesn't even feel like a PC component market any longer. Speaking as a musician in the prosumer music gear market, GPUs are now selling for prices comparable to all but my most expensive gear. The 3080ti is almost as expensive as my Helix Floor multi-effects processor, which is just insane . . . and that's at MSRP. At the prices you can actually expect to pay, they're more expensive than my fucking guitars.

I'll take that bet. Encrypted vBIOS still hasn't been cracked, going on years now.
Clunky workarounds that give less than 100% of non-LHR hashrate, perhaps, but wouldn't hold breath for another dev driver mistake.

And in any case the daggerhash window on this current cycle is closing, LHR won't even matter before too long.

It's not a matter of belief. It's a matter of supply and demand. Scalpers cannot create demand. I can't go buy some concert tickets and then list them for $4500 and have somehow created demand in the process. That's not how anything works.

I'm not sure I follow this. Can you explain. THX.

They most definitely can create demand. Any group of people with enough disposable income can.

But what if I bought all the first and second row tickets to the concert? I think that's what the poster you quoted is referring to. Think of the Playstation 5 a while back, a single group in the UK bought massive amounts of PS5's for the purpose of creating a shortage therefore causing higher demand.

Scalpers can absolutely create demand but it would have to be a coordinated and massive effort.

Regarding the GPU, it could be argued that there isn't a chip shortage per se. It is more so that demand has strongly outpaced supply. The problem lies in that chip makers are mostly in China, which is why the Federal Government is investing in US based chip makers

Those chip makers are located in Taiwan and S. Korea, not mainland China. Plants in both of these locations are at risk due to the militaristic policies of the CCP. That is why the Federal Government wants to invest in US-based foundries.

Ditto they rival most mixer boards I have. There's just way too much credit in the banking system and quite a few markets are being upset.
